Elliot Anderson | City agree fee up to £130m

Then unfortunately that would give me cause for concern surrounding where we currently are as a club if we are no longer able to attract the “big players”.
We're a club who hasn't won the league for 13 years, champions league for 18 years. Since we last won the league, Leicester have won it, arsenal have won it, Chelsea and pool both won it twice, city won it 6 times. Theres pl players such as Anderson who probably have no memory of us ever winning a big trophy

And instead bring in inferior players because they are cheaper? We aren’t going to get closer to challenging by signing second tier players. We need elite players through the door.

These negotiations could go on for a while, who knows how long. We can go all in, and end up in a few weeks without the player and with several other targets lost. And if we know Anderson wants City anyway, then what's the points?

Yes, we need elite players, but it doesn't mean Anderson's our only option.

We just need to do our job. Wrap up Ederson and Fernandes, if Anderson becomes available and things with City fall through we can pounce on the opportunity.

We need 3 midfielders anyway as Ugarte needs to go too and Mount will be fit for about 7 games next season.

We can't go in to next season with just 2 new midfield signings even if Ugarte stays.

Tchoumeni isn't off the table. Public statement from clubs regarding transfers should never be taken at face value, especially not from Madrid. I've lost count of the times a club has said a player's not for sale only to sell them that same window. There likely won't be movement on a lot of the big transfer targets will after the WC when dominos will start falling. In the mean time we should try to get the likes of Ederson, Fernandes and Hall wrapped up as that'll strengthen our position when other players start moving later this summer.

Mitten seems to think he’s off the table, and he’s fairly well dialed into the club’s thought process.

Yeah that's my exact stance on this too

Transfer windows are notoriously unpredictable, and Real Madrid especially is a notoriously fickle club when it comes to transfers. Definitively ruling anything out at the beginning of June in a world cup year is a little silly. It probably won't happen, but far stranger things have happened.

Are these 100m players ever worth it? I'm sure City could spend 100m, have the signing be a flop and move on with life. For a normal club that has to actually generate revenues and not inflated sponsorship deals, the Casemiro transfer was something that took a good chunk out of our future budget.

For context these are all players that went > 80m: Neymar (PSG), Mbappe (PSG), Isak (Liverpool), Joao Felix, Enzo, Griezmann, Coutinho, Grealish, Wirtz, Rice, Caicedo, Lukaku (Chels), Dembele (Barcelona), Pogba, Bellingham, Hazard (RM), Ronaldo (Juve), Bale, Antony.

I'd say a decent number were mediocre and didn't deserve the 80m+ fee. Muppetry is fine but I'm more comfortable spreading bets around in the 50-60M range and normal wages. If we really get to the point that a WC signing is the difference between us competing for the title or not, then yeah sure let's splash out but for now I'm fine with just good players who are CL level.

60M is Cunha money. PL Club talisman, star attacker types can be had for that fee.

You have absolutely nailed it in that last paragraph about a signing being the final piece of puzzle which this guy isn't going to be for us much as I wish it was the case.

What have I missed? Can't find anything on him saying that.

Pretty sure he released a video on it yesterday or the day before. Ederson, Fernendes, and Scott were the main leads iirc. Believe he said Tchoumeni was happy in Madrid and didn’t want to leave (or something to that effect).

Yeah was along those lines, however need to concentrate on Fernandes deal and see what happens after World Cup

Off the top of my head, I couldn’t give you one. There is bound to be someone though, he hasn’t got such a unique skill set that makes him a one of a kind. If the scouts are doing their job properly, we have identified the type of player we want in Anderson, they need to be finishing alternatives to him.
Hilarious response because just a few posts ago you said we need to be targetting elite players only. But regardless of who we sign if it's not a marquee signing like Anderson or Tchouameni you'll say that they aren't elite. Surely you realize you're using circular reasoning or spreading negativity for the sake of it.

I think the Scott information may be a decoy to reduce our public interest in Anderson - basically a negotiating tactic to lower fee expectations when negotiating with Forest.

Correct. about 4:45 in.

I’d rather have a MF who wants to join us than Anderson who wants to join City. Ideally I’d love both but that’s not going to happen so let’s get MF wrapped up before someone steals him and we regret it

My response was more to the fact they aren’t looking at “marquee” signings.. or as I’d call it, elite signings. If City for whatever reason is his first choice then so be it, as you say there isn’t much we can do about that but we should then be on the lookout for a similar type of player.
Weird so arguably the best young midfielder whose stats and metrics don’t pale in comparison to Anderson in Fernandes is INEOS being a joke. Different profile in that he’s more deep lying (or has been played as such) but almost as effective.

Yeah in an ideal world he wanted Utd over City

By far the signing I would prefer this summer but it's good to see us learning from our mistakes with the likes of FDJ and not putting all eggs into one basket. We will be following our new mantra of securing the player before we go to the club. My guess is that securing the player has not worked as he prefers City so we don't take it any further. We need to focus on other targets if Anderson is set for City, which he seems.

I don't think that's definitive or anything we didn't know really. He said we like him, he's happy at Madrid, will be difficult to get him, if he does become available we'd like to sign him..

This was always going to be reliant on Madrid deciding to do a rebuild and Tchou being one of the ones sacrificed to make room/bring funds. It's still a long shot but still some chance something happens with Rodri which has a knock on effect.

We can, and we might. Even if Ugarte leaves.

I don’t think he was ever a realistic option. More so an aspirational choice of a small segment of fans. But who knows how all of this will play out in the coming weeks.

Brilliant player, but we simply can't afford him at the moment, we need a lot of players to raise the floor significantly, tying our hopes to a single player is just too limiting given our shortcomings and lack of depth.

United can’t miss out on yet another midfielder.

Missed out on Rice & Bellingham the last few years before their moves to their current clubs. Can’t miss out on yet another one.
He wants City so what can we do about that, nothing so just gotta accept it and not throw toys out of pram

Unfortunately we can't really be spending 105m+ on one player with more investments needed. We'll simply feck ourselves for the next transfer. Shame, he would probably be the perfect transfer if we only needed one midfielder.

We are just back in the CL, we don't have the funds. Fernandes is now our main target.
