Elliot Anderson | Athletic: United's main target

Anderson has 85% passing rate, while Case is on 81%. Not really a big jump on retaining.
That's not really all there is to it though. In games like Vs Everton we put our attacking players in bad situations by rushing into attacking and just mindlessly throwing the ball forward.

Id rather we didn’t become a laughing stock again and re sign a player for ridiculous money that we let go instead of develop.
I don’t buy that. We’d not be buying the same player; we’d be buying one with over 100 top flight appearances in his mid-20s. He’s developed into a very good player (at best a squad player for us, in my opinion), but he’d never have done that at United because he wouldn’t have played enough football to gain the experience he needed to develop. It’s not like we sold him last summer.

Assume that's Tolmie?

He's a moron and has proven to be wrong a lot of times before. But for what its worth, he has said that Baleba is coming to us too.
He also said the earth was the center of the solar system

Would you reject a 25 y.o. girl, just because you're dumping her when she was 15?

Well the people in the thread who don't want us to sign him may get their wish when he chooses City

I think we mixed the play. Sometimes we rushed it, sometimes we slowed it down. Probably to prevent Everton always committing too many players to attack.

All these young suitors are fading quite badly towards the end of the season. Too many games over too little time is doing a number on them.

Anderson doesn’t look like the player he did before Christmas rolled round.

Not sure I fancy taking Garner back. He’s looked decent for Everton in the way you’d think most of our “not good enough” players would look playing for a team with lower expectations.

Anderson is younger and already looks better. He’ll do for our midfield what Lammens did for GK.

I’ll take him over Garner for sure. Harder to decide between him and Wharton for me.

Wharton looked the part in first half, however would still need to bring in a Sangare/Agoume to provide some steel in there

Didn't see him today, but thought that he played well v Liverpool last week.

His defending is a bit poor but hes really good on the ball. I think he could be a worldie if he bulks up a bit.
The bulking up matters less if you can bring in someone alongside him who has that athleticism and height. Still believe this guy should be the number one target, however persuading him to pick us over City feels heck of a task.

Wharton is my pick if we manage a proper runner to pair with him (ala Baleba, but then you have two left footers which is a bit awkward). Wharton + Mainoo + Bruno as a three doesn't quite work for me.

Ultimately it hinges on what our plans for Mainoo are.

Man Utd Kone and Agoume would probably provide a better balance with Wharton then as right footers

Weve seen it with Kobbie, has worked incredibly hard on his physique and its paying off. I dont see Wharton as much better than Kobbie though. Id rather pair Kobbie with an athletic partner who can defend. If we can get Wharton as a 3rd option i would be over the moon though

We might get Wharton and a decent priced DM provided you aren't having to spend £100m on this guy alone

Honestly, I don't see how Garner cannot be held in the same regard. He played as a wide right player, akin to Pogba, and has become an excellent Premier League player.

I came to this Elliot thread after a while to see if there are any updates. Why do I see Garner and Wharton?

Garner was a bit of a late developer but he seems to be getting close to a top end number 6. If it wasnt a ridiculous price id be so happy to bring him home

We need 3 CMs. Casemiro is leaving and you would have to think Ugarte will be moved on.

So £100m on one single player is a lot. I could see us signing 3 players in the £60-70m range.

Yeah and that probably makes more sense

We should've gotten him before he signed that contract extension. Was in the final six months of his previous deal, so it would've been a free transfer this summer.

Didn't Everton have the option to extend for 1 year?

Regardless, if United were seriously interested in the manner they seem to be with Anderson, one would have thought they'd have been in Garner's ear already about a possible move.

The fact that Garner signed a new contract suggests to me that serious interest from United wasn't there, as he's basically priced himself out of a move.

There's no way he goes for 100m if they go down.

I think if Forest do go down, whoever buys him has to act before the World Cup. If England do well (I think theres a good chance they win it), and he's a starter his value will skyrocket.

That depends on whether there will be a bidding round, I think. If 3-4 teams all make offers for him it could rise above 100 rather quickly, even if they do go down.

53m or so was the record for a Championship side selling a player in Romeo Lavia. There's no way that's doubled.
