England World Cup Discussion

Subs were fine I thought. Spence did very well, Rodgers set up the goal, Burn was very good last ten minutes.

He messed up at first moving Bellingham back, but at least rectified it.
Subs were terrible.

Bellingham was our best player, but then he moved him deeper, then forward and then deep again. Just use Mainoo and leave Bellingham where he was. Taking Gordon off was a mistake as we lacked any pace.

That Burn sub could have easily backfired, if they had scored as it would have left us light for penalties.

Mediocre performance.

England do have knack though of coming from behind in knock out games which is good trait for any side to have.

They have now won 6 of their last seven knock out games. Fallen behind in five of them.

Lots of energy on the bench and three of them were used today.

Disjointed midfield and likes of Madueke starting won't cut it v Argentina/Spain/France though.

Nope. Spence was good, Saka was good, Rodgers set up the goal. Burn was great in the last ten minutes, it's ridiculous saying it could backfire - any sub could. But in reality he did exactly what he was sent on to do and comfortably saw out the win.

Tuchel just said England were "lucky." Now having a go at Gabriel Clarke!

England are going to need a real goalkeeper at some point. Pickford is so underwhelming, it's unreal.

The team seems a bit knackered. If Argentina can get through in 90 minutes, you'd think that's a small advantage for them.

Jude proving he's a superstar
6 goals in the world cup is great especially with 4 in the knockouts.

Big time Jude

The defence is still an issue.
Rice / Anderson partnership is an issue.

Our players out wide are a problem too.

But another semi final. Two wins away

Think Bojan means the double sub at half time. England were terrible for all the second half, really rode their luck with the disallowed goal and the other one that hit the bar.

And then they play a song by a City supporter. Vomit inducing.

England used to be inconsistent but fun to watch. Now they are consistently boring.
A Mancunian song being blasted out and sung by everyone while we're on our way to the semi finals of a world cup. Very boring!

Oh come on. It’s not ridiculous to say that it could backfire because like I told you, if they had scored then it would have left us short for penalties.

Saka was average.

Good managers gamble. Burn was a gamble. I think Tuchel’s main mistake was his squad selection for the World Cup. Not having Trent or Maguire to call upon were major oversights

Saka was good when he came on I thought. Trouble is his fitness means he's very unlikely to last even 90 minutes. Will surely start though if it's Argentina.

Two unused games for Rashford now so looks like Tuchel has gone cold on him after his D.R Congo performance but again think he'll be needed for SF.

Feels like the Euros again. England disjointed and just doing enough and will get exposed in the final again.

Oh yeah, Eze didn't work at all in midfield, that was poor. But Tuchel did rectify it, and England eventually regained control once James ended up at RB.

Resilient, don't fancy playing 12 man ArgenFifa though, Messi being in the final will mean record TV ratings and ticket costs...

Good attitude from Tuchel, we should be controlling the game much better, not good enough. Even if went through. If make the final will lose for sure v Spain or France playing like that.

Absolute ass, but dives and bad reffing can take you all the way.

Could've easily been 2-1 down at that point so that was the lucky break and he knows that in his post match interview.

We were fun to watch under Southgate? Or Capello or Hodgson?

I’ve seen a few posts about English people not supporting England and it’s probably worth a wider discussion. I’m struggling to care much due to the lack of Utd players and the fact that I didn’t like the team selection. If that wasn’t enough though, Lee Dixon is single handedly making me ‘anyone but England’. How the feck is he still getting gigs? He’s so shit that you don’t even notice all the crap Matterface says. How is that possible.

Bellingham saying Nyland had a worldie. He made about three saves all game. England not creating much from open play again.

We were lucky Jude equalized just before HT. We created absolutely nothing in the second half and could have been 2-1 down.

Tuchel just said England were "lucky." Now having a go at Gabriel Clarke!
His detachment and critique is important for the nation; no raa raa and on to the next one, as it should be.

England's football has not been good and he's right to want them to tighten up.

We've got Angels on now, didn't realise they hired any bog standard wedding DJ from the UK for the World Cup

Pickford is half the reason for their results at the last now 5 tournaments. Got them past Mexico

3rd quarter. 4th quarter and extra time were fine

It seems a bit much to criticise him for a change that successfully saw the game out. I agree the Eze sub didn't work, and Rodgers made a difference thanks to an element of fortune. But the subs weren't bad on the whole. And he was basically forced into it by the illness of Rice.

I would have selected Mainoo as well, but he obviously doesn't trust him for whatever reason - maybe seems him too similar to Anderson.

True… perhaps it was a while since. Back to the Rooney days perhaps? Felt it was more attacking at least. Bow it’s so risk adverse and boring to watch. I think for many Norwegians, me included, England is like the second team (of course Scandi countries too), but this world cup for instance it had been a snooz fest.
