David Warner Disagrees.

Starc is trying to hard to force something, needs to be patient.

Did we ever find out what happened there? At the time I remember being baffled, as Root seemed the quiet type... I've become less convinced of this as time has passed.

Not at all convinced by Ballance, great record but he's struggling against the short and full ball it seems.
It's not Ballance I'm worried about - Bell needs replacing.

I'm pretty sure Warner accused Root of saying something racist. Whatever the case, he's playing amazing stuff right now. Dropping him in 0 could be a match/series defining moment.

Bairstow is waiting. The issue is he isn't a number four... Which means we'd be moving Root and it's rarely wise to move a guy who's in that form.

Haddin's had a hard job but hasn't been great today.

Who's the alternative?

He's been a fine player (who saved his best for England) but I can't help but feel this may have been one series too many.

Peter Nevill, Has been decent in the shield.

The drop though could be the killer for him.

Are you Aussies getting any of Ponting's commentary?

I'm liking him, so far.

What I would've expected. Knows his stuff but isn't arrogant. Just needs to gain a bit more confidence.

Nah he is contracted to another Aussie network so we dont get him.

We get Ian Healy instead

Starc looked less than happy about getting that one. I'm starting to think the Aussies may have arrived with over expectations.

This was always going to be a fight, with England having home advantage. We won the toss... we should be making runs.

Great day of cricket so far. Swung back and forth quite nicely... Here's hoping we can get past the 400 mark.

Expect more than that from him. He's a batsman who bowls well.
I know, but he's having a bit of a tough time at the moment.

Hope he continues to play how he's come out here, keep attacking. Liking this brand of cricket from England.

Warner says Root put a wig on his chin and he thought he was taking the piss out of Hashim Amla, something ridiculous like that, fecking massive leap of logic from Warner the tit.

So, basically, some people got pissed beyond their ability to comprehend shit... it ended badly. Some guy was stupid enough to through a punch and got punished?

I can buy that.

Names? I'm bored and curious.
Cook
Pieteresen
Trescothick (best ODI batsmen England have had)
Strauss
Root

Tough on Bell but I already think Root's surpassed him in ODI's, Bell has all the talent but he doesn't really have any innings that you can hold your hat on. He was great in the Ashes in 2011 but that's all I can remember. Honestly think in terms of pure talent Root is as good as any of them, maybe not as dazzling as Pietersen but definitely more reliable. Root still does have a lot to prove away from home (although he scored a great 50 on debut away in India) and we'll definitely find out a lot more about him in the next 18 months (Pakistan, South Africa, Australia all away soon IIRC) but I think he's the mustard. Can't remember many guys in an England shirt who have been as consistent as he has for the last 15 months.

Again I should add I've been watching since 1999 so I didn't get to see Stewart, Atherton, Hussain, Gooch, Gower etc. in their better days.

He is ruddy good twat, plays the Australian villain perfectly, I really like him as a player.

Fair list. You're right about Tres in ODI's (though I think Morgan should top him in time).

EDIT - Buttler too. He should be the best we've ever had by a distance.

I have really high hopes for Root, Stokes and Buttler. All perfect prototypical modern cricketers really. Read a theory about Buttler perhaps dropping the gloves a la De Villiers and Sangakarra to become a specialised middle order batsman and then have Bairstow or Billings come in as a wicket keeper. Might be worth thinking about in a few years, don't think I've seen an English player with hands like Buttler, sensational.

As an Irishman randomly switching channels, I just saw an Aussie bowler bowl an Englishman and jog past him putting his finger to his mouth as a celebration.
They were 330-6 or something. Yeah you're fantastic.
Is this lack of self awareness common in cricket? The batsmen should be shaking his hand for all the runs they've been given

The batsman was talking to the bowler before had so the Australian bowler gave the English batsman the polite way of saying the popular Australian phrase "Shut the feck up and feck off back to the pavilion you pommy cnut"

Send offs are a bit common.

Great day of cricket. You'd probably have to say Australia edged it overall, but we can still be very happy that Root wasn't out for a duck.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Jimmy is going to send the stumps flying

Nah, I reckon 400 is par, here. If they knock us over tomorrow morning they're looking good but if not they could regret it.

If we had Butler in at the end I'd say we'd edged it, but to lose Stokes & Butler pretty quickly, leaving an out of form Broad out in the middle... I don't know. It's close. With Stokes & Butler in, we could've been looking at 450+. Now, 400 would be great.

Warnie might still be in Vegas but that doesn't stop him getting a mention.

No, but i think the umpires can ask for their own review right?

Anyway, wouldnt be a match without Australia claiming something that isnt there :P
