Do we need to sign a striker?

I reckon we’ll sign an attacker (not necessarily striker) on or around deadline day. Rashford and Zirkzee will leave late and someone will come in, maybe even on loan. Transfer dominoes are going to start falling soon as deals like Diomande and Rodri start going through. There’ll be a player not even linked that might suddenly be available.

Yeah who is even left on striker shortlist now, Mateta understandably scratched off due to failed medical and no plans to move for Watkins now either.
If I’m honest mate I don’t think we will sign another forward unless we move both of Rashford and Zirkzee on or just Rashford as I think the powers that be would accept moving Zirkzee on without replacement.

I know it looks a bit grim to us fans but if we moved Zirkzee on I honestly believe Ineos would be happy with Cunha, Sesko, Amad, Mbeumo, Rashford, Dorgu, Thompson and Lacey as our forward options vying for three spots.

Playing devils advocate all of Cunha, Mbeumo and Rashford can play up top as well as out wide so Ineos being as tight as they are would see that versatility as us having enough back up to Sesko as well as being well stocked out.

I’d honestly be shocked if we did anything more now than a left back to rotate with Shaw so the drop off in quality when Shaw is inevitably injured is negliable and an athletic high stamina ball winning midfielder so maybe Hall and Baleba.

Keep mixing cocktails!

Reports differ, but he was on somewhere between £350k and £450k at Juve, for whom he scored 68 goals in 168 appearances. That’s in a league that Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay got POTY in, and Ashley Young, Matteo Darmian and Henrikh Mkhitaryan got title medals for in their mid 30s.

£70m asset?! We’d be lumbered with him on a massive contract. There isn’t a queue of clubs vying for him for a reason.
yes and one of the Juventus reps came out and said he would not be staying at Juventus because he wanted too much and he wouldn’t find another Italian team meeting his demands either. The guy is a mercenary

Yeah I'm also thinking we dont buy a forward unless we manage to get ride of both Zirkzee and Rashford. The latter is looking unlikely imo

Will be interesting to see where he goes, if the rumours that he wants to leave Madrid for first team football are true.

I guess his transfer fee will be too expensive for him to go to a Bournemouth or a Brighton. Plus I'd expect he will want CL as a minimum and play every week.

Will be interesting to see if he goes back to Lyon or someone like Dortmund. Or comes to PL.

Exactly how I feel except I dont even see us looking at Baleba. All great points.

I think there’s a reason we weren’t in for Guimares apart from just age and it’s because he’s a similar profile to Santos and we’re looking for something different to what we have in Mainoo, Tielemans and Santos so more of a ball winner so it’s Tchouameni IF available or Baleba as even though Berge is more affordable it’s the age thing again.

Zirkzee will probably be confirmed to Juve in the next couple days. Hopefully we get a striker in shortly after. With Sesko out I think we will get someone but more likely to be a cheap punt like Tresoldi than a PL striker. If Chelsea were open to loaning Jackson I could see us being interested but doubt we'd buy him permanently.

Endrick on loan might be possible. Not sure how I'd feel about that. I'm far less convinced by him than many others seem to be. He has massive hype but I've seen some pretty terrible performances from him. 5 league goals for Lyon isn't exactly great either. He is still young at 20, can't say I'd expect him to be reliable for us though. I'd rather take the punt on Tresoldi personally who's just 1 year older than him and has a very good goal record (19 league goals, 4 CL goals) in an admittedly weaker but improving league where we've already made one great signing recently (Lammens).

I know this sounds weird but last night I had this thought while I was making love to my wife. And I've been thinking about it all day today because I think I cracked it, this could be the perfect marquee signing for the club to make:

Endrick.

It sounds like he might be for sale, and if so he'll probably cost somewhere around the region of £65/70M. I think he would be perfect for many different reasons:

  • He can compete for a starting spot with Sesko.
  • He is versatile and could be played on either wing.
  • He has massive potential and will likely increase in value.
  • He is young and hungry to prove himself, the kind of character we want.
  • He would be greeted as a marquee signing and fans would be thrilled.
  • He would be a poster boy signing, extremely marketable for the club.
  • He could be bought just before the transfer window closes and be given the typical Madrid signing welcome, brought out of the tunnel and welcomed by the fans before our first home game of the season on August 30th.
There are probably even more positives that I could list but you get the picture. Endrick could be such a fantastic signing. If it played out the way I suggested, it would look fantastic in their documentary, but more importantly, we'd have a fantastic exciting player added to our squad.

My vote for our striker signing is undoubtedly Endrick. And if not him, then probably Troy Parrott as our Plan B.

Probably the best opening line to a post I've ever seen on this forum.

Well played sir.

I agree Endrick would be an exciting signing.

Don't forget the Sir Bobby is his idol connection too

Feel like im at the station waiting to board the muppet train to Endrick town. If they sign Diomande, feels like they’d need to recoup some money. So we turn his head and offer a loan with a conditional obligation and flip the tables for once.

Yeah they are quick enough to ask others so let's give them a little taste of their own medicine. His footballing idol was one of our greatest ever players so use it as a trump card.

I know it's The Sun. But anyone know anything about this guy?

Never heard of him but that does seem like a weird name to just create

EDIT: Actually that's not true, I remember his name from Football Manager so he's probably considered a wonderkid. Not sure how that's translated to his ability in the real world.

I'd love a forward like Chicharito, who makes runs in behind.

Who can we get who's like that?

There's no way our data led approach has landed on Delap as the answer.

We can probably get by without a ST. Cunha, Mbuemo, Rashford can all be back up to Sesko. A LB is far more important. We need a starting one… not just a prospect or a back up.

Watching the video that Tweet was apparently quoting and there's no mention of Delap being likely, so I think we can relax guys.

Here's the video:
