Do we need to sign a striker?

Despite the insistence from Romano it's stay in Saudi or retire maybe we do a Falcao in 2014 and offer deal

He will ask massive wages. No point.

Mateta seems obvious one as backup. Or can go for a younger punt.
I'm not so sure he would late in his career, will we really try to sign another injured player after Baleba though?

Thankfully you aren’t in charge of transfers.

Why would you go and pay £100m + for a player who clearly doesn’t want to sign for anyone bar Barcelona.

It would go against the whole ethos of what INEOS are trying to do which is only sign players who actually genuinely want to be at United.

If Alvarez doesn’t want to play for Arsenal
I see absolutely no reason why he’d want to play for us.
No wonder the fanbase believe all that Ineos says. Then you deserve to fight in the middle of the table.
I meant someone like Alvarez, instead of always looking for the cheap version.
Sometimes the cheap option isn't the right. Pay up and get Kane, but prefer to save a few millions then get Højlund and Zirkzee and still be mid-table in attack.
Instead of saving money and buying Ugarte etc, go get Neves or Rice.
Wouldn't pay what Haaland was priced at during the Solskjær era.
We are broke, due to Glazers and wrong transfers. Wrong transfers are not just the big ones like Antony. It's also all the smaller fees for players like Ugarte, Dorgu etc. Wake up, or stay in la la land fighting Brighton for 6th.

How am I “believing all that INEOS says?”

I do actually believe when they say they want to sign players who want to be at the club because to think otherwise re: signings would be moronic.
And the players they’ve signed fit that criteria.

It’s exactly what Arteta and Arsenal did with transfers. Cleared out the deadwood and he’s created a strong culture at the club.

Buying someone who openly said they only want to go to Barcelona and spending money on a top striker are two different things.

You acknowledge that we’re broke but advocate spending the way to the top

Juve want Zirkzee and have Woltemade as back up option it seems.

Here’s a wild shout, what about Woltemade on loan for a year? Was banging the goals in when he first came to the Prem then tapered off, maybe he could rediscover that form if he joined a better team?

There's probably a reason why Juventus have identified both of those players together, they're very similar in profile. Neither look like proper strikers and both look too slow to make it in this league. He wouldn't be an upgrade and I doubt Newcastle would do business with us anyway.

Definite no from me. Thought he was really poor for Newcastle. He had a good start so many seem to think he did well but he looked very poor after the first couple weeks. Don't trust him to score goals for us. There are better options that seem to be on the market still.

Well never mind, guess we’re stuck with Zirkzee then :(

If we are stuck with Zirzkee, why can't the coaching staff work with him to make him more into a traditional number 9?

Because he hasn't got the hold up play, bullying ability or goalscoring we need for that particular role

He's not quick enough, he's not got that striker instinct, it's not something that he can develop at this stage of his career. He might do OK in some matches, but he does predominantly occupy the same space as Bruno. For the good of his career he should be trying to find a club that's suitable for his skillset.

Agreed. But beggars can't be choosers. If we are stuck with him, then work with him to make him into the striker we need.

When Bobby Robson took over at Newcastle, shearer was a shadow of his former self, due to knee injuries. Robson changed his role and told him to stay in the 18 years area and that the players would find him.

Tell Zirkzee similar, we need you to stay in 18 years area, ping balls into him for him to hold up and lay off. Try to train him to do something different as currently even when we are chasing a game, he doesn't come off the bench

Zirkzee is off to Juve apparently. Who are we getting as a replacement? Benzema? :D

Looks like we spoke too soon. Juve seemingly going for both Woltemade and Zirkzee. The new striker dream isn't dead yet

Sounds like Richarlison isn't sold on the Everton move. Wouldn't mind him on loan tbh.

It’s one or the other, not both.
That tweet and another one came after the Woltemade to Juve being basically confirmed tweets. Don't think we know yet whether it's just one or the other. They might want both.

The age and potential wages will scare us away, would have still took Mateta despite the injury but brassic

after all the money he had earned, perhaps he doesn't need to care about money that much

offering him 250k for 1+1 may worth a try

Less bothered about this to be honest, ideally we'd get someone, but at least we have viable options that can play there across the front line - even if we only that the one aerial threat in Sesko.

So Zirkzee rejects Fiorentina only to be rejected by his only other option Juve? Well, for depth reasons, maybe better he stays as I doubt we would have signed a replacment this summer

I will never understand signing him

It was not a bad signing at the time I felt. Team of the year and young player of the season for a decent price. Did not work out though so a shame we dont manage to sell him like other teams manage to do
