Ederson - Atalanta Midfielder

Well the system is what is important here so to say you don’t care makes no sense. Bruno isn’t suited to a deeper role in a 4-2-3-1. But in a 3-4-2-1 system a need for an out and out #6 isn’t needed in every game.

I've been following Bruno since he played for Sampdoria and I repeat he's not suited for a deep playmaker role. If he can't play as no 10 then we might as well sell him and recoup enough money to bring a proper DP player

I am happy to sell him as well but it doesn’t matter if you’ve followed since birth. He hasn’t played in a 3-4-2-1 system like this which makes things different.

At Sampdoria he was the AMC in a 4-3-1-2 system. So its close enough. They noticed there that the deeper Bruno is played, the less effective he became.

I keep saying this system is what you need to look at. Amorim is trying to get his team to press as a diamond and a pentagon so it doesn’t really matter, per se, who the players are as long they press as a team. Sampdoria didn’t do no matter what formation you claim they played.

The first half built us up and they knocked us down

Seems a good player but similar to Ugarte. We need a player that will dictate the tempo and can reach the 10's, striker, and potentially wing backs with his passing. Mainoo can't, Casemiro can sometimes, Eriksen can but too slow, Ugarte can't.

Must sign for sure. He's the mould of midfielder we need to be signing going forward. Players who can get up and down the pitch without wilting easily.

Serie A scares me to be honest, but hopefully this new transfer structure produces more hits than misses.

I haven’t seen much of him but from stats, seems like a very complete midfielder. We sign him and Mateus Fernandes with our current midfielders (Ugarte, Collyer, Kone), we should be in good shape even if KM leaves.

Was seeing his stats on fotmob and they seem more impressive than the ones posted from fbrev

I think that gives a decent overview of the kind of player he is - well rounded without necessarily being a specialist creator or ball winner. When I've watched him I've been really impressed by his energy and ability to affect play at both ends of the pitch. He's strong in the air too which is always useful and physically won't have any problems in the PL.

I think he'd be a really sensible signing for the right price. Kind of like what we'd hoped Fred would be, energetic box to box who can create and defend, a bit like we used to beg for in the 442 days.

wonder will they give us a discount because of hojlund - maybe they were playing a big practical joke and will have a great laugh about it while they sell him to us for 35 million.

Maybe watch him play? He is one of the most well-rounded CM's in Europe at the moment and a brilliant fit for this system.

This aside from the fact that these stats you're pointing to show him to be well above average in a host of important categories...
I have watched him, he’s honestly nothing special, but what I have noticed is he’s a 7/10 every game type player and we could use one or two of those

This guy and Hjulmand from Sporting.

Guess our midfield will be transformed .

All about the cost - not exactly super young, buying when he'll be 26 so likely his peak price. Would think we could pick up a couple of younger/high potential/high risk CMs instead of him.

No chance we pay big money for him or anyone while we've got the tent to pay for

A player is 7/10 every game and he's nothing special? Do you have any idea what you're saying? He would be the best midfielder on the planet with that kind of consistency.

Maybe a 7/10 average is a better way to say it? 6/10 wouldn’t really paint anyone as a worthwhile signing

Looks like he brings more offensively than Ugarte does, which would be good.

That's kind of what Mac Allister was painted as when Liverpool signed him, or at least why we didnt need him.

I was about to say... this all sounds very familiar!

Ha! Yes, it dawned on me as I was typing away there ..

To be fair, I think Fred would have been a very good buy at half the price (£50m wasn't it?), and despite how much we overpaid I always had a soft spot for him.

Ederson is also a better player for my money, though I don't watch much Italian football these days. I'd be all for it, but worry how far our budget would stretch if we're looking at moves like this.

We need to find some bargains desperately this summer!

Not only that, his defensive stats in the complete report are pretty bad... I don't know much about him but I am not sure, if I'd describe someone as well rounded when this is his defensive side.

Can somebody who watched him more than once give a few example of comparable players? (in terms of defensive contribution)

My thought exactly. At the right price, that seems like a very useful profile to bring in.

£50-60m probably.
feck... thats a lot though, isn't it? Will try to learn more about him but thats a pretty steep price, one I am not sure we can pay for such a midfielder at this point. His passing range is a bit limited is it? Fbref looks pretty good in terms of switches, which is important for us.
