England World Cup Discussion

Wait so Lewis Hall wasn't even called up?

He is currently fit and playing for Newcastle, Livramento isn't. Hall also played a game for Newcastle at RB.

So left back is basically Nico O'Reilly who's had an excellent season for Man. City but cramps up late in games and only back up to him is Dan Burn?! Guess Spence can play LB aswell but he isn't top level either when you look at his general prem performances.

Some really weird calls by Tuchel across the positions. All England managers when they first come in talk a good game but seems the job just frazzles the mind as the month goes by.

I'd have taken Welbeck over Toney, feck I'd have my nan over Toney

English fans will soon be calling the Southgate era a golden era for England given what Tuchel's shown till now and this weird squad selection.

To be fair I think the only argument for Toney is that it's unlikely the 3rd choice striker is going to get on the pitch anyway so out of your options you'd pick one with penalties in mind

Very glad that we didn't end up getting Tuchel. He has constantly made such weird decisions throughout his career and always ended up with an unhappy squad.

I just don't understand certain omissions when he's including Toney, it just screams of trying to be different for the sake of it.

Taking half fit or players that have barely featured all season is also just an incredibly idiotic thing to do, that's plagued England managers (pre-Southgate) for donkeys years and this one is clearly no different.

But also Henderson.....for reasons.

Yep. Can already see the documentary in 5 years “2021 - The Summer it nearly came home”.

Gibbs White, Wharton, and to a lesser extent harry not going is just weird. Henderson going is weirder still. Toney going is proto weird.

Demented Sky Sports News presenters having a complete over reaction

And they’re ’Chief Correspondents’ somehow. Goodness knows how/why

‘Foden is brilliant. Generational talent’ but can’t get a game at City and they even admit he’s underwhelmed for England

Similar outrage for TAA and Palmer. One Chief Correspondent even claiming TAA has been ‘amazing’ for RM

How on earth they can hold these job titles when they can’t acknowledge all 3 simply don’t deserve to be anywhere near this squad

I hope Tuchel knows what he's doing, cause I sure as hell don't.

No natural left-back is crazy. Some of the other choices like Qansah, Spence, Henderson, Toney are very very debatable.

A lot of questionable picks, but Madueke must be one of the worst ones for me. How do you even justify picking him?
Lack of left footed wingers. Foden and Palmer not favoured out there and then Bowen has never looked any good for England either. He's lucky but he pretty much gets in as there is no depth in that position behind Saka

The only only i am really bothered about is Gibbs white.

Feels like one of the weakest England squads in recent history.
Starting eleven is fine but if anything happens (think Kane, Rice, Saka, James, Livramento) you are in trouble. MLS and MGW should be on that list. I think England are going out in the QF at best.

-----------------------------------Pope-------------------------------
Trent ------- Maguire ------------- Colwill ------------Hall
----------------------Garner ------- Wharton-------------------
Palmer/Bowen ---------------- Gibbs-White---------------- Foden/Barnes
---------------------------------DCL------------------------------------

That's without including Lewis-Skelly, Shaw, Tomori, Scott, Welbeck etc.

Defence is going to be very weak once in knock outs I think.

Reece James is a quality player. Started the cup final but then an unused sub v Spurs so that gives you indication of can he play two games in 4-5 days.

His main back up looks to be Livramento who hasn't played for Newcastle since 18th April. Beyond that it's moving a CB there.

At left back the options are O'Reilly (good but coming off his first full season so will probably be gassed), Burn (poor) and Spence (average).

Then at CB you have Stones potentially coming in if one of Konsa-Guehi pick ups a knock/suspension.

What a fecking idiot Tuchel is. He better win it otherwise I hope he gets pelters from the media.

What about Ebrechi Eze too? I don't rate him at all. But yeah, Madueke is a crazy decision.

I really can’t get my head around that decision. To me he’d be pushing to start never mind just be in the squad.
Tough on him to miss out. But he’s got some tough competition for his place…and I’d hazard a guess he’d be the next one in ahead of Foden and Palmer

I don't hate the squad, a few choices I'd have mad different. England's biggest issue will be conditions, like in Brazil.

We have the best striker in the world who appears to actually be fit and will have had a few weeks rest before the tournament starts for once. Our midfield is probably as good as anyone's, can only think of Portugal who can match it and they have to deal with Ronaldo.

We seem to have picked people who are prepared to run beyond kane for the wide positions rather than crabs like Palmer and foden which is what we need. Our defence isn't the best but it's at worst serviceable. James is excellent, Konsa and guehi aren't bad and O'Reilly has had a great end to the season too.

SKY is just clickbait. Sure they know what they’re doing and/or employ people who fit the bill

I really only have issue with Henderson getting the nod ahead of Gibbs-White

And maybe Hall, and Maguire as well

Stones has not started a game since October and Henderson has not played since the last internationals. Reece James is not reliable fitness wise.

It’s just baffling from Tuchel.

We might well win the WC who knows.

But I've long felt Tuchel is absolutely overrated, his CL win for Chelsea really overhyped his brand. He was shite for Bayern and is questionable at best with his squad building for this WC.

He's managed to destroy the tiny bit of excitement I had for the World Cup. Looking forward to getting knocked out by Mexico.

Spain have a better midfield.

When I look at what squad it just looks like the subs are basically inferior versions of the starting 11. Who is going to come on and change a game when the system doesn’t work?
