Elliot Anderson

Only way we get 3 is if we cash in on either Bruno or Mainoo but yeah, would be great if we can sign at least a minimum of 2 quality midfielders but it’ll be expensive.

  1. Casemiros wages off the books
  2. A fee for Rashford (unsure if Barca will trigger the option)
  3. Hojlund (guaranteed pretty much on league position AFAIK)
  4. Zirkzee I feel will be moved on
  5. Ugarte I think will be sold
  6. Mainoo (I personally think he isn't what we need profile wise and he's pure profit)
I think we'll be spending around 200-220m on a midfield next summer (3 midfielders), and a rotation option up top for cover + a wingback.

We'll probably be in a European competition, Rashford + Hojlund will be shy of 90m, Zirkzee around 30m and Ugarte similar around 30m. I think we'll have 160m to spend before we even consider wages saved + the potential sale of Mainoo.

Next summer will be a big step forward in terms of the squad shape.

Sancho’s wage also off the books yeah. Possibly Maguire as well.

That would be an ideal summer window and strengthen all the right areas. I’m intrigued by someone like Semenyo (if he could be convinced to play LWB) because if the Amorim project doesn’t work out, he’d be an invaluable versatile winger in a 4-3-3 or whatever the next guy were to decide.

Also curious to see what happens with Bruno - especially if we signed 2-3 midfielders (assuming at least two for big money). There’ll be enough football with European competition (hopefully) but big players want to start the biggest games.

He won’t be moving in January anyway. This will be a summer move.
more than likely especially with Forest being in a relagation battle currently....that said, get the deal done and agreed in january if at all possible even if that means buying him and loaning him back to forest

You don’t buy a player for £70-100m and loan them back. Never going to happen.

I have a feeling that we will bring Garner back as an extra body in the midfield once we go for the first 2 primary midfield targets, like Anderson and Baleba/Wharton.

He has a year left on his contract.

Why on earth would be want to? He's firmly established now at Everton under Moyes. Isn't he scouser as well?

He will be a very cheap body addition, like 20m. If you want to go crazy on prime targets, you will need to be creative when creating depth. He won't have to move either I would assume. Whether he would like to move or not, not sure, but we should at least put it in front of him.

Barca want Rashford. He’s doing bombs for them. They just don’t want to pay. He isn’t worth his wages and a fee. If no one else comes in Rashford will no doubt only want Barca, why wouldn’t he. Our only option would be another loan. Not ideal for us but not the worst and Barca get another bargain year. They’ll be hoping to get him for nothing.

So if Anderson if off the table, who would be your alternative who offers the same skillset as he does? (If you've already answered this, I've missed it earlier). Are there others of a similar age bracket who can do what he does with his consistency?

Who would forest sign to replace Anderson? Is that the player we should be targeting if we can't land Anderson ?
I don't really know a alternative to Anderson because he seems quite complete as a midfielder for any coach or team that wants to implement a more proactive attacking system of play. And I think the key attributes for a midfielder in these systems is to have a high level of technical ability in possession as well as the ability to cover ground quickly out of possession in a higher defensive line, which allows you to remain compact as a team from back to front and creates favourable situations to press in packs from the front.

So with Anderson he ticks boxes as far as technical ability is concerned, where he's extremely adept at receiving the pass on the half turn, evading the press and threading the line vertically. But for me, what then makes him really stand out even further, is that he's extremely mobile on top of having the aforementioned attributes and covers ground extremely well. And he's the exact type of player that can be utilised in any system because he's a deep roaming play maker. So the stronger you're in midfield and at CB when it comes to technical ability and pace and athleticism, the better the team will be as far as playing a more proactive attacking game, which in-turn provides a strong platform for the front line to thrive.

I don't think we should buying players because they may be a target for another club. We should be buying players who are a tactical, technical and physical fit for a team that wants to play the game in the opponent's half by having the ability to play out from the back, implementing a higher line and pressing collectively from the front.

I like the look of him, but don't like the thought of paying the fee it would take to get him in. I don't see him as special enough in any department to justify the fee it would take to bring him in.

Hes going to cost a fortune but then again Rice cost a fortune, everyone thought it was too much and hes been invaluble to Arsenal pretty much since he signed.

(Not saying Anderson and Rice are similar players or should cost same amount).

Andersons going to (rightly) cost a fortune but I think he will be worth it.

So you're saying players are coming to us for practically the same or similar reasons as to other clubs?
Not **every** other club.

1, Many players would join City because they want to be part of winning and Pep squad. All other considerations secondary
2. Many players would join Bayern because it's almost-guaranteed trophies and Champions League
3. Virtually any player in the world will have their head turned if Barca or Real Madrid call, mostly because the legendary brands and what will feel like once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

We used to have these as motivations when Sir Alex managed us and we were winning every other EPL. Not anymore, obv

no that is out of the norm but if you're that concerned by him potentially going to another club in the summer, why not? have to think outside the box once in a while

Because Forest have no incentive to do that deal if they think there could be a larger bidding war in the summer.

Who realistically available is worth the fee required?

I think most people felt the same about Declan Rice but his fee doesn't really get mentioned much any more as if you're a good all round player it just get forgotten eventually.

The prices are crazy though.

Blame Chelsea for inflating the prices TWICE

My point is United is still an attractive club to join despite the fact we've been on a downhill.

Should we be worried by the fee? I could see him up in the Caicedo and Rice level and beyond. If that's the belief in our hiearchy, why not go all in in January. Get it sealed!
The guys who raise the floor of your team always cost a lot. Caicedo, Enzo, Rice etc have been worth the fee and are all floor raiders. Anderson gonna be around £100mil, but you can build a midfield around him for next ten years.

Can't see him moving till summer, it's essential we get CL I think to land him, or Europe as a minimum.

Just bid 120 mill in january. Go all in!

It is. Alas, often for wrong reasons (money), which explains the flip-flop merchants we have been signing

This is a non starter, we won’t be willing to pay the 100m odd fee it will take to get him and he’ll have better options. Best case scenario is we will qualify for the Europa but more likely it will be the Conference League or no European football next season and he can do better.

Seeing as the media are saying he's our top target, who knows. Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko joined without European football.

Besides who's the actual competition for him? City, Newcastle and Spurs?

Chelsea don't have the space in their midfield, nor do arsenal, nor do liverpool.

So if he comes to us then the midfield will be built around him.

I can see this transfer happening and we would pay the £100mil fee. We need two new elite central midfielders so we will probably have to do a Chelsea (Enzo and Caiceido) and buy two in one window.

Unless we buck up our ideas and play football young, talented professionals with options want to be a part of, the like of Anderson coming here is a pipe dream.

People sigh when he’s linked with City, but for most of his formative development, they have been top dogs paying more care and attention to midfield than any other club in the league. On top of that, they have the Pep X-factor; a manager players are eager and honoured to work under - this guy can get Anderson into his office and reel off some of the best midfielders of all-time he’s managed and improved. He can say he sees that for Anderson, and you may well have heart emojis where eyes should be. All top managers and clubs carry presence and a sense that this is a place to go to improve oneself and even prove oneself. Apart from a fat wage, there’s little about us that appeals over competitors unless the player in question is a fan of the club - Baleba seems to be just that, whilst there’s seemingly radio silence regarding Wharton and Anderson.

In an open market we have to at least offer excitement and a chance to be the hero who can awaken us from slumber. With Amorim at the helm, I don’t believe we have a believable big sell or project to buy into.

There’s no indication we’ll pay anything like 100m for one player, and that’s what it will take because there is a precedent with the fees paid for Rice and Caceido.

The media also say he is a top target for City and Liverpool, whether Chelsea have space is also kind of irrelevant as they sign players whether they have space or not.

He is going to have options the likes of Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko didn’t have. If City want him it’s a no brainer to go there over us even in the unlikely event we were willing to pay 100m or more for him.

City is the main one. Pretty sure they'll get him
