Dwight to Boro for £60k a week
DWIGHT YORKE has been offered £60,000 a week to join Middlesbrough.
The Manchester United striker has been told he can leave Old Trafford for £7million.
And Boro have already tempted Yorke with their fabulous package that will more than DOUBLE his United salary.
Boro are the only current option available to Yorke, 30, after it was revealed Fulham are signing Valencia's Norwegian striker John Carew.
Fulham pulled out of the chase for Yorke after being made aware of his salary expectations.
The Trinidad hitman has told close pals he is looking forward to linking up with former Reds No2 Steve McClaren and old Aston Villa team-mates Gareth Southgate and Ugo Ehiogu.
England international Southgate said: "I feel Dwight would make an excellent signing.
"Dwight and Ugo know each other very well too and our manager worked with him at Old Trafford in what was a fantastically successful period.
"He has increased his strike rate considerably since leaving Villa Park.
"But it's his all-round game that is so good. He brings in other players, holds the ball up and makes as many goals as he scores.
"Dwight would interest any number of clubs. I couldn't speak highly enough of him."
Boro boss McClaren is aware of the versatility Yorke can bring, having coached him at Old Trafford following his £12.5m move from Villa Park three years ago.
Yorke hit 47 goals in 80 league matches for United but it is also his ability as a creator McClaren wants to harness.
Boro have the fourth worst goalscoring record in the Premiership, dragging them into a ferocious relegation scrap.
Croatian striker Alen Boksic has gone off the boil with just six goals and relations with McClaren are understood to have become strained.
Boro have also tabled a £3m offer for Brighton hotshot Bobby Zamora, 20, but have been told it is not enough.
