It's ridiculous that these 45m we spent for him could have been used for another player that would have played in the starting lineup. Half of the season he has been barely of any use to us.
This would be the most annoying part if he never ends up as a starter here.

If it's true that he was forced on Ole, then credit to Ole. He knew Grealish was on another planet to Donny and isn't going to play him just cos he was forced upon him. He's our worst midfielder, which says a lot as our options aren't great.

If Ole did want him then it's strange. It was obvious he was a rubbish player so if he only realised that watching him up close in training and games then that's worrying.
But he is playing him. For 8 minutes here, 7 minutes there, as a last minute sub. If he's not going to play him because he doesn't want him, then why even put him on the bench? Use that place for somebody else, another up-and-comer. From my perspective, it doesn't reflect well on Ole because, in general, many of his subs are poorly timed. So, it just looks like bad management more than anything else. Or mismanagement, if you want to call it that.

I do wonder what the other players are thinking when they see this. It's creating a problem that we just don't need. If the player is there, then give him a try. We couldn't have done any worse by bringing him on 20 minutes earlier and at least we would be trying something different in a game where we were already losing and going out of the competition.

Always seemed like a weird signing. How to fit him in a team already stacked with CMs? Turns out we can’t. Surely that money could have been better spent?
Makes you wonder if a Pogba departure was imminent, and we brought in Donny as a panic buy/safety buy to fill a Pogba void.

Of course this is only speculation, but with Pogba's agent rearing his ugly head in December, it suggests that it may have been the case.

He was bought to be a sub. That’s what he is. You’d think we could’ve found a cheaper upgrade to Pereira though.

Sick of hearibg we shoild be patient and he will be phased in. Surely he should have got more minutes by now. Subbing him on so late today just seemed ridiculous when mcfred and bruno were playing so horrendously. We are clearly desperate for more quality in central midfield which seems to be his best position. Those linking his lack of minutes to pogba are ignoring that pogba has played on the left the ladt couple of games

Maybe play him instead of absolute dross like Mctominay?

he will get his chances.

He needs to wait. if he doesn’t like that, then feck off, he won’t be missed. Seems like Dutch people have a massive dildo up their arse about this.

Or we could have spent slightly more on a someone better to start in the double pivot

Yeah, does seem like a possibility. Or maybe an effort to stop us running Bruno into the ground again? Despite the fact he’s a completely different player. So here we are. Running Bruno into the ground again.

What does he need to wait for?
injury/ suspension/ to impress in training.

we have a lot of good midfielders. The mix isint right, but I’m not convinced he’s the answer.

who would he have played instead of tonight?

Know some people will laugh but seems Ole is taking out his frustration on not getting Grealish last summer on Donny

I think the 2 things are completely unrelated, otherwise VDB would have played much more anyway

But that Solskjaer brought him on for few minutes was ridiculous for every other reasons.
I feel sorry for the lad, how is he ever going to get a chance when coming on for as a sub in nearly every match he plays. 40 million sat on the bench. Has to be let off the lead before he is condemned.

Had he been a proper CM he'd have been utilised but he's an attacking midfielder who is not nearly as talented as Fernandes and Pogba. Been a waste of a half season from our biggest name signing of last summer.

When it's clear after the first half that Bruno is completely shot, subbing for VDB is an option. There is nothing to gain by keeping Bruno for long stretches when he is finished physically and replacing him so late.

He's a different player to Bruno but then just change the way of playing when VDB plays. He absolutely should play more to prove his worth. No sense in giving him garbage minutes. He should start on Saturday, starting Bruno would be complete madness.

If he doesn't start against Watford he should leave IMO.

Ole is really misusing him and putting more pressure on him by not giving him more minutes.

He's pretty much got to have an absolute blinder now against Watford with hardly any match time in the last month, otherwise people will just say he's not good enough again.

The frustrating thing is we see plenty of our players have worse matches, but they somehow get a free pass.

There is something going on here. Personally if the situation doesnt improve by the summer, VDB should hand in a transfer request and go to Barca or Madrid where he will be an absolute star. Its an incredible waste of a talent at the moment. Its a weakness of Ole (one among a number) that he cannot rotate or rest players. He trusts a core set of players and thats it. I care more about our league position this season than anything else. So rest Bruno for the cup and europa games. Start VDB. Also use VDB at home games where the opposition sit back and we have to break them down. We dont need to holding midfielders for home games.

He should start weekend. I think I would have brought him on earlier than he came on just for something different
He's better on the ball than either of McFred. May have helped us mount some sort of attack

I can understand why he hasn't played / started much before yesterday though. I think he would have taken pogbas minutes but Pogba has been playing well so we're using him.

Hopefully he impresses on the weekend though being thrown in after a long absence could work against him

What are you on ABOUT? Two different players. McT wins balls in midfield. Donny looks lost, few seconds behind our attack.
Mctominay wins balls in midfield?

Did none of the last night, or against Villa or Leicester.

How can anyone write him off when hes barely had half a chance to impress this far? I agree that a DM would have been a better buy in the summer but hey ho.

I believe he can play a very useful squad role for us going forward. Ole jut needs to actually give him a chance, look at what happened to Fred as proof of this.

Personally I'd like to see him get a run of games as a progressive 8 next to Fred or Mc'Tom.

Yet some fans think despite his lack of game time this season he’ll simply slot in & exceed Pogba’s performances should he leave next season.

With IgS finally stumbling on the idea it’s best to keep Pogba further away from your own goal against better teams I don’t see where VdB consistently gets game time.

Signing made no sense from the off, we don’t play a system he can flourish in & in his favoured position have 2 greater talents; a proper CM/DM is/was needed.

That would really help his situation.
Well it can't get any worse for him now does it?
Causing problems helped Pogba get more minutes, so why not try.
It's very clear that Ole doesn't want him. It really isn't all about the minutes he get, it's about the moment he gets to play. Mostly in games that are already done, so he'll never ever can show what he can do. Common critique here is that when he passes back a lot or doesn't shoot when he can. That's all because he knows that he has to do everything perfect in order to maybe get some more minutes in a future game. If you watch clips from his Ajax time you can see that is not the player he was when had confidence.

Still too soon to write him off but I really thought that games like yesterday (because „only“ Carabao) or Burnley (because Match against Liverpool) next week he would be used to give Bruno a rest.

Team Oles trust is not there yet obviously but the question is how can he earn it with such limited time on the pitch.

We need Bruno fit against Pool and if we can only beat Burnley at home with him a title race is too early for that team anyways.

VdB should start the next two imo and can hopefully prove his worth in those two matches to the squad.

Can't believe the number of people writing him off or saying he's not worth a start. How the hell will we know if he's never given a chance. And I mean a proper chance...starting premier league games with the proper first team, not twenty minutes here and there as a sub.

He's being written off like Bailly.

It shows that players need a run of 3-4-5 games to get fully up to speed and get used to the team.

So many people would have happily sold Bailly yet now they think he's our best defender.

The same could happen with DVB, but he's hardly had a chance. 1 match here and there isn't enough.

Ole’s non-use of Donny has gone beyond farce. Given where we are in the table we club supporters have to stand by the manager, but if any one us were Donny Van de Beek it’s time to start thinking about moving to another club. If you’re not given chances and watching McTominay and James consistently get more quality minutes than you, perhaps it’s just not meant to be.

So why did Ole play Pogba earlier in the season when he was clearly unfit?

Its the bloody double standards that Ole has that's infuriating. Some players get away with anything, whereas others needs to wait for everything to be aligned before they finally get a chance.

OGS had worked with Pogba for 18 months, and knew what he could and couldn’t do. Perhaps that was a misstep, but most of the team were In poor condition.

Guy is being treated like shite because Ole didn't get his way last summer
that’s complete BS, and you know it. If it was Jose, then sure, but not OGS. He’s not playing DVDB because he’s throwing a tantrum

I don't think it is BS at all, the evidence of his lack of game time just shows there is clearly an issue, don't buy into his words in the media one little bit

Clearly there are reasons why he’s not playing - but it’s not because the manager didn’t get his way in the summer!!!!!

maybe he’s just not been very good in training.

that’s infinitely more likely that the manager “sending a message to Ed” and throwing his toys out of the pram.
