I do feel Maguire should've held fire on his Insta post. A Dan Burn twisted ankle this weekend would've meant he was on the plane if he'd keep his disappointment to himself and his friends/family.

I think when England don't do well, the manager gets buried anyway. Anything short of semis will surely be a burial.

I'm the same - we are fecked if we get injuries to key players though I suppose that applies to most teams but I do think he could have picked a squad with a bit better squad depth.
Colwill is probably ahead of Maguire in pecking order. Can see him getting call up if someone is injured in next few weeks. Probably would've been in the squad if he'd returned in April.
Part of that squad looks like they should be in the soccer aid team
If Dan Burn twists his ankle and the replacement called up is not Maguire, the victim of this won't be Maguire. It will be England.

I agree with your general point, but the example you're using — Gerrard, Lampard, and Scholes being fit into the same midfield — lasted for less than a month in the summer of 2004. And one manager, Eriksson.

Regardless of the squad this would happen anyway. You don't appoint Tuchel without raised expectations and he knows it. Looking at the draw, I think he has to reach the SFs at minimum. If group winners go as expected and no major surprises in the knock outs then it will be Brazil in the QF. That's where we got knocked out last time, to France, and I think the expectation will be to get at least one step further.

To be fair to Tuchel, fans have long asked coaches to pick a team that work well together, not just names.
Not including two goal threats of Gibbs White and Maguire (could sub him on if we're chasing a game) is utter madness. Especially as the squad isn't exactly over flowing in goal scorers.

What is our problem with full-backs? Why do we never take enough proper fullbacks? There are 2fkn6 spots in the squad, you don't need to take any utility players. So last time was an out of form Trippier and an injured Shaw for LB. This time we've got an attacking midfielder and a RB with a broken jaw to do LB.
I did laugh this morning at hearing TAA being described as the first name on the RM teamsheet. As with Maguire, he would add summat from the bench for when we need a goal, Special Teams for FKs and corners to stick 'em on Harry Header's forehead. James is in on merit although not fully up to speed yet after injury I imagine. Livramento a decent back-up, but I'd still have had TAA in as a great bench option, and also to rest James for the Panama game. He might not manage 6 or more full games without breaking down, if we can get that far. TAA in games that we're likely to face a low block makes all kinds of sense.

Tuchel has put himself right in the firing line with that squad, very strange.
Gibbs-White, Maguire and to some extent Welbeck, Garner should have qualms over not getting picked but otherwise, it looks like he had a first 11 in mind and picked everyone else based on what kind of back ups he wants in specific circumstances.

I’ve had a problem in the past with England managers trying to shoehorn their biggest “talents” in over creating a very solid squad that is actually suited to playing together. So I’ll give him props for ignoring all of that.
However I’m really unsure of what his deciding factors were with some of his picks. Obviously Maguire is a big talking point but I think it’s a huge oversight to leave him. I think he’s been the most consistent English CB this season. I can get leaving him out if he wants to play a high line or he prefers Konsa, but will he play a high line? You’ve also got Declan Rice who has been putting in pin point corners all season, surely there’s nobody better than Maguire to get on the end of them if we’re searching for a goal?

Am I the only one NOT complaining about Ivan Toney being in the squad? He should have had far more minutes in the last Euros, with the labouring Kane given more time off the pitch. He's quality, good all-round CF that we should have bought instead of letting him go to SA.

I mean that’s correct but people are struggling to understand where Madueke, Burn and Henderson work.
I can see why he was picked, it’s not an issue for me, just strange he wasn’t involved before under Tuchel and now suddenly picked.

Been in the Saudi league for 2 years and in the international wilderness for a year. It's a bizarre pick.
If the only reason he's being brought is for penalty taking then it puts a huge amount of pressure on him to do his one and only task. Being a good penalty taker should be an added bonus, not the sole reason.
I don't mind him as a player, he'll be used to warmer environments at the very least. What makes me question the decision is the lack of time he's featured for England. It just makes the friendly and competitive games utterly pointless if you throw all that knowledge away and pick a random. It's bizarre.
With this squad selection, I get the feeling he’s going to be hailed a fraud if they don’t get to the semi finals as a minimum.
The rest I can sort of understand, even Maguire's snub, but Henderson and Spence have no business being there.
