Been fantastic to see this thread largely be a Hundred free zone but I unfortunately also saw that.

While this is pretty poor behaviour, the fact that it made the main headline on the Daily Mail website yesterday ahead of some stories around the world is utter madness.
Name any sport and there will be someone up and down the country doing something of this nature every weekend, whether it's moving their golf ball for a better lie, potting/moving a pool ball with their hand while their opponent isn't looking etc.
It should really have been a matter simply for the local league, that it's become international news is a bit farcical.
I hope everyone that's so outraged remembers it next time someone (VAR matches excluded) on the football team they support cons the ref with a dive and they win the match with the resulting penalty.
Lengthy ban from the league but I'm not sure what it has to do with anyone outside the league?!

Have to agree with this. He'll rightly be punished for cheating but there's no need to ruin his life over it. Having his picture on the front page of the paper being "unmasked" is ridiculously over the top. Won't just affect him either, I think I saw it mentioned he had a kid so they'll be getting grief because of the coverage of it as well.
I don't think he deserves the kind of grief the media can throw about, but it takes some cnut to be doing it all season. That team's keeper had 4x more catches than the next

That’s quite a coup because Flemming has been very successful with the Super Kings franchises. He was a stalwart in county cricket as well during his career which is a good thing. Interesting appointment to say the least.
Hard to be enthused by any of it at the moment TBH
He hasn’t coached anything by white ball cricket. He was a great player but it’s certainly a concern in that respect.
I think he comes with a fine reputation and organizational skills. In footballing terms Flemming would be a name like Pep, or Ancelotti, etc. He’s been working with some of the best cricketers in the World, he’s obviously a coach that demands the respect in the dressing room. So I’d say this is quite a coup by the ECB.
Had a reputation as a great captain, managed a high profile team in the IPL for 20 years winning lots of things, has experience of county cricket and comes across as a great person. Does not have a red ball coaching career sure but independently each of these things add up I think.
I would have been very happy if he was made the Indian coach.
Dhoni is responsible 90% for the success we've had imo(and this is non-controversially accepted widely), but much has been said of the positive culture and Fleming's role in it. Chennai are a proper sports team - they know how to back players(without being over the top Crawley style), they know how to do the simple things right and let players take responsibility in the middle. Fleming will bring all of that.

Yeah I’m certainly not against the appointment, I know he has a great reputation as a white ball coach and was a great player. Interesting to see how he adapts with the English team and how they play. Certainly was a more traditional Test player when he played.

Very surprised by Root’s reappointment.
Root test record as captain suffered due to covid Era he isn't the worst option to stabilise things .
Underwhelmed by this to be honest. Fleming has been coaching exclusively in T20 for the best part of two decades, maybe he'll be able to transfer his success there to the red-ball game but it looks a big gamble on a 4 year contract which is presumably very well paid. To me, it seems too much like Key has just gone for McCullum's mate because he suddenly became available and they'll be able to work together without any issues.
And it's impossible to get even mildly excited about Root leading the side again. One of the greats as a player but to put it bluntly, we all know he's a shit captain. The only thing I can think of given Fleming's comments about looking forward to working with Brook is that he'll be making the tactical decisions with Root just the front for the media side.

Really feels a step backwards, going for a franchise coach, that granted did pretty well, but it's franchise cricket, not even the 4 day game, let alone the 5 day game.
Plus going back to Root as captain too, it's just destined to go tits up quickly.
I hope I am wrong, it just feels the old pals act is coming back again, so it'll be back to playing for team x to be selected.

Over 100 test matches he played, and was captain as well.
I'm broadly fine with the Fleming appointment for what it's worth - but that was a long time ago, and he has been a T20 only coach for a decade.
He was not our first choice, and I do wonder whether his relationship with Baz was seen as a positive to work with him in the white ball setup.
Playing over 100 tests has nothing to do with coaching ability though. Duncan Fletcher proved international experience counts for nothing whilst coaching the top levels.
Being a pure white ball franchise coach going to a Test only coach is huge.

Yep fully agree, just hope we can get some good performances by some of the players and there is some remote input by Fleming in some capacity.
Happy to give him a chance. Hope he can instill some value of your wicket's worth in the team.
I think the point is that not that he’s an inexperienced coach, but that he’s never coached a national test side. I’d argue that shouldn’t be such a big issue for a coach who as a player captained a test side for a significant amount of time.

I would not expect a great deal of change in the tempo we bat at. Ducket, Bethell, Brook, Smith will all play their natural games which is what Bazball may leave as a somewhat successful legacy.
What is potentially in the past is the mad dashes like we saw driven by Stokes in the last test.
