El Hadji Malick Diouf

He's another that's physically very imposing but not at all sure about his technique or his potential
His crossing is really good, maybe not that much his dribbling, but if we are looking for feeding Sesko, he has a nice early cross on him. Would prefer Hall anyway, but he's 60m+.

If Diouf is 25-30m, could be a good price, but I think we should aim a bit higher.

I've always been pretty impressed by him, especially his crossing technique - but West Ham fans really don't seem to rate him much which gives me pause.

Hall's obviously the standout LB talent in the league but I really like Truffert too and he'd presumably be a similar price to Diouf.

Hall isnt coming. Newcastle through and through. That's the reason he left Chelsea.

Can play either but has primarily been playing LB.
He’s a right footed fullback who’s more known for playing the majority of his career as RB.

If we’re gonna get a LB, get a LB, who is left footed so when he goes on the outside he can cross not cut back onto his other foot

Is he good in the air? Wonder if that's a consideration with Casemiro leaving.

He's not meant to be. He would be competition for Shaw at LB. Allowing Dorgu to be used at LW

Even if this would be the plan, we should be aiming higher than a young player with just a year of PL experience in a relegation fight. We need a more established and proven left-back option.

I agree on the fee part. We seem absolutely hell bent on "prem-proven" where we can though, so I expect it to be the same this summer.
Are we? Dorgu, Sesko and Lammens came from elsewhere. And a fair few of the other strikers we supposedly looked at weren't from the PL. Maybe only Delap was? Could be forgetting someone.

I feel like a serious 'prem-proven' obsession would've had us beating Newcastle to Wissa instead of our Ben.

Some games he looks average at best. And then you can see some potential in other games.
Not sure if the risk is worth it. Especially for the price West Ham will ask for.
Sure he’s strong and athletic, but just don’t think we’ve necessarily got the best players ,coaching staff or time to mentor and improve him at this point.

This Prem proven obsession is nonsense, seriously, any top coach or player should have watched the way PSG and Bayern play to realise how overrated the EPL is atm.

Man Utd, or any similar club, would be a terrible move for him at this stage.

He's still got Premier League 'L' plates on.

He is, as others say, blessed with pace and a good engine, about 6'0" , he defends the high ball to the back post well and is capable of some superb delivery from out wide.

He is a bit erratic at this stage though. For every top drawer cross , you might sit through three or four poor ones. If you had no patience with Wan-Bissaka, you probably won't with Diouf.

Word is the club have him on a deal that is very favourable to West Ham , and he's one that we may even hang onto if we drop.

Problem with Wan-Bissaka wasn't that his final ball was poor it was that he never tried one.

Couldn't we sign someone good, instead?
That’s what’s bugging me about most of the links; the players are so mediocre, and that’s in a poor PL season. It’s creating more of a rod for own back if we’re not looking at quality.

Hall
Kadiolugo
Treffert

From the PL. Slim pickings, unfortunately.

How's Kadioglu been this season? I remember him being linked to us one or two seasons ago where he looked really good for Fenerbahce and then disappeared completely for Brighton. Had completely forgotten about him.

I’ve really liked the look of him when I have watched them. Was tuning in for Baleba, but that became fruitless; stuck around for Kadioglu and Welbeck. Would get both in in a heartbeat if Hall’s not possible. Kadioglu can invert seamlessly as well as work the flank. Think he’ll be picked up by someone this summer if price is not prohibitive.

But all our first choices are PL. Dorgu seems to be the only one we directly went for as first choice. I think if the price wasn't Prohibitive, we probably would have got Watkins and Martinez. Certainly the latter.

It would just be nice if we picked up more Dorgus and Lammens' early, instead of waiting for all the prem options to be unworkable.

Apart from Bayern's front 3 were all prem players!

Thanks! Injury history looks a bit suspect, so would definitely pay a bit more to go all in on Hall.

If we're signing a left back, it should be someone we think can be our starting left back for years to come. Shaw is on his last legs, he doesn't need competition, he needs replacing.

There's a rare time and place for a "can do a job" type signing, but this isn't one.

Although far from the ultimate LB, he is also far from "awful"

I watch plenty of West Ham's matches and he is often one of their better players. The lad has an incredible engine and covers the ground effortlessly, his drive and desire give off Dorgu vibes. From the left, he delivers decent crosses and could be a very useful weapon for somebody like Šeško to link up with. Defensively, he still has a lot to learn and sometimes, he gets himself out of trouble only due to his acceleration. In the air, he can be a force and is often used toward the back post at both ends of the pitch.

For me, he would be a very good add to the squad - he can spell Shaw and provide the squad with an energetic left sided defender who can put good crosses into the box. If United are not going after a marquee type signing at LB - which I doubt, particularly with the needs in other areas such as midfield - then Diouf would be a good target.
Great post. He’s been excellent for West Ham, and would be a great option for us going deep in 4 competitions.

His delivery off the left is the best in the league already. Whipped in, with pace. Sesko would ejaculate.

We really need to make sure the next fullbacks we buy are attack minded like Hakimi and Nuno Mendes.

We've been linked with Samuel Dahl from Benfica. But buying a Swede from Benfica scares the hell out of me.

Something quite ironic about swedes becoming turnips in certain parts.

Hes a good young leftback with 5 assists in the premier league at 21 years old

No he isnt perfect. And we probably wont face elite clubs trying to sign him. But he can solve a position for us as we improve other areas of the team. He's better than Kerkez this season at least

So you think the team with the 8th worst defensive record and 3rd best attacking record needs to sacrifice defensively to add more to attack?

Clearly its important for any defender we sign to be good at defending. One luxury auxillery winger might work but at least one of our fullbacks needs to be good at stopping the opposition playing

In terms of number of assists, maybe. Not in terms of quality

He'd be ideal, but aren't Newcastle looking for around 60M for him. I just can't see us spending that on any position that isn't CM this summer.

I think they’d pay £60m for Hall, no more than that but a signing like that sorts you out for years and I’d assume he’d be the club’s first choice.

Compare Luke Shaw to Nuno Mendes and Hakimi. That's how far he is off what's required.

I hope we replace Shaw with the best possible LB this summer to compete with Dorgu.

It's clear many commenting haven't even seen him play. He plays probing passes to left wingers, can switch the ball with long passes. He's a good progressive passer and a very good crosser. He can also take set pieces.

There's not much NOT to like. 6 foot left back that is decent in the air too. I'd love us to sign him and he competes with Dorgu for LB.

He's better on the ball than Dorgu and less of a forceful runner. But the two of them could be very good for the first team line up and squad in more competitions next season. I vote to sign him if we can get him under 40m.

For all the talk of the central midfield gaps, our pipeline at LB has been absolutely appalling since Shaw came in. Telles, Malacia essentially non-starters. Dorgu's probably not ever going to play there again. Academy-wise Williams and Amass nowhere near the progression we hoped for. Dalot, as ever, is either steady-Eddy or a total liability depending on what mood he's in.

Shaw's already barely able to play the attacking parts of the position, we should be looking for a guaranteed starter in this position and not another dice-roll on somebody who might, someday, get up to the level.

Weirdly harsh and simply not true.

He was at Sheff Wed for half a season and widely considered one of their best players, winning their player of the month for Nov and Dec, then went to Norwich and immediately got a bad injury.

He's also 18.

We all know Lewis hall is the one but watch him go somewhere else and we sign someone like this for 35m, then spend the next 3 seasons complaining hes not good enough as Lewis hall rips it up elsewhere

Speak for yourself not everyone.

Lewis Hall has been in the Premier League longer than Diouf even though they're the same age. Yet Hall only managed to get one goal and one assist all season for Newcastle.

I'd definitely go for Diouf over him. Hall cost Newcastle a fair amount too so he would be expensive.
