Why not offer Henderson an actual coaching role? Or does he not have the qualifications? So many players seemingly picked on character and not what they bring on the pitch is so bizarre.

The way Spence behaved with Frank not sure he is one picked for his character.
 
His job is to try and build a team to win the tournament. Presumably he has to consider that he needs players capable of playing the way he wants, the system he wants. You shouldn’t just pick whatever 23 players happen to be in the best form at the time the tournament arrives and hope they will be able to adapt to the way we want to play.

How many years did successive England managers mess things up trying to fit Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes into the team?

We all accept that was very costly for us and that we should have built a team around how we were going to play not based on obligation of fitting in players based on reputation or qualities they demonstrate at their own club.

Not picking team based overly on form, reputation or popularity is probably something we should hold fire on judgement on given that previous selections that saw square pegs placed in round holes precisely because they were based on form, reputation and popularity.

You don’t pick a team for the World Cup in the same way as you cast a Soccer Aid match, by trying to pick the most high profile names available. You do it based on selecting players you trust to deliver on the pitch what you want.

Some of these picks are utterly baffling. Stinks of Tuchel exerting his power and possibly ego over the squad and maybe trying to move along Southgate loyalists.

How Burns and Spence are going over other options is wild.
 


Terrible. Trent would walk into any other team and we are leaving him at home.
 
There are some omissions I don't agree with - namely Maguire and Trent but he's basically just trusting the players from the qualifiers. Most international managers do this and people lose their head over someone in good league form not making it in
 
Why are they dragging out the release, especially when the press pack have already got a hold of it? Is it embargoed?

Also does Henderson have something on people at the FA. There is zero reasoning to have him in the squad. The leadership/experience thing is bs espeically when you're dropping Maguire for Burn

I’m starting to not give a shit about England in this WC. Never felt that before in any pre-tournament build up.

I think we’re going to set up to nullify any half decent opposition first and hope we nick a goal (or play for pens on the KOs).

This is my view on it too, just picking what are generally agreed as the best players hasn’t worked in the past, so lets try picking players that can play the way he wants to play.
 
As baffling and mad as some of those decisions are, it has to be said that they mostly, seemingly, affect expected bench players. The first XI should still be more than fine.

Forest were in a relegation battle and Anderson was picked. I don’t think that should matter whether you are picked or not.
 
Few questions about the squad options but I do think the starting XI picks itself mostly.

For example, not picking Morgan Gibbs White doesn't really matter if Jude is playing every game, and Morgan Rogers, Eze can cover anyway... I would have liked to have seen Welbeck over Toney and Hall over Spence but again doesn't change the starting XI.

This is true but when the first 11 includes injury prone players (James, Saka) or even just players who've had really long seasons (Rice, Anderson) then its fair to question the decision to bring the likes of Spence, Madeuke and Jordon fecking Henderson.
 
Lewis Hall is the only one missing that I'd have starting.

Hard to get too flustered over back up defenders. I'd have picked Maguire instead of Burn and Shaw instead of Spence but that's about it.
 
I get he likes Spence for some reason or another but again, the Hall omission feels like the most obvious odd move.
 
So many strange decisions but Djed Spence over Hall has to be the biggest wtf decision.
 
I don’t see how we break down a low block with those options. Defence is also a concern.

True, I should have articulated myself better. I’m referring to the defenders i.e Spence
 
Maguire not being included is absurd. He should actually be starting, let alone be in the squad.

Shaw, I get, considering the other options (mental Lewis Hall isn't in it though).
 
I'll be honest, I'm not a big tuchel fan, I think he gets hyped up far too much and didn't want him here. There are some serious questions marks like taking Henderson and leaving out maguire/hall but I'm glad he has the balls to leave out the media darlings like foden, palmer and trent
