A joke, back to Spence it is.

When is James back?

Just as a curiosity, how many people know up there that England tried to invaded Argentina/Uruguay twice?
i was aware of some shambolic action in 1806(?). Britain later had such economic control that Argentina could almost have bern painted pink on the world map. But, as a country whose self-definition is its European ethnicity, there is an element of hypocrisy when Argentines bring up British colonialism (not aimed at your comment by the way).

Why is it a 2 match ban?

Means we'll be without him (and probably Rice and Bellingham when they're given nothing yellows) against Argentina if we get that far.

How curious.

Feck sake, we got Dick Turpin’s relatives. They are going to steal it from us.

Aww I can't stand this ref, we've had him a few times in Europe and always get shafted by him.

Exactly this. And think yellows for Bellingham and Kane are an absolute certainty.

It’s the very obvious yellows for Rice and Bellingham I’m most worried about. You just know they’ll sneeze and get booked. It all just feels a bit weird and dodgy.

It was a bad foul, but I think an increase in suspensions has only happened 3 times in World Cup history? - this is a chatgpt stat so take with pinch of salt.

FIFA is completely bent. I don’t understand why UEFA can’t make a power play. Without their teams, the WC in terms of the closing stages is basically Argentina (an impoverished country of 45m), maybe Brazil (who have been largely average for 20 years) and a couple of good African teams. Europe is also the wealthiest market in terms of TV rights. The tail is wagging the dog.

Don't see why they can't, all the money is in Europe right now. But even if they did, it'd be foolish to assume UEFA won't be almost if not just as bent as FIFA.

I think you have to give rationale for upgrading the ban.

My understanding was that the initial red card was given because it was reckless play but I don't think there was any malicious intent.

The assumption here is that they 've looked at that and decided Quansah intended to stud him, but his leg has clearly bounced off the ball. How does he do that deliberately?

Two games for a red card like this is pretty normal, no? Don't think it would raise any eyebrows if it wasn't for the Balogun corruption

Jude for all the great he has done, has been diving all over the pitch every match he tried a heroic and was dispossessed, not critizing, it's that it's not question of sneezing.

They would probably be worse. Even more advantages and reasons to consolidate international football into a stagnant entity without development.

Weather forecast for Miami at 5pm tomorrow says “feels like” 43 degrees Jesus

The winning team will probably have no energy left as the semi final already is on Wednesday. Crap. Low tempo game it is.

That's not the point the poster was making, but you may have missed it.

I thought he was thinking that refs will be leniant to show a yellow card to the smallest of offences regarding Jude, my bad if it isn't what was implied

I’m too lazy to check but I wonder which team of the remaining ones left have done the least travelling? Probably won’t matter too much but you never know

There is an Amnesty on the yellow cards after the quarter-finals isn’t there?

Yes, but it's to stop players getting banned from the final. If you get a second yellow in the QF, you miss the SF

Any England fan smelling a potential upset? I think Haaland, Sorloth, Nusa and Odegaard are going to have a lot of joy against your backline... It's going to be a riveting watch.

There's always potential for an upset, that's part of what makes sport entertaining.

But the fact is England are a much better team than Norway, so if England play well they'll almost certainly win.

I'd put it at 60-40 in favour of England, so a pretty big chance of an upset. With the heat it will probably be a slow game coming down to a few moments of individual quality, and both teams have players who can produce them.

Just read about that in todays newspaper:

England traveled by far the most of all teams with 21.000km.

Norway 12.000km in the meantime.

Dunno if someone traveled even less though, hope not as it would be totally absurd then. Not sure how it was in WCs before. Travelling almost twice as long as your opponent(s) is quite the disadvantage.
