Every time I see people go to bat for him, I die a little inside.
I’ve gone in to bat for him before. Purely because I think it’s good that he’s contributed to accelerated EV adoption and generally helped keep a focus on climate change. Which is good. So I also die a little inside, each time he gives us another clue that he is in fact a massive twat.

Same here. I could defended him (and I still do) when it comes to tech developement and what he did to advance humanity in some fields. But I can't speak up anymore. God. He is a massive cnut

I was primarily thinking of the worshipers, those who will defend him from any and all, even the mildest, criticism.

I think that's more apt.

Through, but technology that might impact humanity positively. Imagine how big of a twat you have to be to give hope to humanity through your advances to still be considered a twat when you put it each side to the scale

Musk seems the bigger bellend but also doing more that will benefit us, possibly. At least Musk is taking risks. Bezos is just raking the money in while paying people peanuts.
I don't agree 100%

Musk had his dad and his emerald mine backing him up if something was about to fail. Bezos was middle class and has shaped the world taking risk at the beginning and the amazon concept that he created (I totally agree that is pornographic what he does to his employees)

Musk continues to move forward though. Bezos isn't doing much interesting outside the insane money rolling in. He did of course take risks like anyone when starting a business, but is he now? He obvs doesn't need to, but it's not really changing the world apart from making people want to consume more as soon as possible.

well, is what I am saying. Bezos risked once what musk never risked. Risking millions when you know you are backed up is not risking that much knowing you will have another(s) chance(s)

And Bezos had change the world with amazon much more than Musk. For good? that is debatable. That someone else would do it eventually? maybe. But it was him who changed how consumerism is done in the XXI century

I get what you're saying about the risk. He had more to lose initially.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Amazon. While it's certainly made things appear in your hands quicker, and 'disrupted the industry' somewhat, I'm not sure that really changes much. People use it because it's more convenient. A great business model, but not that much different to ordering it on a different website that takes a bit longer, and all the other online storefronts would've happened anyway. I'm about to sound like I'm licking Musk's arse, but he's quite probably brought real space exploration forward by a long way. He's certainly accelerated the electric vehicle industry. Two things that could have a massive effect on the world.

Well, currently I have any version of any product one click away and competing in price among them. Before I had to get what I could find in one store maybe 2...and after spending 1 hour of my time. Its a big change if you ask me

And no, you are not licking Musk ass and he is changing as well in a good way what where humanity is going. I get your point

i think the chiain of events starting with the end of the cold war, the defunding of nasa, the shuttle crash, political tensions with russia, the availability of pre-trained nasa engineers, and massive subsidies have as much or more to do with spacex and its success than musk.

Would it be around otherwise though?

You are totally missing out on how Amazon has totally redefined the IT industry through AWS as well.

You are licking Musk's arse, as usual haha. It sounds like you've no idea what Amazon does aside from the e-commerce site also.

I think the thing with Musk is to remember that what people achieve has absolutely nothing to do with how much of a cnut they are. Some of our greatest inventions and progressions have come from people who personality wise we wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

That's true, but Elon Musk didn't invent anything, and he didn't build anything, and he didn't even really come up with anything. He's a great entrepreneur, though. The world will still probably be a better place for SpaceX and Tesla to have existed, in the long run.

Oh shut up. I’ve literally not stopped slating him for years in here

Perhaps mention what Amazon do and we can have a nice discussion instead of being a whopper.

It's a right person at the right time type scenario. Without all of the things Berba mentioned, SpaceX likely doesn't get anywhere, or at least anywhere near where it is now. But Musk undoubtedly also had great intuition on the direction to go in and who to hire - Tom Mueller (the guy the heads the engine design) and Gwynne Shotwell (the person that's actually running SpaceX) both joined right at the beginning and are just as important (if not more so) to its success as he is. Whereas Bezos' own Blue Origin is more something that relies fundamentally on the owner's huge resources, which is probably why it also moves at its own glacial pace.

Equally, maybe look into what Amazon does before unequivocally stating it's a glorified corner shop?

Or just be sound considering this is a discussion board, not the place where Conor goes to be a dick about things that don't matter.

Interestingly I was talking to somebody who works quite high up at Argos the other day and he was saying that where Amazon beat all their competitors to a pulp is their logistics software and infrastructure. It makes sense as the website itself is quite dated, but if you have Prime you can see items routinely coming from Italy to your house in 24 to 48 hours. Multiply that by millions of items and that's a pretty sophisticated system.

He was saying that they've been trying to catch-up on the software side for 5 years and are still nowhere near being able to deliver that many items that quickly and probably won't be for another 5 years (and by that time Amazon will have progressed further).
