I’d hope that’s why they’re offering him the contract

He's a good defender when fit, sadly that doesn't happen often. His injury record is not going to suddenly improve after 5 years and only 100 games played. We need solid players that we can rely on, sadly injury prone players are of no use no matter how good they are.

People need to appreciate Maguire more just based on the fact that he has been available for every single game since he signed for us.

A far cry from the sicknote defenders we've had over the years.

Honestly, when he's fit he's much better than Lindelof. Yet it's Lindelof who's always first choice. I can understand his frustrations.

Does he have no shame? After getting wages without being available for a huge chunk of his time at United, he wants to get guaranteed football? Well if the manager could rely on him to be available for most of the season, I am sure he would have been a first choice.

We all love United
Those quotes are like Herrera prior to him leaving the club, except far from being a sicknote like Bailly. Hypocritical

His frustrations? He's a sick note that can't stay fit consistently enough to challenge Lindelof. It's been 4 seasons of more or less the same thing. Let him leave. We've been lucky Lindelof and Maguire have been fit, since our backup (Eric) needs a backup himself.

Lindelof is consistently fit and you need that continuity in the backline. Lindelof is the better defender imo but it doesnt even matter when the other guy is barely fit once a month.

Spot on. Maguires appearance record alone justifies the fee, when combined with the fact that he probably is the best English defender!

Said it was a mistake offering him a new contract, think it's even more of a mistake now we've heard this, same reason giving Phil Jones a contract was a mistake. There's just no point having a player who only plays 10 games a season.

If he could stay fit he'd play more. He can't be trusted, he will never be trusted long term. Having one of his mates saying this sort of shite in the media won't do him any favours, not being made of glass would indeed help his career though.

What utter nonsense, there are other CBs who have been fit all season who would have cost far less

Seriously sick of all these relatives, friends, agents and whatnot of these players acting as if these players are doing United a favour by spending their precious time at the club. Especially players who have been leeching off the club for the past 5 years.

100 fecking games in 5 years because your body is made of glass. Don't let the door hit you on the way out sunshine.

No he is not. When he is fit he is a liability more often than not and very rash

Barely fit and barely good enough when fit. Good luck in your future endeavours at whichever Ligue 1 team will take you.

Your bones are made from polystyrene Eric... we aren't rewarding that by building our defence around you bud.

If he could butch up a bit and run some of these knocks off instead of wilting like a petal every time somebody stands on his toes then perhaps he would get the nod instead of Lindelof.

In fairness to Lindelof he's playing through injury and you can tell whilst he's not the best he's desperate to secure that spot next to Maguire, we all know he will be replaced but it's the right attitude. I dunno, some players just seem to like to take a few weeks to recover from minor knocks.

Cmon, he's ironed out a lot of that rashness and is much more assured as a defender than he was a few years ago. Maybe it is for the best that he leaves, but Bailly's weaknesses are no more pronounced than Lindelof's, who has been massively inconsistent this season (and for his entire career here). Bailly has been too, but his top level performances have been higher. He's just never been able to properly get going due to his glacial bone structure.

We concede more goals per game with Maguire Bailly then Maguire Lindelof. Even though the latter play in more difficult games. Yet Bailly is apparently better. He also has not ironed out his rashness

He’s better than Lindelof but yes, far too injury-prone. Ole definitely tends towards players than aren’t made of glass.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of Maguire but his fitness record alone makes him valuable. A competent CB who is literally always available - as long as he doesn't punch random Greeks - is a nice thing to have after our experiences with Rojo, Jones, Bailly and the like.

We don't even know, and will never know how Bailly would do over a whole season, he'll never be fit enough to achieve even half of what Maguire has done appearance wise in a season.
