Elliot Anderson

Yup Liverpool were dogshit for 20 years and still attracted players, you only need to show you are building something for people to care.

We are also still the bigger club, with a decent midfield we are a top 4 team

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we finished 4th this season. With a favourable run of injuries, I'm hopefully of champions league football next year.

"Dogshit"? Really?

They were finishing top 4 MOST years, with occasional 6th or 7th and the only 8th in 2011-2012. Not to mention that they came close to winning the league in that time AND actually won Champions League in 2005. They never fell as low as we did last year.

As to motivations of players joining us, I think them believing in us having a "project" is the least of it. So far the players that are coming to us are either
1. Childhood fans of United who have a dream to be part of our revival, despite all factual evidence against it
2. Skyrocketing their compensation compared to what they were making before
3. Coming to us because we were still the biggest club going for them, or the only club from EPL going for them. Some of these also hoped to get more game-time with us than with other options. Kinda worked-out for Yoro, not so much for Heaven.

Regarding Elliot Anderson... He looks great and we should sign him if we can get him for reasonable price ($50-$60M). Anything more than that is a huge gamble. He is playing very well, but so was Baleba. Anderson has not, yet, shown multi-season high performances to demand fees like 70, 80, 90+ million quids.
So you're saying players are coming to us for practically the same or similar reasons as to other clubs?

As for Liverpool the point wasnt if they will fall low as us but if they were relevant as before the 90s which they werent but still attracted players.
As for their position they were 8th 2 times and 7th about 3 times and they were close to the league title just once. United as much as in crisis still won things like Europa league and FA cup and were 2nd few times. It seems to me you're bigging up Liverpool and exaggerating our fall compared to them while the trajectory is a bit similar.

He went and followed a load of Man City players in the last 24 hours. Never a good sign. Weird to do it mid-season though!

He'd be a lovely signing but I can't see us beating City if their interest is genuine. Forest will be very difficult to deal with too.

Seems illogical. Why would a player close off their options like that?

Also, could just be his social media team being dumb, for all we know. Nothing's certain till the summer.

Not hard to believe he prefer City if he is given the choice.

Hope they get a transfer ban soon!

He'd be sensational for City annoyingly. Perfect Rodri replacement.

well if that’s true it’s certainly disappointing

Show's where we are at as a club but no doubt Anderson would fit in any midfield currently. I won't get my hopes up with any player just yet as we're so far off the summer.

I think most clubs will look at Anderson but he will have his choice and maybe thats a major rival, just hoping we take a major step forward next summer with our recruitment regardless.

Using one home game against Brighton isn't a good barometer. Against Liverpool, he had 35 touches. It's ironic that when he performed, Forest lost against Brighton; and when he didn't, Forest won against Liverpool.

Last season evaluation and how he progress this season, would be a more thorough one.
One thing for sure, he passed the eye test.

the question i'd pose to him....which team do you walk into the starting XI, City or United especially during a World Cup year?

you know Pep loves Rodri, Silva, Foden and Reijnders.....those 4 play centrally most of the time. Not taking into account they still have Nico and Kovacic let alone what he's done to the career of Phillips

Anderson would walk into our starting XI next to Casemiro or Bruno

He didn't perform against Liverpool? Did you watch the match?

He won’t be moving in January anyway. This will be a summer move.

The journo in question is actually awful. I'm now confident that City won't sign him.

But I do think Anderson is the one we should be prioritising, he's a fantastic player.
Totally agree. I hope that they do go for it and don’t try to cheap arse it with a less suitable player like Gallagher or Gomes

Gallagher and Gomes are nowhere near good enough if our aspirations are to challenge for the top honours. It would be a further waste of funds imo.

We need a potential game changer in midfield who has the ability in confined spaces and can evade and resist pressure as well as thread the lines vertically at a high level. And he if can also cover ground quickly out of possession, then that would be excellent. And it's very difficult to find that type of player and Anderson has all these qualities imo.

He is following around 10 City players though which another post eluded to.

Let's suppose Anderson ends up at a rival club and we miss out on him. Then okay, that's fine but we should then go out looking for midfielders with the criteria I've mentioned in my previous post, which would enable us to sign a player or players in midfield with similar attributes to Anderson. Then the data analytics can also help, because you've then got the blueprint to apply the data to. You have to know what you're looking for first, before data can be utilised effectively imo.

But I hope it's not a case of missing out on Anderson and signing Gomes from Wolves. That will just consolidate our tag as a team which punches way below our collective strength as a huge club.

Baleba will be our man and he is doing his bit by trying to bring the price down.
That is what I call commitment!

Gomes isn't a no8 though is he. I'd see Gomes as a no6. If we miss out on Anderson, then its a question of whether there is another no8 out there who we want or we change the pairing in midfield. We could play with two no6's, i.e. Ruben Neves and Baleba for example.

Or if we had the money and could pull it off, Wharton and Baleba

There are alot of options out there.

Gomes is a physically robust box to box midfielder. He's a similar profile of player to Baleba. Baleba imo has the bigger potential but would cost more.

Anderson for me is a hybrid and can be utilised both as a #6 and a #8 because he's so good at receiving the ball against the press and evading pressure and progressing it forward at a high level. The ability he has on the ball in combination with his progressive abilities as far as threading the lines from deeper make him a stand out midfielder for any team that wants to dominate and control games.

Stop gaps won't work.

Ideally we need 3 midfielders in the summer not 2.

I'd wager Casemiro is gone and Ugarte too. We should be in a European competition too.

So if Anderson if off the table, who would be your alternative who offers the same skillset as he does? (If you've already answered this, I've missed it earlier). Are there others of a similar age bracket who can do what he does with his consistency?

Who would forest sign to replace Anderson? Is that the player we should be targeting if we can't land Anderson ?

It's why I'd like us to sign someone like Ruben Neves as one of the cheaper signings, presuming the other two are very expensive. Neves brings experience of PL, good passing and ball rotation ability from deep midfield. Plus he's said to be around £15-17mil in January.

If the bigger fish can't be landed till the summer, get someone like Neves in for January and help that push to a European place (hopefully a CL spot).

I think in the winter window we actually need a front rotation option like a Semenyo, our issue is AFCON not the midfield in the winter.

I'd honestly move on Ugarte, Casemiro, Mainoo in the summer and reinvest in 3 top class midfielders

Only way we get 3 is if we cash in on either Bruno or Mainoo but yeah, would be great if we can sign at least a minimum of 2 quality midfielders but it’ll be expensive.
