Is anyone else’s BT Sport feed got really weird sound? The crowd noise seems too loud and the commentators seem too quiet.
This series is a total damp squib. England aren’t even able to push Australia at all, it’s just cruise control and very hard to see anything other than a whitewash for them.

Yeah and bonuses being linked to performance in Tests etc.
However good out white ball side is, I don’t think you can say English cricket is in a good state when we perform like this in one of the main events in the calendar, plus pretty poor home performances earlier in the year.
Test is still my favourite format and I think it will be a real shame if we just let it fall into the doldrums for a generation.

As in that is the only fix available - the batting choices are woeful there is no way to improve the side.

Is the ‘less investment in red ball cricket’ thing actually true? Relative to past years, I would assume England red ball teams are competitively funded if you compare red ball to red ball.
i know white ball cricket has more money flowing in with some of the new tournaments, but the ‘red ball cricket under funded’ seems a bit of a misleading argument given how rich ECB are compared to teams around the world.

Doesn't really matter how much ECB as a whole is funded, the best players are playing less and less red ball cricket, because the financial incentive is to play (and therefore train for) white ball. How many red ball games have Woakes, Wood, Malan, Bairstow and Buttler played in the last couple years?
Also worth noting that Root's spectacular Test form coincided with him dropping out of England's white ball teams. Anderson has been going from strength to strength since retiring from white ball.
There has been a chronic under investment in the county game for a while now. No plan on how to get talented county players to process into test players. Not sure what the ECB’s financial position is but the money hasn’t been invested back in the county game.
The introduction of the 100 shows where the priorities of the ECB are. The county game has to split into two halves to allow the 100 to take place. The fact England have a decent short form team in stark contrast to the test team is a result of the above.
Like the post above mentions, players are playing less red ball and more white ball cricket and it shows.
That is just diabolical, to go from having Strauss, Cook, KP, Trott, Bell and Root in the top 6 to this is an impressive fall off.
It's a bit humiliating for England at this stage.
