Do we need to sign a striker?

Only if Rashford doesn't get sold. Assuming Rashford gets reintegrated (likely), Zirkzee leaves (very likely), and Lewis-Hall gets bought (also somewhat likely), the squad will be:

------------------------------Lammens
--------------------------------Darlow

Dalot------------Maguire--------Martinez-------Lewis-Hall
Mazraoui--------Yoro-------------Heaven-----------Shaw

--------------------Santos------------Mount
-------------------Mainoo----------Tielemans

Mbuemo-----------------Bruno---------------------Cunha
Amad----------------------Lacey---------------------Dorgu

-------------------------------Sesko
-----------------------------Rashford

Plus De Ligt hopefully eventually probably at some point. I suppose Ugarte as well, technically speaking.

At this point, I'd be more worried about right-back than about striker or midfield.
I would say from this the Midfield is the biggest need.

Unfortunately for us that talk just showed the naivety and cluelessness of Ineos about the job needed at United, they are the epitome of all the gear but no idea and they show it every time they talk about anything related to United publicly.

No one will ever convince me that Berrada and Wilcox in charge of the footballing department is/was a better long term idea than Ashworth was, Ashworth specialises in overseeing a footballing department and putting the pieces in place and he’d at least have put someone experienced in place to move players on.
They unfortunately told the owners what they want to hear - we can win the league by 2028. Ashworth was very boring and unambitious, but it seems like we're going that route anyway and consolidating top 4 this year.

We don't necessarily need an expensive striker but we could do with a bit of depth - which is why Welbeck would've been the ideal fit (unsurprisingly Xabi Alonso agrees).

Overall, the problem isn't scroring as much as conceding, but even that improved dramatically when Carrick took over.

It's probably the most press resistant set of midfield options in the entire Premier League. In terms of passing and ball retention, I don't think there's anyone better.

There may be a bit of a weakness in terms of physicality. But in Mount and Santos you have two of the best pressers you'll find anywhere. Mainoo has also improved his tackling massively in the last season or so.

I'm more than happy with the midfield quartet. We don't need a 'bodyguard' in the pivot itself. We can achieve something similar by having a CB that pushes up or a full-back that inverts. Imho RB is the weakest position in the starting XI when everyone's fit.

None of them have good recovery speed, none of them good at shielding the defense, you might say we don't need that but every top team does.

yes get Watkins, PL proven, understanding with Tielemans, bargain at 40m to 50m, born in Torquay (okay thats not relevant!) current England squad player

There's something putting people off him, however I just can't my finger on what that exactly is
Wages maybe. Don't think there have been any attitude issues in his career. Can't ever understand why he's still available on a free

Yeah apparently the wage demands are an issue
Apparently he only wants Barca. Would fit in well with Rashford so.

10 million signing on fee and 200k a week is the rumour

Earned like 27 million euro his last year at Juventus.

«Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus and Serbia has denied the alleged sex scandal in the Serbian national team with a reported chain of infidelity involving several players with teammates' partners.»

Seems to demand high wages and stirs up some drama. Not what you’d want for a backup striker.

Jeez that's definitely not someone we want then

Would you give that to him?
Me personally?

If i was in charge, i would rather a larger signing on bonus, to keep the wage structure in tact.

Hes a 70 million asset potentially. So 15 million sign on and 175 would be my suggestion.

Then again, I'm a bartender.

Again though that shows the complete naivety and cluelessness of Ineos as they bought into what Berrada told them when it was clear we were years off and also the fact that Berrada had zero experience in the role he’s in with us and zero experience running a footballing department whereas Ashworth had both, from all the credible reports Ashworth said it would be a slow build and wanted PL proven whilst we built a foundation to grow from which was seen as boring by Ineos as they wanted to make a statement so tried to run before they could crawl.

Keep mixing cocktails!

Reports differ, but he was on somewhere between £350k and £450k at Juve, for whom he scored 68 goals in 168 appearances. That’s in a league that Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay got POTY in, and Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan got title medals for in their mid 30s.

£70m asset?! We’d be lumbered with him on a massive contract. There isn’t a queue of clubs vying for him for a reason.

So do we think any other PL clubs would throw their hat in the ring for Osimhen at £65mil ? Think he would be a big hit in PL, he's absolutely lethal in the air. Wages would be a stumbling block for any club.

Abit too expensive for us, though I would like him at Utd. He can rotate with Sesko for game time.

Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur claims Tottenham have made their first move to sign Osimhen by making an opening offer worth between £50million and £55m.
Galatasaray want closer to £65m to sell the 27-year-old.

I would be all over it IF the wages weren't so huge

Wouldn't work for us this year since he would probably take over as lead striker, which is what Sesko was bought for last summer. Would've likely made more sense last summer before we bought Sesko.

I'd be fine with Tresoldi tbh. Not a sure thing by any means but we can probably afford the risk with Mbeumo, Sesko, Rashford and Cunha. We really need someone soon though given Sesko and Rashford likely won't even be ready for the start of the season. Expecting Zirkzee to be sold to Juve soon

Still firmly on Watkins train IF we could somehow find takers for Zirkzee and Rashford of course

Aside from Citeh' and Bayern, Osimhen could play wherever he wants. But it seems all about him. Why is he at Galatasary? There's a reason.

He's another Lukaku-Danny Ings-type forward. Strikers-for-hire.

He’s a completely different level of player to them.

Because of the astronomical wage demands, even moneybags Chelsea baulked at this which is telling

Many pens, limits their attack to be focused on just him, overall game is pretty poor.
I wonder whether he’s actually that good, or just a decent player that had a really good season. He looked miles out of his depth in that opening Brazil game and didn’t appear again.

James Beattie and Andy Johnson both had 20 goal seasons.

He has never looked great to me, Id be surprised if he backs it up....

Mateta would be good.

Out of contract 2027, aged 29….

45M….?

Feels like we are in that "middle of the transfer window" period again, where it seems like NOTHING is happening for weeks. Got some decent early on deals done in July but now everything stands still again since weeks. No outgoings, no news on the already limited targets we are after. You can bet your house that it will stay like this, only to get super hectic by the end of the window, 2 games into the season, probably leading to overpaying or making a wrong decision.

That‘s not what we‘ve been doing in the last two years. I expect a couple more signings.

They might not be the targets you‘ve heard about. Lewis Hall isn‘t moving probably, Watkins too expensive for his age and ability, Thiago too expensive for being a backup etc.

I‘m hoping for smart signings, good value. A big signing isn‘t out of the question if the deal is right.
