Do we need to sign a striker?

Let’s Watch the young lad from Villa Brian Madjo all season then put in a cheeky £50m bid, he might be the next big thing has the physicality and pace of a young Haaland.
Villa paid £10mil.for him. Could be an absolute bargain. Let's see how he develops

Enjoy Rashford, then.
Oh right, you were actually serious about bringing in Vinicius then ? We can’t afford a third midfielder or Lewis Hall yet you think we can go and spend £150 million on Vinicius and pay him £500+K a week and then use Cunha as a centre forward in rotation with Sesko so it’s nothing to do with any of us wanting Rashford and more being realists

Honestly some of you lot on here really need to give your head a wobble as we can’t shift Rashford or Zirkzee so stuck with them and their near £500K combined wages for the season, we’re not going to bring a forward in unless both of those are moved on and even if Zirkzee goes we’d likely still not bring a forward in

Whether you like it or not or you choose not to accept it we have Sesko, Cunha, Amad, Mbeumo, Rashford, Dorgu, Lacey and Thompson even if Zirkzee goes which Ineos will see as good enough as a group and enough bodies for the forward line seeing as it’s 8 players for 3 positions and real life isn’t a Football Manager save

Just don't shit yourself over someone's opinion, please.

No chance of that when the idea was straight out of a Football Manager save rather than real life, we just moved Casemiro on because of his wages when we need midfielders so unless Ineos were going to stuff a briefcase with Monopoly money and pay Vinicius in IOU’s it’s muppetry of the highest order as we can’t even fix the priority areas let alone get luxuries

That doesn't mean I have to tolerate underperforming freeloaders in the team, which in case of some players clearly need booting, to make way for new ideas of a new team.

Rashy has a contact at this club and we are horrible in terms of selling players. He will probably stay at the club and the club will sell this failure as a new signing.

Okay. So instead of changing something for the better, once again we're gonna go with the flow with rest of dead fish. At least in Football Manager you could do something.

I like signing young, under the radar players, but for sustaining CL, we'll need some first team quality sooner or later.

If Carrick turns somehow Rashford into great player, then at least we'll know we have some manager at disposal, but it sounds like another FM fantasy.

How can I change anything? I'm neither the owners nor can I really enough supporters up to kick these leeches out

Think this is exactly why we appointed guy like Berrada, to change course of entire club and enterprise, with Jim's help, but it looks like we might have to wait another 2/3 years for any positive developments.

Nkunku might be a decent rotation option at the right price but would seem dependent on one of Rashford/Zirkzee leaving.

Would be keener to take a punt on a younger player like Tresoldi or someone, though confess to not knowing much at all about the possible options.

In an ideal world, you need two striker to get trophies.

In our case, Sesko is young, started slowly and is currently injured, so I'd say yes, but I doubt we'll have one as Mbeumo and Cunha can fill the gap and we play without 9

I think Chelsea have 12 or 13 towards on their books at the most recent count (might have signed a few more in the past couple of days). I wonder what they'd be willing to take for Nicolas Jackson. Villa reportedly have some interest.

why not go after Ibrahim Mbaye or Mika Godts....we don't need a traditional 9 if we have three front players with pace

I think our financial restrictions are such that we will end up bringing in a body on loan. It would be suicide footballing wise not to bring in another striker.

Well in that case as you won’t tolerate it let’s arrange a sit down with you and Rashford and you can let him in on your feelings, it’s the clubs fault for giving him a ridiculous contract for a good 6 month spell and now we can’t move him on as no one will come close to paying the same so Rashford will get paid by us until the end of summer 2027 unless another club thinks he’s worth the risk or someone stupid like Chelsea or Spurs.

Look I get you’re frustrated just like we all are but this is now the result of the ridiculous spending and financial mismanagement of the club over the past 15 years now coming to bite us, let’s just say you’re in Rashford’s position and you’re being paid £325K a week no matter whether you perform or not what do you do ?

It’s no secret in football that Rashford is lazy and has a poor attitude as well as a massive case of self entitlement where he has become so misguided and poorly advised he actually seems to believe that a few charitable things off the pitch offset his piss poor form and attitude on the pitch but reality is it’s the clubs own fault we can’t shift Rashford and for that matter struggle shifting players at all.

United became the juggernaut we know because we had experienced owners who hired experienced people who made sure that the financial and the football side lived in harmony with one another. The latter knew that it depended on the latter to sustain its success. The latter respected the former because it was the ones who signed the cheque for that expensive wonder kid no one else could afford. Decisions were taken in an instant because everyone was located in Manchester few meters away from one another. Despite all that there were times when they were caught with their pants down. For example we lost out on Gazza because SAF was in holiday in Malta. He told us (not Romano, not Whitwell but Sir Alex himself) that Gazza was in the bag and he was signing on Monday. That's how close that signing was.

Fast forward to modern time and we've got a totally different setup. We've got the Glazers who are in Tampa Bay who take care of the financials, SJR is playing real life FM while living in Monaco and the poveri cristi (poor Christs) like Berrada in Manchester. The Glazers are seen as a one blob by the fans but they are not. Most of them don't give a feck about the club and in reality they want out but they can't because the only way to make maximum profit out of their shares is to sell to those people within the Class B share 'family'. Yet Joel, Avram and SJR don't want to buy those shares either. This cause friction were the football side might want to do something but the financial might have other plans. Recently there was a Bloomberg report that some of the Glazers family wanted to sell their shares and before that SJR had made it obvious that he is not interested in buying more shares. In such circumstances they might resort to close the financial tap in a bid to humiliate SJR (who had become the front man) and push him to either buy more shares/control or find a new buyer for the club to get himself and the rest out of this mess. On a tactical level Berrada and co can do the day to day running of the club but certain big investments require signatures. There's 6 Glazers out there (and are notoriously known for kicking the can down the road) and SJR whose got bigger fish to fry considering that his beloved INEOS is 18b in debt and had their debt downgraded to junk territory.

Then there's the financial side which is, quite honestly, terrifying. We've been recording losses since 2018-19, we're in 1.3B debt and we've since paid 852m in debt interest. The age of cheap debt is over, our stadium is rotting which means we've got to build a new stadium (2b minimum) and soon enough the Glazers will be entitled to take dividends again.

If you see things from that perspective them you'll understand why United look so sluggish on the transfer market and is penny pinching. I can't see us getting out of this hole until the GlINEOS are out and we're bought by an owner who can actually afford us.

Either a backup 9 or another winger, as mbuemo and cunha provide decent alternatives to Sesko. Either scenario would see us through the season well.

Wenger's hands were tied in the transfer market for a number of years while they tried to pay off the construction costs if the Emirates. That was when debt was cheap to service.

God knows how long it would take Utd to pay off a new stadium while under £2billion of debt and glazers taking out dividends. Could be another 10-15 years after the new stadium is build. So we could be into the 2040's and still paying off the debt.

The financial outlook is bleak without someone buying out the glazers and clearing off the debt, not re-financing it. The only way for that to happen is state ownership.

Thank you for this post, because sooner or later we'll have to do, what other big clubs do in order to address key positions, and that will cost us, just like any other club. We can try outmaneuver ourselves from spending in most clever ways, but the effect most likely will be at some point our left side, consisting of Shaw & Rashford in fixtures, bit more brutal than Hull, or Ipswich.

You don't sit with feckin Rashford, and waste time talking to him. You isolate him from the team that wants to go somewhere. I was sad when Beckham, Keane, or Ruud left, but there was always a way out of this compassionate way of thinking, in a highly competitive sport, where guys like Rashford are being dispossessed of a ball by simply applying more physical pressure than in other leagues.

Other than that, I fully I agree with you, sometimes you gotta accept reality of situation, it's just when season starts people will go full supporter mode. There will be no time to even assess why we're not exactly there yet. Educated guess could tell you, Carrick being 5th manager in 6 years can lead to appointing 6th manager in 6/7 years. I don't know about you, but that's no longer some serious mismanagement, it's actually getting very close to terminal mental illness on club's part.

Or can Rashford finally start playing quick, precise football.

The problem is that we're already drowning in debt even before we had laid down the first brick. Unless these morons sell then we need to expect similar transfer windows were we buy a 29 year old Tielemans and we portray him as prime Bryan Robson or a 21 year old squad player from Chelsea and we portray him as the next Roy Keane.

I'd really love to see how Klopp would manage in exact enviroment you've descibed. Could he resign just after one or two years, due to lack of solutions ? Took him four years to clear things out in Pool, under some reasonably strict conditions set by owners, which probably helped more than damage his end vision, and Rashford probably wouldn't handle heavy metal football in a long run, unless he could be motivated by something else, anything for that matter.

At least what board could do is to try, clear players, which is far more probable than moving owners as you perfectly demonstrated. If we can't do that, then perhaps we're sitting on a bomb that could explode, or maybe not, but let's find out. Jim invested in training grounds, but additional investors in future isn't something entirely impossible, if actual football could improve in a long run.

When INEOS came they promised best in class across the board. TBF they started well with Berrada and Ashworth who were well respected in the field. Then they moved their sight towards the manager. The club made it pretty obvious that they were interviewing people yet none of them 'wanted the job'. So they had to beg ETH to stay, something he humiliated them publicly with his 'they visited me while on vacation' interview. Then ETH left, Ashworth followed, we promoted Wilcox (12 months experience in the job at Southampton) and we hired some guy who had never managed outside of Portugal. The guy was so desperate for a top job that he moved mid season. When Amorim got sacked we hired Carrick as temporary manager and the discussions of 'best in class' briefly resurfaced. However they ended soon as most managers we were linked to either chose another job (Brazil) or quickly signed a contract extension. What once was the dream job became the backup job for Brazil's national team.

Wilcox instead of an experienced DOF, Carrick instead of a top manager, a former Chelsea squad player as replacement to Casemiro, a 29 year old Tielemans instead of an Eliot Anderson or a Fernandes. The strategy is quite consistent. Its geared towards doing more with less. That's hardly an attractive prospect for a manager. Even the likes of Andy Mitten who tend to kiss the club's ass is struggling to defend them. He's coming with waffle like "“There’s money there, but I don’t think you’ll see stupid-money signings because the money is not there.”. It's either there or not there.

INEOS/Glazers may be incompetent on football matters but they are not stupid financial wise. They know that they are heading towards the end of the road and that the investment needed to turn this around dwarf anything they want to spend. I believe that the idea is to start making some form of profit, get all permits for the new stadium and get consistent European qualification. Then we might become an attractive asset to sell. Newcastle meltdown is quite interesting. Saudi seem to have completely lost hope in doing an Abramovich on them. The rules had simply got too stringent for that to happen. Could we become their next target?

Without commenting on the whole post, the underlined is patently untrue, Amorin didn't want to start mid-season, he wanted to wait until the end of the season, but he was catergorically told it was now or never

I agree and it shows desperation.

Since we can't have profit model based on selling players, it's an option for sure. Even if the idea of any attractive investor being torpedoed by usual suspects, I'll still love to see Glazers, and their typical gymnastics of stalling every deal, and how they'll basically rat themselves out as the same obstacle, in way of doing something differently.

I have faint, but still hope, Jim is much better than them with their shitty hedge funds, and could invest bit further with his own wealth, perhaps the pressure from arising investors will help, if he will manage with his own debt.

Glazers / Ineos are definitely not stupid, indeed. Major success on the pitch helps everybody, it's hard to ignore that, especially if Ineos debt will keep getting out of control.

I’ve said for years that we need to be more like Real and Bayern in being completely ruthless instead of constantly being sentimental, Real and Bayern have a ‘what have you done for us lately’ approach to keep players on their toes and let them know they should be happy the club allow them to play there whereas we reward mediocrity and players seem to make us think we’re lucky to have them

Remember Berrada saying if players don’t improve within two years then they’re being moved on yet how many players have improved in the last two years ? It smacks of naivety and inexperience which is exactly what Berrada and Wilcox are and until we put experienced people into key positions upstairs that a big club needs we’ll struggle to be a big club again

Why did he want to captain a sinking ship in what was possibly the worst time to do it? Hint: he was desp...
Sometimes you only get once chance, Tommy Doc took on a sinking ship, so did SAF, that doesn't make them desparate, I'm pretty sure they viewed it as an opprotunity that might never come again, and I'm sure Amorin viewed it that way as well, as I'm sure Ole did and Carrick does

I think there’s some interesting options in the Championship

Vipotnik at Swansea
Ivanovic at Millwall
Toure at Norwich

Yup, I remember that. They're buying themselves some time, bit similarly to Glazers, in which they were extremely lucky to have SAF and his success as a shield. Not anymore.

While Berrada being somewhat upgrade on Woodward, it's Carrick that should get majority of credit, if he'll manage to somehow pull off successful season, which could massively depend on Sesko's form, and cover for his position.

Sometimes you only get once chance, Tommy Doc took on a sinking ship, so did SAF, that doesn't make them desparate, I'm pretty sure they viewed it as an opprotunity that might never come again, and I'm sure Amorin viewed it that way as well, as I'm sure Ole did and Carrick does
Prior of joining us, amorim was considered for 2 top jobs ie city and Liverpool. They turned him down because his tactics required an overhaul of their team. He took the united job when we were tanking and in the worst time possible (mid season). He was told that he's just a head coach (a diminished role that was previously turned down by Tuchel and co) and he wasn't allowed to join at the beginning of next season. That sounds pretty desperate to me

That would have meant nothing if he only made it work.

On loan without an obligation to buy. If we are down to the final hour of the transfer window and have no other new forward coming in to backup Sesko.

A player with 13 league goals in 3 seasons - that is exactly what we need :) Or to put it another way - a 29 year old striker who had 2 very good seasons in his life - and was garbage ever season before or after
