There's an old thread on him but I figure a fresh one is a better idea.

The rumours are starting to spark again. Apparently he is the player Oliver Kay was referring to. And Miguel Delaney thinks it's possible he'll join this window.

Would you take him?

29 in a few weeks.

Only a short term solution at best. I wouldn't be too keen.

Maybe I'm just terribly unlucky when it comes to watching him but I don't think I've ever seen him have a particularly good game. That being said I guess most of the times I've seen him he's been playing on the wing.

Yep. Could be a repeat RVP moment but if longer term is the agenda then Lukaku and Kane should be the targets.

One of those players with a massive reputation but more often than not when I watch him, always ends up disappointing or bottling a chance. Previous quoted prices for him was something like €60m+ with massive wages - id say no thanks!

Hope the Cavani rumors becomes Gaitan MkII! Anyway, I thought Ibra was leaving and PSG would build around Cavani at CF

He is the type of striker we need and would be a great addition to our strike force, taking some of the pressure away from Martial and Rooney.

But in this team, getting this level of service, he's likely to suffer a similar fate to Falcao.

Always been a fan, works hard, can score goals but does miss some big chances. He can look like a donkey one minute but then score the next.

He's almost 30 now so I think this shouldn't be an option. Would have loved him here after he left Napoli though.

He'd get no service and it would probably mean either Herrera being dropped so Rooney could do nothing in midfield or Cavani on the wing so we could continue to have very little hold up play up front. Can't get excited for this move.

I think we are desperate enough to do it. Surely PSG can't ask for unreasonable money for a 29 year old. One think I will say is that he has immense work rate.

I've never actually heard of anyone that has witnessed him playing well. Literally everyone says "apparently he is really good but he plays shit every time I have watched him".

Do not really understand why many people dislike him. 44 goals in 81 while having to resign to his faith as a secondary player at PSG is commendable. Sure the league is not that competitive, but observing his three seasons at Napoli he managed to score 78 goals in 104 games. The guy is basically a 1:2 ratio player and surely he will be able to knock a few goals in the PL, with his physical approach aswell.

This goal

Like others have said, I have never seen him have a good game too. I have only watched him in big games though like in the champions league so it was against tougher opposition, still top players should be performing in these games.

I couldn't agree with this any more! I don't think I've ever seen him score a goal live. That said, I always thought Falcao-Good / Cavani-Bad and we saw how the first fella worked out. Cavani would probably come and win the Balon D'Or

He's a whiny prima donna who needs lots of chances to bag his goal tally, not clinical enough and too old, we already have 1 massively overpaid aging striker on our books, we don't need another.

Watched him a lot in Napoli and he seemed like the next best thing there. Some sublime performances by him. Of course Serie A was shit but still.
Haven't watched him at PSG apart from a few CL games.

I think he'll do alright, certainly better than Rooney (even if the latter has finally found his scoring boots)

This pretty much. He doesn't create goals out of nothing and whilst his scoring record is very good, he really is not what will solve our problems.

We do need numbers up top though, so I wouldn't be averse to getting him...

Who's seen him have a good game? He's just average every time.

What makes his numbers all the more impressive is the fact that Serie A and Ligue 1, although not as good as the PL, Liga or Bundesliga, are far more defensive leagues. The average amount of goals is far less, and these leagues' top scorers rarely score as many as those of the three above.

He's also played the vast majority of his games for PSG on the wing.

He somehow gets a shit load of chances, misses a shit load of chances but still scores a very decent amount of goals. We don't create much, so I don't know how it would work here.

Ibra's contract is up in the summer; if they sell Cavani now, they'll have to replace two of their first team players with their prime target Ronaldo unlikely to leave Real Madrid given their transfer ban. I can't see it personally.

He's not my first choice but I won't mind if he comes. We need attackers. He has decent pace, runs all day and scores goals.

Up until the last few years most people said they didnt see the big deal with Ibrahimovic.

If the fee is around 30M I'd take a gamble. It seems a lot, but I think our views of market values are probably out of date.

At this point, United could use a player who can score against Stoke, West Ham, Everton, etc.

United got RVP in form for £20m at roughly the same age. If they can get Cavani for around that price, it's definitely worth it.

In recent times, our go to subs when the team needs goals have been players like Depay, Fellaini, Lingard, and even Powell. Anyone turning their nose up at Cavani right now is nuts.

Would you rather have Cavani as an option in your squad? In United's case, hell yes.

Physically he's built for the Premier League. He's got pace and trickery and ability to get in behind. Whether he's got the mentality and drive to play in England is always the question for people of those talents, but having the option of Martial, Rooney, Mata, Cavani is loads better than Martial, Rooney, Mata and insert player here...steep drop off.

What's all that nonsense about 29 being too old ? Maybe for the teenage stars like Rooney or Ronaldo, who already played full seasons by the age of 16 and have never taken a break since, but the other 99% of footballers are in the middle of their prime by that age.

Most players at age 29 have 2-3 seasons left of their prime years left with little resale value, especially on high wages. There exceptions for sure, but most strikers aren't at their peak at 33 or 34 years old.

Regardless, United aren't going to make a business decision that will turn the club into Leeds. If they go over the top for Cavani, you know they can afford to. Paying over the odds for players sets a bad precedent for sure, but I like that the club are looking to flex their muscle to improve the squad.

If we were on the cusp of a major trophy this season I might just bring him in. But now that we're out of the running for the league trophy and out of the CL we should be looking for a player for the future, not an immediate quick fix.

How do you play Martial, Rooney and Cavani? With no players being able to consistently fill that right wing, I'd play all three together.
3 attackers like when we had Ronaldo, Tevez and Rooney. With Ronaldo playing more to the left and Rooney and Tevez just switching around and dropping deep from time to time.

Interesting read about the holy Trinity and how we played those 3.
