We currently have Fred, Mctominay, Matic, Pogba, Bruno and DVB for 3 midfield slots. We already have a situation where Matic barely plays, and Donny can't get many games.

Where does Camavinga fit into all of this? We surely need to ship 1 out if he's brought in. Would he go straight into the team or is he going to be a bit-part young player to begin with.
Matic is finished and Pogba will be leaving.

I don’t know at what stage of the season. Just that they were the first to predict it. More details in the Athletic article. An excerpt:

“The squad that finished second last season is projected to win eight fewer points in the next one, which gives them only a one in 80 chance of winning the Premier League title for the first time since 2013 and a likely finishing position of fourth, behind Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Says who? Says Real Analytics, a team of computer science and mathematics professors who have become football’s favourite soothsayers.

They were probably the first forecasting firm to spot Leicester would be champions in 2016 and they backed that up by predicting Chelsea would win in 2017, by seven points, and that Arsenal would finish outside the top four for the first time in 20 years.”
I think it was more that Spurs blew it in the run in but it is still impressive even if it was predicted that Leicester would have a really good season.

Greenwood has liked his latest Instagram post. Unless they share the same agent, why would they be liking each other's posts? :D

How would he been referred to by our nickname loving manager if he came here? He can’t be Eddy as that’s already taken and Camavingy doesn’t quite roll of the tongue :p
Carnivore? Carni4? Bone-crisher?
Carnival? Carna-Phil? Vinga? Fingers? I’ll get me coat, look at the time.

I think we are going all out for him once the Pogba to PSG deal is sorted. Could be a deadline day transfer, could be a week after Pogba goes, we don't know but i do think we will see him play in a United shirt very soon. He's not going to stay and wait to go to Madrid for free next year. The Rennes supporter here basically said that their club president confirms that, either they sell him now or signs an extension

Click the tweet and translate it. Their source is The Telegraph and it says Real won't move for him this summer, the player will wait and Real will get him in 2022 when he's free. So Real theoretically could end up with Mbappe, Pogba and Camavinga for free in 2022, crazy.
Add Goretzka to Mbappe, Pogba and Camavinga and you have the Ronaldo, Kaka, Alonso situation all over again.

There’s a very interesting article on the Athletic which explains how Real Analytics, probably the leading football analytic firm, predicts that Camavinga would be the single most influential signing in terms of point accumulation next season. For context, they predicted Leicester would win the title in 2016 and Chelsea in 2017, They use complex and advanced AI to model how his profile would affect our play, and they used it to model all the players we have been linked with. Camavinga comes out on top by far. Better even than Sancho.

I was very surprised by these findings but the firm has a lot of credibility. Signing all three of Varane, Sancho and Camavinga would be worth an extra 10pts they reckon. Signing no one and they had us gaining only 65pts next season.
I was surprised by the ‘mere’ 3-4 point increase gained from Sancho and Varane.

It did also get me thinking, though, whether clubs really are looking at around 25-30M per point the closer to the top of the table you get.

As what Rennes fans mentioned in here, he is a DM/CM but his best season was when he played as DM. I'm guessing Camavinga will take Matic's spot.

The reason why Matic barely plays is because he is no longer good enough or doesn't have the leg to start and rotate with Fred and McTominay. So imagine if we have someone who has the leg to play full 90 minutes. This is where Camavinga will get his games time as he has the leg to rotate with McTominay and Fred, they will be able to share games. Even more games time if Pogba leaves. He's probably at least as good as the current Bellingham at the moment which good enough for our regular or rotation player.

Did they really predict Leicester would win the title in 2016? I absolutely refused to believe that
they are talking about forecasting, so I'm guessing they got Leicester as champion early during their winning season, but not before it started.

It says on their website that they were the earliest to predict Leicester as champions and then that they predicted Chelsea the following year in January.

I'd say they might have said Leicester were going to win it in March or something. The website was only launched in 2018 so they can sort of say what they like about what they predicted before it.

Interesting analysis though. I'm sure there is some merit to it when you're dealing with data on that scale.

I am surprised adding Varane doesn't contribute a lot to this. I suppose our defensive record in open play has been quite well already but that's been achieved through more defensive tactics. If we can be more aggressive then that can allow us to score more goals with Varane in. Not sure if that has been taken into consideration.

I’m playing the if-you-had-to-pick-just-one-between-him-for-40M-or-Grealish-for-100M-game and finding it difficult.

If we could sell pereira/lingard/pogba for 75M and get both, Ole has his 433.

Grealish Bruno
Camavinga

Plus for the next two or three summers the spending can go back to 70M-ish net.

I’ve been thinking and it would seem to support the idea that many Caftards have advanced, which is that we’re actually relatively ‘fine’ in offense and defense and midfield is making them look worse than they actually are.

Pogba is leaving, Matic is finished at this level, DVB is probably out the door as soon as someone bids for him. McFred isn't good enough to start for a title challenging side.

We're not getting Camavinga anyway but we desperately need a midfielder, 2 when Pogba leaves.
Opinions on how shit our players are are irrelevant. Is Ole actually planning on shipping any of them out is the question? I've seen nothing in the media to suggest Matic and VDB are leaving.

Pogba is a possibility due to contract situation but its far from guaranteed at this point.

from their website

"we identified earlier than anyone that Leicester were favourites for the league title"

which honestly just sounds like horse-shit

unless they are somehow tracking what every other analyst in the world is doing/thinking

Broadly I also believe so and nothing is more important than upgrading midfield according to me, but at the same time, if we could upgrade one player in our offence+defence, it would be Lindelof. He is definitely a weak link.

Pogba possibly leaves but far from guaranteed.
I'd be very surprised if Matic plays a key role with United. He'll be fringe player at best.

Matic still has a lot to offer even at 33. He just cannot play three games a week anymore. Our best midfielder out of the trio of him/Scott/Fred. Just wish somehow we can spend 50M quid odd to make him 25 years old again

They made a prediction that if Leicester City go on to beat Man City they would go on to win the league but if man City didn't lose then they would pip Leicester City to the title and that was when 24 rounds were already played.

And then their super computer actually predicted a draw between them and predicted Man City to win the title based on their simulations for remaining games . So basically they didn't actually predict Leicester win without a caveat and actually made ManCity favourite according to their simulations and also underestimated Leicester's final tally as well and their favourite for the title Man City finished fourth.

So forgive me for taking their projections with large pinch of salt.

That's abit of a hyperbole, mate. Typical of the Caf assuming every player is finished after 30 and should retire
No its from watching him play, he really doesn't have the legs.

Never said he was finished but his level drops off considerably after 45mins. If he was such a major player then he'd have played a lot more and in big games.

Retirement was never mentioned only the assumption coming from you perhaps :smirk:

Clearly gotten Meling to help cover for the defensive output that Camavinga provides.
Also they will need to sell players to cover this extreme fee.

I think its fantasy to suggest we are getting rid of players, the only one who may possibly leave is Pogba and even that is up for debate. I think Pogba, Matic, Pereira and Lingard will all be here next year. Add in DvB, Bruno, and McFred I don't think we will see any move for Camavinga.

As far as Rennes not letting him go for free, I am not sure what they can do about it? If the lad decides to see out his contract what are they going to do?

Why keep him then if we make a new signing? We already can't give him games.

Please don't tell me we're keeping him round because he's old, sorry, "experienced". If they're not contributing anything on the pitch, get rid. Same should have been done with Mata.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's shipped off to Roma for a few mil at the end of the window

but we don't want to do that until the business is done and we know what we have exactly

Pretty sure Greenwood didn't like the photo.
100% he has, check it out yourself below. Camavinga has also liked a couple of Greenwoods pics.

Post that IG story!
See above. It's probably nothing more than two footballers liking watch other's social media posts. Just intriguing that there's no real connection between these 2 that's apparent to me. Have they possibly played against each other in underage national games?
