We should remain interested and tell Forest we’ll match their asking price, whatever it is. At least make City pay the maximum possible. Having a clear run on the player will make it easier to negotiate a price down.

I mean as good as Anderson is if hes going for 120 give or take you can get Alex Scott and Matteus Fernandez for the same price. Look Anderson is clear the best but is he worth both of them I don't so. You might need to go 130 for both but I'd still consider it a better deal. I think those 3 you mentioned is a very good summer.

Agreed Anderson is currently the best but Fernandes is more than capable of being better than him in next couple of years and Scott isnt far behind in talent either , in the longer run getting both of them as you said should Prove to be better deal for Us .

I can forsee a scenario where we let City bid for him, once a bid is accepted we just outright match it and then try and convince him to come afterwards.

You may console yourself with this reasoning, but there’s no lose for the players; ride the cash cow until it collapses and then invoke whatever clause it is to jump ship, if it comes to it.
This. Same as how I felt with Liverpool growing up in the 90s and entering my teens in the 2000s. I'd heard about their historical period of dominance, but it felt very far in the past and I'd not witnessed any of it. I'm guessing that Liverpool fans back then were saying the same as we are now: we're the bigger club, still have the pull because of who we are, etc, when in reality our peak was decades ago and today's younger players weren't even born then.

I'm not sure I'd be okay with just Ederson and Anderson joining if it means that we go into the season with just 3 midfielders plus youth backup, not to mention Mateus Fernandes and Scott have also gone elsewhere (possibly Arsenal and Liverpool respectively).
I genuinely think we need 4 players for these two positions. If there's some way of getting Ederson, Anderson, and a third - yes we should be all over that - but I don't think that's financially realistic.

"Missed out" on Wirtz too. It's not as simple as high fee means success. Also the player does actually need to want to join us.

If it takes over 105m i'm not sure he's worth it to be honest. He's probably the best available option this summer but it kind of seems that most of his competition will cost about 80m or less. Its a very big premium to pay for a marginal improvement over Fernandes or Scott. If he was really enthusiastic about joining and pushing for the move above all others id be more enthusiastic in turn. As it is I'm kind of ok with missing out on him.

Problem is that if we bid 100+ for Anderson and dont get him, it tells West Ham they should hold out for more if we go in for Fernandes.
