England World Cup Discussion

Lets be fair, the defensive players he picked did the job in a difficult situation. It was certainly a lot more secure when Stones came on. They got through this one and even the 2nd goal was a striker giving away a penalty not a defensive error
Could be argued it wasn't a free kick for first either
Should have put Beasant on for penalties.
Yeah or Woods, not saying Germany wouldn’t have still won but should have at least tried it

I want James back as he's obviously a better player, but don't fancy him trying to keep up with Nusa all game with dodgy hamstrings.

It's one of those where you'd prefer Spence to play that side I think.
Very true, although I still prefer him facing Nusa to any of Endrick, Vini Jr or Rayan

Things stay like this we will never have a better chance of getting to world cup final again.

It's most certainly not a given, but objectively, if Egypt knock out Argentina, we will never have better opportunity of a final than this tournament.

Most probably get our cheeks clapped by France if England do get there.

Haaland will score against England but the English have more than enough to beat them an make the SFs against an Arg/Colombia.

England honestly have one foot in the final

Looking like it may be an Egypt or one of Sui or Colombia.

Like I said, England have one foot in the final as of now.

Saturday will be difficult, but it feels like this side is growing as the tournament goes on. It’s a big if, but if we can get past Norway I think we’ve great chance of making the final.

They beat an average team in tough conditions after scraping past DR Congo. Meh.

That’s not how football works though, is it! Why even bother with the tournament. Just announce no 1 side in the world as winners and be done with it.
Yep. No point in getting ahead of ourselves and thinking about semi. Norway is a very tough game. One at a time.

I was delighted with the Eng win and we showed some great qualities.

But to be a doomer (as I often am), we still have not put in a compete performance. The mexico game had an excuse with going down to 10, but the main worry is the lack of control. 2-0 and it should have been over. In general, we've been too open. Against, a real elite side, I still don't fancy us, at all.

They are, but England being the better team didn't really necessarily lead to them progressing in the past. One step after another

You also said Portugal would knock Spain out.

You were also wrong in this post too.

I’ll be seeing you fine gentlemen in the soon coming England WC final

I refuse to say that phrase unless we are leading the final with literally seconds left on the clock

There are several teams left that are actually hard to judge because of the relatively low quality of the opposition they have faced. Argentina most notably, but also England, who will face better opponents for the rest of the tournament than anything they've faced so far.

Incidentally Norway's on the other end of that scale - no other team remaining have faced four teams as good as Senegal, France, Ivory Coast and Brazil. And they beat three of them and fielded a pure B-squad losing against the fourth.

So talk of an easy path to the final is codswallop, in my opinion. That said, England are clearly favorites to win on Saturday, but not hugely so. I'd put it at about 60-40.

I think Norway might be the biggest obstacle on the way to the final. They are a coherent team with a generational scoring talent upfront. If we win on Saturday, we should overrun an ageing Argentina and neither Colombia nor Switzerland look anything special based on tonight’s tedium.

We have our own generational scoring talent upfront, thank you very much.

Yeah keeping him quiet is my biggest worry, maybe I will end up wishing we faced Brazil instead

So far England haven't really overrun anyone though. Not even Panama. So I struggle a little bit to see why they'd be likely to do that to the first really top notch opponent they meet, which Argentina would be.

Can see it being another high scorer.

Who in this England squad can man mark the 5hit of Haaland, Messi and Mbappe in their games? This seems the best possible opportunity for England to go the distance here. Buy a few Trump 5hit coins and he'll even put a word to his buddy Infantino and make the passage even easier.
