Elliot Anderson | City agree fee up to £130m

Mate, if we're going down that road, which young players have joined United and gone on to fulfill their potential? Let's say in the last decade? I don't feel like you're making a strong argument and it's evidently not so because talented young players are still queuing up to join City. It is a shit state of affairs and I don't like it, but there's no point pretending otherwise.

Kalvin Phillips doesn't support your argument either because he was just wank and promoted above his station, in the same way Chelsea can't really be blamed for Danny Drinkwater turning out to be clanking husk of a footballer.
Never said he did. I laughed at the idea he belongs in same convo although they did or he did wreck his career
Non have…maybe they should of and they’d not be going on loans to Feyenoord

I'd want us to give Anderson and Tchouameni quick time based deadlines to decide if they want to come to United.

If they agree we go and negotiate with Madrid and Forest to see if we can get deals done for £70m limit for Tchouameni and £90m limit for Anderson due to the English tax for him.

If either player doesn't make it clear they want to come we should move on to Baleba and Mateus Fernandes. I don't think we should wait a week for either first choice player if they don't make it abundantly clear we're their first choice club.

I'd rather go and get two players that really want to be here. If that's Baleba and Fernandes then we can get that done a lot quicker, and before other clubs buy players from Brighton or West Ham leaving them less needing to sell.

We need to learn from leaving the Antony from Ajax deal so long that they sold other players and could name their price and not budge. We need to act quickly for the CDM and CM positions.

Getting a big name or trying to convince them shouldn't be a focus for us this summer. We've had a very long time to convince players and agents so INEOS need to be in action asap to get this business done as the priority.

Left back, left wing, backup goalkeeper or another striker can all wait, or be delayed until we've sold players being replaced. Midfield needs addressing asap so they can have a full pre season as it's the key position we need to improve.

Squad strength is much needed. We have zero top quality full backs or defensive midfielders, one striker and question marks over pretty much every one of our CBs.

Spending over half of the budget on one player when, as you say, we don't have a solid first 11, or any cover, is just daft.
I doubt £100m is half of our budget and Anderson is by every metric the best midfielder we could buy this summer to slot in right next to Mainoo. If we then buy Ederson for under £40m and add a loanee, free agent or Lammens-esque smart signing we would be perfectly fine from a squad building perspective. Including having enough funds left over for a top class left back and a good backup striker.

He wants City so doesn't matter if we match their bid

Anderson to utd looking less and less likely now but I would prefer to spend 100m on him than eg 80m on Tonali.

I think he would be a special player at utd and a mainstay of our midfield for many years. I know we don't have unlimited budget but i think if we got him we could survive with just one more midfield signing this summer and use Mount, Bruno and academy players in rotation.

He would raise the quality of the first 11 immediately and he seems robust enough that he'd be available for most games.

Homegrown as well which is another box ticked.

I'm still holding out some hope that Anderson to city wont be done for a while yet. Forest would prefer to wait until after the world cup, expecting a good tournament to boost his value.

You'd also imagine that Anderson and his camp will at least wait for some of the summer to see if anything about the 115 charges is imminent before signing away a big chunk of his career.

I doubt Anderson has given City some exclusivity deal. At least there's nothing to suggest that that's the case. City are most likely ahead on this, because they have been in talks with his agent/reps since January and that gives them a leg up. They also seemingly haven't negotiated with Forest at all yet.

The question is what we're doing, which nobody really knows at present.

Preparing. To eventually reqch out to the agent

We should go all in for him and use the "115 card" against Anderson...
We probably wanted to go all in, however he has a priority for City so we just have to accept that and move on. The only way INEOS may have been prepared to bid £100m was IF he was only piece left in squad to win league but that clearly isn't the case so it's academic. I do admire people still holding out slim hopes he has change of heart though.

Surely it’s a massive risk for a top player to join City at the moment. Any agent pushing this lad in that direction is not doing his job. Verdict is surely coming this summer and it can’t end well for them.

Verdict surely coming this summer? How long have we heard that for. Its also likely to be some watered down nonsense

Chances are the sanctions against Man City would be pretty lenient.

I mean, ultimately, didn't they win against Uefa? (I know the lost initially, but their ban got overturned?)

And (probably irrelevant to most people's eyes), in Scotland, even after Rangers got relegated, they were still able to buy loads of the better Scottish players because they knew they would be able to get promoted back up really quickly.

Frankly, considering all the noise around this transfer, I think this is a lost cause.

Rangers are a massive club in Scotland though. Without cheating, City wouldn’t be a desirable destination for good players. They’re a very small club by premier league standards.

I think a lot of fans get too invested in the drama around transfers that are created by media, hence this desperation for "things to be done quickly" and "tell them give us a decision tomorrow or we move on". That is not how things in the world of football will work, with such big deals and big decisions to be made by many parties. That would be a surefire way to not get any top target.

Why should we only sign players who are weirdly desperate for United, but it is fine for City to sign a player who is not so desperate to sign for them that the deal is already wrapped. If we are after the same player and we are still involved then the player has kept them waiting as much as he has done us, so what is the issue? When you're on the dating scene, you don't just settle down with the one who acts the most keen on you and reject any other potential partners even if you actually like them more.

What does "acting quickly" mean in reality? Having every deal completed before the World Cup? These deals are not unilateral, it is not just up to us how long the deal takes and we don't have to "act quickly" because there is a transfer window, which hasn't even officially opened yet. What we need to do is make sure that we purchase the right players, for the right values and with the right amount of analysis. We have clearly been working on multiple options so that we can wrap things up pretty swiftly once they are agreed. The club will have set budgets for each player already and have more information on everything that potential deals may entail and all of the actual thoughts of the players involved and make a decision from an informed place, the rest is just media dramatisation.

Checking forums multiple times a day is going to make it seem like deals are taking ages and reading these repetitive daily "updates" about a player's thoughts are making people hysterical about nothing. Facts are the media members will have been told snippets like "we believe he prefers City" and then just keep repeating that because they haven't heard anything else. Meanwhile Elliot Anderson himself has not been calling reporters to speak about his thoughts, he will be thinking about his mother's passing, being with his family, his world cup call up, his cup semi with Forest and PL games, what does the future look like at City or United, etc. not rushing his decision so that internet dwellers can be happy or move on to the next player they want their club to sign.

Not sure. Expect at least a large points deduction. Unlikely that any titles will be stripped. Any verdict against them will likely tarnish the atmosphere around the club anyway, especially with Pep jumped ship.

I.

Well said. Feeding muppets tweets every day is the easiest, most productive income stream.

He’ll regret signing for City. He’ll go the way of Grealish and Kalvin Phillips.
Nah. Both were unmotivated booze hounds and drastically fell off when they started prioritising a social life, would've failed in any move. Anderson does not give that vibe at all.

I don’t think you win Anderson over by diminishing his City prospects. You’ve gotta sell him our own vision, where we can/will go as a club and what he can achieve at Utd

I don’t think any player is dumb enough to disregard the 115 outcome…minus Pep. They have lost significant pulling power themselves

I like this post, and it could be a very long summer for transfer muppets, I personally would rather we go for a player like Fernandes or Baleba, if they were more interested in playing for the club. Over a Anderson or Tchouameni who may be seeing us as a second best option.

Taking your marriage analogy, would you want your wife to really want to marry you, or would you want her to marry you because her first choice didn't want her?

With a long term view and big contract at play for our number one priority which is midfield, I want the one that wants to play at United more than someone who may be a slightly more developed player.

I get where you’re coming from, but we don’t have an actual 1st team partner for Mainoo currently. Anderson is definitely that. The other names mentioned so far, I just don’t personally agree with or see it. I do with Anderson.

If he chooses City or somewhere else for footballing reasons, fair enough. But we’re one of the biggest sports entities anywhere in the world, and we make money accordingly. Money should not be an obstacle to us ensuring we have the very best team we can.

I see Anderson, especially at the 100m+ price, as being the player that comes in to take a club from perenially 2nd to 1st.
In the same way as Arsenal did when they bought Rice. They were already set in the majority of positions and you were in "win now" mode. We are some way off that unfortunately.

If makes more sence for us to do bring in someone like Mateus Fernandes and Ederson and still have some change left to go towards other areas. People are talking about needing three CMs and there is a question mark next to the name of every defender at the club, I would say.

Lets say we throw 120m at Anderson and he gets injured for a couple of months. We would be royally fecked because we put all of our eggs into one basket.

We will see what our budget is, but last year it was around 150mil. The Sesko fee went on the credit card.

Rice was £103m and had 2 years left on his contract. Anderson has 3 left and you know Marinakis will try and squeeze every last penny out of the buyer.

I think Anderson would be north of the £115m that Chelsea paid for Caicedo.

If we then buy Ederson for under £40m and add a loanee, free agent or Lammens-esque smart signing we would be perfectly fine from a squad building perspective. Including having enough funds left over for a top class left back and a good backup striker.

So that would be 160, at least for Ederson and Anderson. A "top class left back" would be another 60, at least.

And this year, there wont be many sales coming in - Ugarte and Zirkzee will probably be loan to buys. I may be wrong, but i think we already spent the money that we knew would come in for Hojlund last year.

Yeah you are absolutely spot on, club probably did that and unfortunately still didn't convince him maybe bit like the Bellingham pitch in 2020

Let him go there if he wants to. We don’t have to beg players if they genuinely do not want to come here. There are always other players that we can buy and want to play for United.

Look at Cunha, Sesko and Mbeumo determination to come here, and even recently Ederson. These are the players we should sign. And i’m not even sure this bloke is a 100M player

I think many feel we haven't tried hard enough for him

Matues Fernandes reportedly give us the priority and wants to come here too

How well do you know Anderson?

If you can get Fernandes for just over half of the fee for this guy, and presumably much lower wages, I won’t be too upset about missing out.

The club has more than enough money to spend this summer. We even had about £70m on the side for Baleba last summer, or Semenyo in January. What I proposed should most likely be within reach. We just finished third, have Champions League money coming in, a new sponsor, Casemiro's enormous wage off the books and even some sellable assets. If we don't spend heavily this summer, we never will. Trying to do this on the cheap and without signing some of the very best players around, will make catching up with the two teams ahead of us nearly impossible. We don't have Fergie anymore, who was able to polish a Glazer'fied turd for several years without losing too much ground.

I mean who knows what will happen in the end. I speculated before, that Anderson might also not move at all. I doubt even City will go near him at Forest's £125m valuation. I also said Anderson's not worth anything too far north of £95-100m and even that is a reach. But in this market, if you want the best players, you have to pay through the nose sometimes. Just look at that Gordon-Barcelona deal. Daylight robbery, in my opinion.

You can’t give Grealish any credit for that. He hardly played any role in those trophies.
Pep actually used Grealish as quite an important tactical option that season IIRC. Was really good at relieving pressure and holding possession once City had taken the lead and opposition teams were trying to get back into the game.

Regardless, the fact he won a treble means it's doubtful he regrets signing for City, even if his later seasons were quite average.
