Do we need to sign a striker?

How about Vini J and play Cunha upfront?

He is not fitting with Mbappe and had a substandard season. Plus a chance away from all that racism.

Thats 25 extra goals a season.

We have something called wage structure

We can not go into the next season with Zirkzee as our second ST option. We need to spend on other areas so a free agent an experiened one would be an option. Vlahovič or even Icardi?

We’re not signing another striker now. If Rashford stays, he can play there, as can Cunha and Mbuemo. Zirkzee might stay too so I’d be surprised if we got someone else in before either of Rashford or Zirkzee leave.

The Zirk isn’t our second choice striker as of now. He’s probably about fourth.

Yep, should be a priority position after centre mids and a full back.

Either a very good back-up to Sesko or a worldie if one comes available and Sesko can be rotated and learn off them.

Still think Sesko will have patches of inconsistency this season and the increased workload won’t help.

Zirkzee is up there with the worst players I’ve seen for us

No reliable source on this but he'd be good solution for ST. PL proven, 29 years old (so older option next to younger one in Šeško), small fee. Don't know what others think but he's solid PL striker.

If he failed a previous medical, im not sure he will pass our one (considering what happened with Ederson)

Mateta is a bit of a no brainer actually. We could easily sell zirkzee (who adds no value) and bring him on board.

What do people think of a cheeky bid for delap.

None of them are #9s, though. I think we'd be pretty silly not to have a backup / rotation option for Sesko (aside from Zirkzee, who has proven that he is not good enough to play at this level in the Premier League and needs to be moved on this summer).

This would be pretty smart business.

Why? Can’t be for footballing reasons.

I'd take Mateta for 25m.

I do like Chupete too. He has an 7m release IIRC (unless his new deal he signed last the end of the season upped it, IDK) and is a real #9. He blew the doors off in Segunda Liga and I think there's a proper player in there. Like I think before the season is out he'll be at a top club. If not this summer.

For that price it's like even if he blows so what.

The fact that he already had a transfer to Milan fall through because he failed the medical is as obvious a red flag as you can get.

And as far as I'm aware he didn't subsequently have the surgery he was reported to be considering to try and correct the issue? As far as I'm aware they kept trying to manage it without surgery and keep him playing, as they have been for a while.

If theres zero concerns of his fitness, 25m for Mateta would be a wise move.

Didn’t Milan pull out of signing Mateta in the last couple of weeks because of his knee ? After we pulled out of signing Ederson for the exact same thing I wouldn’t believe that report at all mate

Matetas knee is fecked, otherwise he would be perfect as a 2nd striker.
In any case, we need a striker.
Cunha, Sesko etc. still seem to be a level where they can only provide one digit goal figures.

No. It’d have been great a year or two ago, but he’s coming 36. He’ll drop off a cliff pretty soon.

He was more productive than Mateta (who is six years younger) last year. He could easily do a job for a year or two and take a bit of pressure off Sesko. Would be an ideal buy that makes too much sense - especially given he would be far cheaper than most other options.

Eh? Cunha has now had three seasons of 12, 15, 10 goals respectively.

Welbeck on a free would have been very useful, but we missed the boat on that when he signed the one year extension on his Brighton contract.
I felt we missed an opportunity to get him back in 2024, as he’s proved to be a very effective forward late in his career, both off and on the ball.
He would have been very useful asset coming off the bench, but given the opportunity to come back home, he probably would have preferred to stay on the south coast to get regular starts.

Sesko also hit double figures despite limited minutes. In the PL Sesko had the 2nd best non-penalty goals per 90, after Haaland.

In your mid 30s, there’s nothing easy. Yesterday isn’t necessarily a fantastic indicator of tomorrow. Compare Salah’s last two seasons. Brighton might, MIGHT, get one more fairly productive season out of him. Beyond that? Doubtful.

On a free, maybe. But I think in terms of paying a fee, that ship sailed a couple of years ago.
