Dominic Calvert-Lewin | Set to leave Everton on free transfer

What are you on about? No-one is arguing Weghorst is a world class striker. No one mentions he is in the league of the NL strikers you mention such are RVP, RVN, Makaay, Hasselbaink, Van Hooijdonk.

The only thing @90THMIN... mentions is that you aren't doing Wout his carreer justice by downsizing it to one specific moment. And rightfully so... I've been to Turkye lately and Besiktas fans are raving about him. He is the 2nd all-time goalscorer for VFL Wolfsburg in just 3.5 season. He
has apart from the 2 goals vs Argentina scored a lot of very important goals for NL in the last years.

Also in your attempt of bashing you make a lot of questionable claims.
- You are trying to put words in someones mouth.. 'he is not a one carreer moment striker' -> 'Do you really think this would have happened in a completely different time in history when NL was fulled with world class strikers'
- 'Even Luuk de Jong'. Luuk de Jong is one of the best headers in the world. Struggled when he was young at Newcastle and BMG, but later in his carreer was very valuable for both Barcelona and Sevilla (3 goals in EL semi finale/final).
- What does the fact that NL has a missive dry spell in strikers at the moment have anything to do that Wout's carreer is more than just the single highlight of the World Cup game against Argentina?

I think you are indeed only remembering Wout by his time at United, where he was used as a starting striker and/or even a starting number 10. Which are both horrible decisions. On a higher level Wout is nothing more than a (very capable) supersub and pinch hitter. Thats how Ajax uses him very effectively and that's how NL has almost always used him very effectively.

If United would have used Wout in a similar fashion as we used McTominay in ETH his last full season, we would have used him to his strenths a lot more and Im quite sure memories about him would have been a lot more positive. Yet we used him as a starting striker, for which he is NOWHERE good enough.

And no-one argues he is, but he deserves a lot more credit than his carreed being downgraded to a single game where he scored to good and important goals at the highest level.

PS: I despise the egocentric dramaqueen this is Wout Weghorst

What has DCL done in his career? Weghorst scoring 2 last minutes goals versus Argentina at the quarter final of the world cup is better than anything DCL has done in his career!

Does this look like your friend downsize Weghorst career to the moments or me? So I can’t debate what was brought out by the other? See for yourself that the topic was about those two goals in dying minutes of that game. I hope you’re not in position to referee or judge anything in life.

If ETH had that idea of using Weghorst as whatever you described here, Weghorst wouldn’t have been here and got to lift League Cup. Ronaldo left, Martial was rarely available. We needed a #9. McTominay would have taken care of McTominay role you described no? Why would we need a competition for McTominay? Clearly that 2 goals influenced the recruitment decision of ETH, who has questionable judgement on the players ability.

ETH rarely played McTominay to his strength to realize his full potential. Bringing out Weghorst full potential during his loan with us would have got us what exactly? It’s not like he was a roaring success returning to Bundesliga, and now at Ajax.

Edin Dzeko won Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, their first and only title and moved on to other things. He continued to win trophies at other clubs. That’s the type of memorable career for players who are not top class. You think players dream to come to Wolfsburg to become the club all time top scorer? Weghorst found his max level. He stayed long because no better clubs wanted him. Wolfsburg cashed in when his decline started. Only cultist mind would celebrate his type of career. The only trophy he had ever won was League Cup with us. That’s the luck he has been enjoying when he’s on the other side of his prime. Now Netherland NT & Ajax celebrated mediocrity? His one goal in last Euro, and 2 goals in Nations League got them to another finals? Ajax won the title? Ajax and Netherland can’t produce a better forward? Is that what famous Ajax academy being reduced to?

Luuk de Jong was not prolific but he did make some mark at Sevilla. Why could I forget he scored against us? He however was out of place for Barcelona. Koeman just wanted more Dutchmen. Would Barcelona fan remember Koeman time with fondness? The question remains: Would Luuk de Jong got into England team from 2018 onward, if he is English?

In a scenario late in the window where we have gotten our new ST, Zirkzee is the backup ST, and Obi the 3rd option, I wouldn't be totally against signing DCL as like a joint 3rd option alongside Obi.
Comparing DCLs stats last season with Hojlunds it's clear how limited they both are, but at least DCL would offer us something in terms of much better aerial ability, higher defensive work rate, a better target man, and someone that gets to more chances (although he's obviously not a great finisher though). It's grim reading Hojlunds 24/25-stats, I'm genuinly hoping that he's able to revive his confidence again and bounce back again.

I never downsized his career to those two goals though. I said even if you take away everything he has done in his career those two goals alone against Argentina will be remembered more than anything DCL has done in his career. True or not?

529 days out injured in the last four seasons according to transfermarkt. No thanks. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dominic-calvert-lewin/verletzungen/spieler/306024
