EFL Cup Final 2025 | Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool FT

I am delighted that Newcastle won

The media lovein with them & Howe has gone way over the top though - they aren’t exactly some plucky underdog they are bank rolled by a state.

I’m happy for Newcastle’s fans.

It’s a shame it took blood money to get there though. They’d probably be a Championship team without it. All conveniently forgotten by the media though.

Before the Saudi takeover, they were referred to as a 'sleeping giant' due to their huge fanbase. I can understand the media lovein for them in 2025 because a lot people have friends or family who are Newcastle fans (especially if they're from the north) and yesterday would've been one of the best days of their lives. If, in 15 years time, they do a Man City and cheat their way to 4 league titles in a row then I'm sure their will be a completely different narrative around them.

Newcastle finally winning some of sort of silverware was one of my main non-Blackburn related wishes in English football (sadly we're garbage and it's not fun continually venting about our owners).

I'm delighted for the fans of the club that I know. Many fanbases are incredibly loyal and Newcastle aren't alone there. Plus ye they have a big catchment area all to themselves, unlike clubs in the North West for example where they are so many clubs with rich histories in close proximity to each other. But still the fact that so many fans have passionately and loyally supported the club for so long, despite them previously not winning one single piece of major silverware during their lifetimes has been impressive.
Lovely and that, except it's come directly from being funded by a state. That aside it's a lovely romantic story.

And when we were in a position to potentially get rid of our equivalent, the media, social media, politicians, etc, thought it would be an 'outrage, selling our souls, and the death of English football', etc, if we were to be sold to equally wealthy owners with the same ethical concerns.

Yet it's apparently fine for City, Newcastle, potentially Spurs. And a real romantic, feel good story. Funny how we'd be 'selling our souls in a dark day for football', while the Newcastle fans have 'got their club back and it's a romantic, fairy tale story' when they inevitably start to win trophies. Such a different spin put on very similary problematic owners purchasing both clubs.

Almost as if a lot of the very different media approach with us was a concentrated effort to try to make sure we don't get wealthy middle east owners who'll deliver us trophies.
Agreed. There is no question that new ownership of any description will bring with it concern of some nature. My God look at Rangers and Craig Whyte, a Scot and supposed Rangers fan who was not fit to run a football club and put it out of business. And look at Leeds United going into administration under an Englishman Peter Ridsdale.
Of course new owners should be scrutinised. And yes the vast majority of fans just want the Glazers Out.. and yes you have to be careful what you wish for. But right now Ineos and Glazers means crippling debts and massive cuts and huge ticket price rises for kids.
Look at it another way if Radcliffe's vision was THIS before he came in and the prospect of running out of money by the end of the year (which by the way is spinning bull) then would so many fans have been so in favour of the billionaire Chelsea season ticket holder? That's a rhetorical question.
Bring back the Qataris.

Newcastle having a parade for the fecking league cup?!

I never want to hear talk of them being a “big club” ever again. For one big clubs don’t go 70 years without winning a trophy and secondly they certainly don’t hold parades for the fecking Carabao! Geordies eh!

Aye shouldn't be celebrating winning a trophy. When all that matters to fans is getting CL football and the money it generates then you have forgotten what football is about. Wish we had more parades, but obviously celebrating is just for the fans who can actually get a cup final ticket.

First trophy in 70 years and people are like "LOL how sad." If you cant celebrate winning a trophy, what's the point in watching it? Why do we even bother if we're encouraged to be robots chalking up wins like we're playing Uno.

I don’t understand why people hate this so much. It’s 70 years and it’s a trophy.

What is the point of football if we have cheats dominating and only the league and CL matter?

Let them have this.

Of course they should celebrate this. Winning trophies are how teams start getting better in every other competition. Give the players belief and all of a sudden they up their game in the league, Europe, and anywhere else. Teams and supporters that sneer at trophies and parades deserve what they get, which is no silverware.

So true. Parades add to the enjoyment.

It's perfectly fine, first trophy in 56 years and first domestic trophy in 70 years so basically most of their fans never experienced their team winning anything. Thought that parade would be at the end of the season though.

What is bit odd is how they had open bus parade in 1998 and 1999 after losing Fa Cup finals to Arsenal and United. 1998 is understandable to extent, but 1999 was second final lost in a row and holding a parade for it sounds stupid. Shearer talked about it being stupid as well.

Also Liverpool having a parade in 2006 as they won Fa Cup is another that's odd, especially as they won CL year before so it's not like they were going years without trophies.

I was watching the highlights on YouTube and Gary Neville completely ruins the moments when a goal is scored with his OHHHHH. So annoying, I want to hear the reaction of the crowd, not him shouting OHHHH. Even Drury pauses after a goal is scored. He's clearly doing it for the tiktok, social media clout

What is the actual point in being a fan if you can’t do something like a parade after 70 years of no trophies? The arrogance of some you lot

Saying that shite is as small time as when the Geordies do their “who’s that team we call United” posts. Mental how wound up you’re getting about it too. If the trophy doesn’t matter and is small time you’re certainly going about showing how little you care about it…

As soon as a saw footage of the parade I knew thread would be bumped.

Not many of us can imaging supporting a side who hasn’t won a trophy in their lifetime

I don’t have a problem with this tbh. There should be more parades if anything, I’m gutted we didn’t get one in 2008. Thanks rangers.

'Big Clubs' don't have parades for minor cups.

I googled to see if Swansea and Birmingham had parades for winning the league cup and apparently they did so I guess Newcastle aren't the first to do this.

5 years ago I'd have been pleased for them but considering they're now the richest team in the world and probably going to win the league sooner rather than later... feck em.

If Utd don’t win a trophy for the next 70 years they would 100% have a parade for winning the league cup. Context matters!

Deep down it must nag them that having waited this long to finally win a trophy that most rival fans won't see it as a great club getting what they deserve, but just a club winning a tainted trophy on behalf of Saudi Arabia.

I really don’t see what the issue is with a club having a parade after winning their first major trophy for 56 years, the first in the lifetimes of many of their fans (many of whom have supported the club very passionately over the years).

The criticisms that I’ve seen of this, including in my Facebook feed, have ‘over-zealous celebration police’ vibes.

When Conte's Chelsea won the Prem with a five at the back they had two wing backs in Alonso and Moses who were really attacking minded and two tens in Hazard and Pedro who could take players on and could play wide. And they had a beast of a striker in Diego Costa. None of which we have.
