Elliot Anderson | City agree fee up to £130m

Has there been a good source from the Anderson side that his preference is City? I do see a lot of journalists reporting that he is City's main target, but what about the player?

Is there any reliable source for 'he wants to go to City'? Not saying he doesn't but I can''t be arsed with all made-up stuff around transfers.
Jack Gaughan very rarely gets it wrong with City related news. I'm sure he's reported a few times over the past months that Anderson is City bound.

Yes we get it. Same story every other day.
Wish we had one of him wanting to follow another fellow midfielder from Newcastle to the red side but alas

Spending 100m+ on one player might not be the worst thing big picture for us this window when multiple midfield signings are required though

Yeah absolutely spot on, I had deluded hopes Carrick could sell the geordie thing to him but realistically there's always been too much noise he goes to City

Thanks, I don't doubt you but I like to read what someone actually said. Things often seem to snowball from half a comment to various increasing 'linked withs' until they've become established fact, or non-fact if you will.

I love what i see from Anderson, but we are just not at the right place to invest 100+mil in one player. We have to spread the cash we have across the team, especially with at least an extra 8 games this coming season.

Yeah absolutely bang on the money

We should move to the next target. The last few windows we were able to complete a lot signings early in the window.

We are also very sensible now refusing to overpay in term of transfer fees and wages.

I guess the good news is there are lots of high potential midfielder available Fernandes, Ederson, Tonali, Wharton and etc.

I think the club likley already have. What will our budget be this summer? Maybe 200? Over half on one player isn't realistic. I suspect that INEOS have already moved on.

You don’t think that he’s more experienced at this level than Carrick?
He has more experience managing in the PL than Carrick but far more established?! I get some are annoyed by Carrick getting the full-time gig but Moresca isn’t exactly a sure thing either. He had a pretty expensive squad at Chelsea and wasn’t exactly lighting it up. He was fortunate to manage Leicester who backed him, which then helped with PL promotion. Some context and perspective is needed.

Maresca has managed nearly 5x more PL games than Carrick. Got a team promoted from The Championship, has managed in Italy and managed City's development team.

Besides, its not just about signing for a manager. Anderson, or any other player for that matter, only need to look at the squad that City have compared to United. They are far much further along that we are, regardless of them losing Pep.

If we add some depth, as well as some quality, this summer and maintain a top 4/5 finish, as well as a decent showing in the CL and cups, then we may be in a possition to sign the 100m+ player who may take us to the next level.

The very least we should do is to offer 100M and keep going up, just to make City spend more money of their oily money on him. Not that it will affect them and their budget in any way of course, but a little pointless twattery wouldn't go amiss.

How? Couple good seasons and now doing? 3 great players

I don't think any of them regret their moves to City

- Won trophies
- Worked with Guardiola
- Rich
- All three of them were part of successful teams
- Sterling and Foden had their best seasons of their career under Guardiola. Grealish won the treble and then decided to check out.

Sterling is washed now but he got the most out of his career by joining City. Foden has had a bad season but enjoyed some unbelievable personal and team success at City. Unless I'm misunderstanding the point being made, those transfers/players were very successful ones for City and for the players themselves. Grealish is the only grey area but even for him I don't think he would regret his time at City, if anything he is the one responsible for his decline in production.
They're certainly not cautionary tales for players not to join City, not even close!

I agree but then if we go and drop 80m on a far Inferior and older Tonali I would be furious.

So we can be mediocre in 4 competitions? We don’t even have a solid first 11 and people are talking about squad strength.

Squad strength is much needed. We have zero top quality full backs or defensive midfielders, one striker and question marks over pretty much every one of our CBs.

Spending over half of the budget on one player when, as you say, we don't have a solid first 11, or any cover, is just daft.

I get where you’re coming from, but we don’t have an actual 1st team partner for Mainoo currently. Anderson is definitely that. The other names mentioned so far, I just don’t personally agree with or see it. I do with Anderson.

If he chooses City or somewhere else for footballing reasons, fair enough. But we’re one of the biggest sports entities anywhere in the world, and we make money accordingly. Money should not be an obstacle to us ensuring we have the very best team we can.

If he really wants Mancity then we shouldn't pursue. We need to get players who want to play for us and not moving here for money. We have been doing this for past decade and it never works out.

Definitely have noticed many who say that we should only buy players who want to be here and fight for the short/badge in other threads until it’s regarding a player they like personally

We've heard nothing up until now regarding his interest in United while getting a steady stream of stories of City prioritizing him and being in touch with him along with Forrest wanting well over £100M for him. Isn't that typically exactly the sort of deal we've hoped to learn to stay away from in recent years?

A club like PSG only got over the hump and started dominating Europe once they stopped signing £100M players and instead focusing on bringing in hard working players who wanted to be there above all else.

Under Pep. Lets see if the success continues as it did in the past, also with 115 charges coming (eventually, maybe).
Not saying we are better or more established, but it is not like City is a no brainer currently

No, it's not a no brainer, but it's also not the head scratcher some United fans want it to be. Any argument you make for uncertainty at Coty is going to be leaning heavily on those 115 charges which clearly young players aren't bothered about, see the multiple signings they've made in the shadow of the pending charges.
The examples that @SirScholes gave were strange ones to try to make the point that young players "fizzle out" at City, and that was my secondary point.

Depends, none of them will be remembered as being greats (Foden has time)
Just cogs in a wheel
All had huge potential.
had a couple good seasons, I mean pep has gone now so it’s irrelevant but I’d of bank on the same thing happening to cherki

That and young talent seems to fizzle out after a couple seasons
That's just the norm in the Premier League. It's hardly unique to City.

Could you name even three examples of 'young talent' each from Liverpool/Chelsea/United/Tottenham that haven't 'fizzled out' in say the last 10 years?

And could you name an example of player from each who matches Sterling's City career (since he was used as an example)?

City's has been as good a bet for a youngster's career as anywhere else in England with actual silverware ambitions.

Mate, if we're going down that road, which young players have joined United and gone on to fulfill their potential? Let's say in the last decade? I don't feel like you're making a strong argument and it's evidently not so because talented young players are still queuing up to join City. It is a shit state of affairs and I don't like it, but there's no point pretending otherwise.

Kalvin Phillips doesn't support your argument either because he was just wank and promoted above his station, in the same way Chelsea can't really be blamed for Danny Drinkwater turning out to be clanking husk of a footballer.

Would need players that match that ability first of all
Which none of those teams have ?
Could give you historic cases ?
Liverpool with Gerrard Man Utd for about 10 players Chelsea with Terry Lampard, Spurs with Kane
I don’t think it’s the norm that players fizzle out before their thirties
