USA striker Balogun's one-game ban suspended by Fifa​

Fifa said the automatic one-match ban would be suspended for a year. No reasoning behind the move was provided, beyond citing a rule which allows punishments to be suspended.

The Royal Belgian Football Association (RBFA) said it is "astonished" by Fifa's decision and is "investigating all potential options" in response.

On Thursday, Balogun became the 12th player to receive a red card at this World Cup.

He will be the first not to serve a suspension.

Shocking but not surprising.
 
They gave a reason now. Said it's because the ref saw a slow motion replay, which clouded hits judgement or something like that.

The point of a separate thread is that it's a unique situation (corruption?) that deserves discussing separately without derailing the other WC threads. If the mods disagree, I'm sure they'll delete or lock it.

Agree. It stinks. But I want to see how it plays out first. In general, I'm for reversing red cards if there was a clear and obvious mistake. But this reeks of pressure and influence and a FIFA president who is blown over at the faintest breeze in direction of the smell of money or power.

If the outcome of this is that we all agree VAR is shit and is being abused to manipulate the game AND we decide to bin VAR, it would by far be the best thing Trump has done for the world.
 
It was a poor decision but ignoring the competition rules under political pressure is a truly woeful decision.
 
After the tournament he will go back to being a supremacist and acting like people of colour are not important; except for when they are their are the national teams best player.

Maybe he will start a war on Belgium after they get kicked out.
 
It’s all good and as expected - we’ll still watch the games even if Trump calls Infantino and forces him to disqualify Belgium. We’ll say some angry words online and keep feeding the monster as if nothing happen :lol: ridiculous but FIFA can get away with absolutely everything - and the only things fan could do is a total boycott, which will never happen. It’s only going to get more ugly and corrupt in the future because why not? There’s literally no reason to stop for Infantino, he can do what he wants and we still consume his product, while he laughs and spits at our faces :lol:

Absolutely, its not as if this hasn't happened at every single world cup going back well over 200 years, FIFA has absolutely nothing to answer for here, its all totally normal and defintely not corrupt.
