Do we need to sign a striker?

Are we not even looking at Ferran Torres? He's in the last year of his contract.

Mateta would be good.

Out of contract 2027, aged 29….

45M….?
United tax?

When his move to AC Milan broke down due to knee problems, the price was £30m.

I would stay well clear.

United tax and prem to prem transfer. I’d take him all day.

Mateta isn’t going anywhere because of his dodgy knee which is why his move to Milan broke down, with how we were with Ederson there’s zero chance we’d even contemplate Mateta

Yeah who is even left on striker shortlist now, Mateta understandably scratched off due to failed medical and no plans to move for Watkins now either.

I'm not so sure.

I want to see Amad and Dorgi Best get good minutes because I think both have a lot to offer. As it stands both will be second choice. When Sesko is out we can use Cunha, Mbuemo or even Rashford up front, opening up a space on the wings.

If we were going to get a pure CF in then Wellbeck would have been about as good an option as we could have hoped for and seemingly we didn't even try.

I'd rather we got an extra DM, a LB and if a 3rd is possible then go for another experienced CB who would be happy to be a backup but capable when required.

If Rashford and Zirkzee both leave then another forward would be needed.

If Rashford and Zirkzee stay then we won’t sign anyone
Maybe my take on the Rashford situation is naive. If we were willing for Barcelona to take him for £27mil, why not cut the price to £10-£15mil and therefore give any club who's interested more of a chance of meeting Rashford's financial demands?

City and Liverpool both had fire sales in the past when Klopp and Guardiola joined to get rid of players they didn't want at the club. Same for Rashford, move him on, take a hit on the transfer fee but just get him out and close the chapter on his career as a Utd player.

Get Zirkzee out on a loan with a obligation to buy, therefore the money is coming albeit next summer.

Lastly a few of us have said it, It's are utterly hopeless at exploiting the free transfer market. Even if you need someone with experience in just for 12-24 months to tide you over. Get them in.

There's no way the club would take a hit on Rashford, so unfortunately no backup striker coming unless him and Zirkzee suddenly find takers

Doesn't matter how much or little United are prepared to sell Rashford for, the ball is in Rashford's court entirely, if he doesn't want to go somewhere he ain't going anywhere and there's nothing anyone can do

This is all your damn fault Woody you complete clown

Got a nasty feeling we are going to start first couple of games of the season without Sesko being fit. Carrick will start with Mbuemo up front and bring Sesko on for last 20 or so like he did most of last season. Zirkzee will play a fair bit too.

It is what is. Not really the clubs fault.

Rashford, Ugarte and Zirkzee have hampered our plans somewhat I think.
I am most annoyed at Rashford and Zirkzee whereas Ugarte injury wasn't his fault but just sods law

Rashford is odds on to be going out on loan again, probably in the final days of the window. Which is not going to help us much as we still most likely be covering a lot of his wages.

Hard to see anyone come in for Zirkee , an Italian club might try a low ball offer or yet another loan deal for another player we cannot shift.

Just take loan deals with some form of obligation

And what would be wrong with that? Didn't we beat City and Arsenal with that setup?

The Watkins news is baffling. Are we planning an Ighalo type signing to be rotating with Sesko
Comparing a highly experienced EPL striker with 16 goals and 2 assists, in the 2025/2026 season, not to mention England international in the World Cup, to some washed-out player from China feels... what's the word... "baffling"? :)

I can see the point he's trying to make

Eh? I read that as us not being in for a player like Watkins is baffling, with the worry that we’re instead going to go for a much lower calibre player like Ighalo

Yeah that's how I interpreted it too

Tbh the Thompson signing leads me to believe that we’re not focusing at all on attackers anymore, at least for this window/year unless a Tielemans style opportunity presents itself for a top tier talent. We will be doing a lot of praying and hoping Sesko breaks out and makes a leap.

We have at least 2 players in each position, plus Dorgu filling in on both flanks, and Thompson acting as how we worked out Ayden’s playing time. Zirkzee, Sesko, Mbuemo and Cunha can all play the 9.

I’d like to see how a Rashford and
Dorgu wing pairing with Zirkzee up top would work, for some reason I think it would work really well.

Besides, we have a far more pressing concern at LB and midfield, and I don’t think we have the funds to spend on all 3 positions.

That would mean I completely misunderstood his post...
