Been awful at ODIs for ages now. He wont last long in the role.
Easy to say it now he's scored a few but I would have considered sending Dawson in when Buttler was out. He's a solid player and this partnership could have set a platform for Curran and Jacks to come in and attack later in the innings.

The ODI team is absolutely abysmal. I can see India winning all 3 games here. England have no real concept of risk assessment and bat constantly like it's an extended t20. Constantly getting all out with overs to spare.
I wouldn't say the "team" is abysmal. Duckett and root in for salt and banton is a better side than the t20 side id argue.
Its your 2nd point that makes the difference and its the same in test cricket. They don't know how to pace the innings and do some real stupid stuff. They just need to go back to the basics, spend some time getting in. They are that good runs will come naturally then a big acceleration in the last 10 overs or whatever. Just simplify it for a bit.
Root scored at a run a ball today. You dont need to try and hit every ball to the boundry.
I am going by their performances rather than their potential. On paper these are all good batters and should do better but the team is 8th in the world and apart from the 2-1 win against Sri Lanka earlier this year we have barely won any games and constantly keep getting in 100/6 situations

The story broke in Australia and here's why: what's been revealed in here by Dan Brettig of The Age is that Baz had been reading the tea-leaves and realised he wouldn't be required for England's Test series in South Africa during the Christmas and new year period and had been ringing around asking if there was any commentary work available for him.
McCullum worked for free to air rights holder channel 7 when New Zealand last came here for the 2019-20 summer and may have wanted to know if something was available for him to provide a Kiwi perspective potentially alongside Katey Martin who also works with channel 7.
Tom Morris, who broke the story of Baz's sacking, is the chief cricket reporterfor the free to air broadcaster I suspect Baz is keen to work for this summer and was perhaps told of Baz ringing around asking about a commentary gig in Australia this summer.

His batting has been superb this season. If he were a few years younger he would be a strong candidate for this England side in all formats.
He'd be a reasonable short-term option to replace Stokes, even if it's just for the Pakistan series.
I think he's been a bit unlucky with the opportunities he had in the past, I remember a couple of good displays with the bat as well so he's shown capability with that side of things at test level even before stepping up this season.

It's frustrating. It's amazing when it comes off, but as a top order batter he has to pick and choose his moments a bit more.
Thing is, he's had a few years playing alongside Joe Root, and he should be looking at Root as a bit of a template to learn from, but there's no signs of him doing so. Not expecting him to replicate Root, but pick bits and pieces up from him, how to build an innings, temperament, match awareness etc. Because when Joe Root eventually retires, everyone will be looking to Brook as the next most senior middle order batsmen. He can't always play with the freedom to bash it everywhere, sometimes he needs to be the guy to anchor an innings and play with control.

It wasn't just the dismissal. He came in at 10/2 chasing 234 on a pitch & attack which was going to be pretty docile after 15 overs. He basically had 4 slogs and tried the scoop 3 times before getting out. It's just so frustrating when there is so much time and he just needed to bat 5 more overs there. He just shows zero ability to read situations & adapt to it.
No he seemed to hit it hard so no idea what he was doing, he should have just hit it for one. Very bizzare.
Good win for England but India collapsed there and lost the game because of it.

India had the whole field in the circle. It was the sensible thing to do, played a natural shot.

I would be surprised. I can understand Bayliss but Langer and the likes are so etched in my memory as people who played cricket to beat England.
