Kohli with one of the worst sessions of captaincy I've seen. Dhoni like. And Ashwin with one of the worst sessions of bowling you'll see.

Butler gone, India right back in now. Would back Kohli lead performance to chase down under 250

Has the pitch eased up or something?

Had a horrible feeling Rashid was going to get out there.

Anyway never mind, England still in a good position. Hopefully get to a lead of 270 - that will be very hard to chase.

India were very poor with the second new ball.

The pitch was pretty good to bat on tbh , England should have made 300+ in the second innings . Think this is 50-50 right now

Curran and butler just play free. Why can't the top order do that. They play scared

Don't think it's that simple tbh. Indian openers bat freely but even they haven't managed a 50. Bairstow was aggressive and ended up looking like a mug . It's a combination of tough conditions, fresh bowlers ,bad form and pressure that is leading to top order failures

Seems that way, the ball was hardly doing anything, if the pitch stays like that England will have a tough job getting Pujara and Kohli out
Don’t know if it was the pitch and more the overhead conditions. Pitch isn’t going to get easier to bat on, was turning more. This will already be a hard amount to chase. Hopefully England can push on and get more runs on the board

If it swings again then will be really difficult

I think the opposite.

No one is willing to grind out an innings anymore and a lot of the dismissals are too loose almost one day shots.

Most of the top order would make runs at 6 or 7, it is nowhere near as challenging mentally or technically which is why players like Bairstow and Moeen aren't capable of batting higher up the order (and neither would Buttler).

Huuuuuuuge day for us. Need two wickets as early as possible and we'll have to bat our hearts out to chase this total.

Well that was dreadful
I cannot believe how sloppy and moronic we've been all series. It's incredible.

Stupid run outs, stupid failed reviews, dropped catches, losing wickets at the worst possible time to terrible shots.

It's a miracle we're in with a chance of winning the series.

Watch Broad and Anderson bowl too short now and waste the new ball

Yeah said the same yesterday. All the signs suggest poor coaching and leadership, at least in tests.

We're playing at home and have won every toss. We should be out of sight, not clinging on.

I'd get a new test coach for the winter whatever happens.

Yeah definitely. I'm not even sure what Bayliss does anyway, he just seems to sit there. He's got a great easy life.

We need a new batting coach, it's clear as day we can't bat in test conditions. It's gone on too long now, contstantly being 30 for 3 or 5 or 6 down before we reach 100. It's a mess.

In this innings alone we've had two run outs and lost wickets to the last ball before lunch, the first ball after lunch, the last ball of the day and then the first ball of the next day. Moronic.

Last 3 wickets fell down for 12 runs. Good stuff by us.

Thing is we hired Bayliss after the last World Cup to improve our white ball cricket and he's definitely done that. It's a bit like Woodward at United - he's great at half his job, poor at the other half.

We should be looking at specialist test coaches and, as you say, changing the batting coach. Our totals under the tutelage of Ramprakash have been pretty awful.

If these two can fight through to about 20 overs or so I reckon India have a great chance. Rahul delivery aside the pitch isn't misbehaving massively and it will get easier to bat as the ball gets older.
