Emi Martinez

Is he unlikeable, or one of those 'he's your bastard' types? I remember being very pleased with him when I wanted Argentina to beat France. Yes he's nuts, but he seems to have the right mentality.

Please no. He gets away with it at Villa as he doesn't have the level of scrutiny he would do here. I'd rather have Barthez back.

He’s a quality keeper, not sure why so many on here would turn their nose up at him. If he’s available for a good price then why not.

So if we signed him he’d be banned for the first 3 league games right?
Denying a goal scoring opportunity is a 1 game ban. You only get 3 games for a red for violent conduct or serious foul play, so he’ll only be banned for the first game.

Looking at their forums, apparently would only be around 20/25 million for him.
Still would take him for that despite what many in here are saying about him. I have my doubts they would let him go for that figure.

One thing Martinez would likely give us is a bit more confidence in the backline. He isn't a shrinking violet unlike a lot of the current crop and I don't think he'd be intimidated by the pressure of playing for a big club like United.

That said, I don't see him taking us where we ultimately need to go. Nor do I think he would represent good value for money. If the idea is to go for a rebuild, we should do it properly and look for a steadier, long-term solution.

Not against it for a couple of seasons if the price isn't something daft like £40m but fear it will be. Personally don't see the harm in at least enquiring on that

Not sure why he'd leave Villa for Man Utd this offseason unless he wants a big raise and he's already overpaid in my opinion. He's good but he's not on Alisson's level yet he's paid the same.

The guy is an absolute bastad, which is probably something we need a bit more of, as well as actually being better than what we have.

A few tough characters to stop us crumbling the second we go a goal down.

You're not sure why a player would switch from Villa to Manchester United? They're not even in the champions league next year.

Think they'd ask for more than we're willing to pay so can't see it happening. Don't know why loads seem to have decided he's past it now though, you'd struggle to find any Villa fans who think that.

We need to prioritize a striker and a CM before a GK. Sort out our attack this summer completely. We can focus on defense and GK next summer.

They're still in EL, aren't they? I understand Man Utd is obviously a much bigger club with a lot of prestige but playing in Europe is important for a lot of players.

This has been debunked multiple times and most recently by Mbeumo who rejected not just a EL but a UCL club to be interested in moving to us.

This has nothing to do with being "debunked" It's not science. Most players if given the choice will pick a side who plays in CL or Europe, but it doesnt mean all players think this way.

Can’t disagree. I’d probably rather have a younger keeper in all honestly but I would definitely rather have him than any of our current keepers.

I don't think it makes sense going for him for the money Villa want.

Agreed. I dont think he is all that for 30/40m that Villa want.

We should be looking at a keeper around 20m mark.

Martinez will be suspended for first 3 games and he normally has 3/4 brain farts a season to go with it.

Not worth it.

From a footballing angle, moments of madness aside he is ironically a safe bet. Proven at the highest stage as a keeper. Does not crumble under pressure. Dominates his box and intimidates other players with his dark arts of goalkeeping. He is also the right age for a goalkeeper.

Correct.

For 20M it’d make more difference to us than any other 20M we could spend.

The people that don’t want him for that money….tou have watched Onana right? Martinez is better in every facet of the game. Don’t worry that he’s a bit of a bastard, when he’s signed he’s our bastard and all is forgiven

Only 1 game ban, it wasn’t for violent conduct

Combination of a few more errors this season and that head loss of a sending off at Old Trafford

Has this been stated officially? It looked like both violent conduct and DOGSO so did the ref say which offence the red card was applied for?
How is body checking someone violent conduct? If it wasn’t DOGSO it’d only be a yellow max.

I'd say we're very interested in Lammens, who'll come in and compete for the number 1 spot. He fits to wage and transfer fee profile we're supposedly looking for. Not someone to replace Onana and be on a large wage.
