El Hadji Malick Diouf

Very promising young player, tall, very goos left foot, powerfull , Good engine , very humble. On the down side not the fastest, first real season in a major league, seems better offensively. I am biaised as a senegalese but he is very promising and when he played against good wingers he did well most of the time in the national team.

He can cross the ball well, so/so defensively. Wouldn't want to be paying a lot for him, but he'd bring much needed crossing ability to that side.

Unless it's a player with a very high ceiling, I think I'd rather us give Dorgu a run at left back and see what he can do there. I'm not convinced Diouf really fits into that category

I really hope this is just paper talk, he’s awful.

He's not awful. He's just extremely raw, and I don't see him having a particularly high ceiling.

West Ham paid around £20m for him, so I imagine they would want a hefty enough fee.

Is he any good? I'm sure West Ham would charge us a lot of money either way if we were to go for both him and Mateus Fernandes.

Whoever we are signing for LB next should be to outright replace Shaw, not to provide competition to him. We have signed plenty of back up LBs over the years.

He can cross.

Aside from that he has seemed very error prone whenever I've watched him.

Some games he looks average at best. And then you can see some potential in other games.
Not sure if the risk is worth it. Especially for the price West Ham will ask for.

I watched one game early on this season where this guy was a machine, unstoppable. And I thought, wow, West Ham have found a player here. Then every time Ive seen him since, he's been bang average. So maybe there's a little bit of something there to work with, but I can't see him being first team standard.

For all the talk of the central midfield gaps, our pipeline at LB has been absolutely appalling since Shaw came in. Telles, Malacia essentially non-starters. Dorgu's probably not ever going to play there again. Academy-wise Williams and Amass nowhere near the progression we hoped for. Dalot, as ever, is either steady-Eddy or a total liability depending on what mood he's in.

Shaw's already barely able to play the attacking parts of the position, we should be looking for a guaranteed starter in this position and not another dice-roll on somebody who might, someday, get up to the level.

I guess I just don't see the point in this considering the fee WH would demand for a player so raw. For not too much more you could likely get someone far better.
I agree on the fee part. We seem absolutely hell bent on "prem-proven" where we can though, so I expect it to be the same this summer.

I would have thought so yeah. I suppose if West Ham were to go down though the picture might change a little.

My take on him as well, I like his attitude and he works hard, but he's pretty poor on the ball and defensively he's caught out of position a lot.

There is some raw talent there, but I don't think he's ever going to be good enough for a top team or a side aiming to win the league.

I remember that first game. Can't recall who it was against, mind, but I thought the same; this guy's unstoppable! He was having one of those 'just give him the ball' sort of games. I've not seen him since, which is probably a good thing based on the above.

I like him. He’s got the pace and energy of a full back in the body of a centre half. We do need to add height and physicality.

People need to remember he’s only 21, in his first season in England. He’s nailed down a starting spot in a top flight team. That’s no small ask at that age.

What’s his ceiling? Don’t know. Are his ears too weird? Possibly.

Although far from the ultimate LB, he is also far from "awful"

I watch plenty of West Ham's matches and he is often one of their better players. The lad has an incredible engine and covers the ground effortlessly, his drive and desire give off Dorgu vibes. From the left, he delivers decent crosses and could be a very useful weapon for somebody like Šeško to link up with. Defensively, he still has a lot to learn and sometimes, he gets himself out of trouble only due to his acceleration. In the air, he can be a force and is often used toward the back post at both ends of the pitch.

For me, he would be a very good add to the squad - he can spell Shaw and provide the squad with an energetic left sided defender who can put good crosses into the box. If United are not going after a marquee type signing at LB - which I doubt, particularly with the needs in other areas such as midfield - then Diouf would be a good target.

Good crosser of the ball. Aggressive, brave and quick. Also a unit. What's not to like?

Don't think West ham will sell unless it's silly money

Would be a very underwhelming signing. I don't see how he would be an improvement on Dorgu.

I like him and if West Ham go down I think we'd be daft not to take him along with Fernandes.

Lewis Hall is the one, cost aside.
He'd be ideal, but aren't Newcastle looking for around 60M for him. I just can't see us spending that on any position that isn't CM this summer.
