Thought Stokes being back might inspire the England batting lineup.

That being said I haven’t been able to watch the game. Is the wicket a poor one or is it just bad batting/quality bowling?
Bad batting and brilliant bowling and fielding from what I saw.

Boult

Fast bowlers must cream themselves thinking of bowling in NZ. Great conditions for them.

Wonder if this will be enough to feck Bayliss off or whether he will announce that he's actually going to be leaving later than originally planned?

Broad and Anderson bowled well but you cant defend 58. Shame Stokes cant bowl as thst would allow Livingstone to play or perhaps he should play for Malan anyway.

Real lack of preparation by England, so out of touch with the cobditions.

Definitely needs some sort of refresh for the test team. They are in a rut.
A 'rut' is incredibly generous on Bayliss (and Strauss) they've been pretty much awful in red ball cricket since he took over – especially away from home.

Only one series win away (South Africa) since the win vs India in 2013 and were absolutely drubbed by India and Australia (despite the latter being a fairly ordinary side for my money still) in the past year or so.

I'm not convinced any genuine fix can happen whilst Strauss is director of cricket, but my god is it irritating watching the players make the same mistakes time and time again.

Fully agree, the performances have been shocking. I think England have been struggling to do the basics. The performances in India and Australia lacked any fight. The batting still lacks grit and outside of Anderson and Broad, the back up bowlers have been poor. Think we need to play a specialist spinner e.g Leach in the team rather than Ali who offers nothing wise. There also needs to be that injection of pace with hopefully Wood getting fit. I think Livingstone deserves a shot in the team as well.

New Zealand aren't really looking like a team who knows how to win test matches, here.

If the weather holds (forecast I saw looks good) I expect England will fold. If it does but they manage to hold NZ off - I thoroughly expect them to win the next match and would have mixed feelings about this given my desire for Bayliss and Strauss to go.

Strange decision to drop Woakes I think. Surely merits a spot over Overton.

With Stokes unlikely to bowl also it is a very strange decision to drop Woakes and Ali as that leaves England with quiet a long Tail Broad, Overton, Wood, Leach and Anderson

Beauty from Boult to get Cook. They’ve bowled some terrific stuff so far. Stoneman looks lost out there.

The amount of trouble De Grandehomme caused Vince bowling at about 2mph in that over

Bairstow gets his century and England have passed 300 (the latter largely due to some woeful short bowling from NZ this morning).

Anything more is a bonus for England. NZ need to get this over quick.

Is there anything better than listening to a test match on the radio at night

Just switched on to hear Broad grab one. Great stuff after a pretty average batting effort? Bairstow did well, as did Wood. Cook poor again.

Always TMS.

Think we have Agnew, Graeme Swann and Simon Mann in the mix
Quite like Swann, as an addition. His attempts at humour are generally awful but he's nerdy enough about the game to be interesting at times.

Great start from England with the ball, so far.

Another one!!!

Terrific review. I thought he got an inside edge on it but clearly not!
