Neville is a cnut but to be fair where's the lie there? Players and managers should think twice about signing for Manchester United these days.

Think the issue with Neville is, he never speaks like this about any other player or manager joining another club, always a good appointment, would love to see his comments on klopp going to liverpool when they were in a way worse nick than us,, no issues Conte going to Chelsea when they were down the table 10th think it was, no issues when he went to spurs there down the table too, bigging it up actually as a masterstroke they got a winner, think he even bigged up Jose going to spurs too, same talk........when we trying to do it, it's doom and gloom, absolute shite like beek be on the phone to hag and Rangnick too on the blower self sabotaging what his role going to be by telling him here don't be coming here.

you got him and half the Caf in complete self loathing stage of why would anyone want to come here, it just isn't adding up.

Almost like it's a hindrance when we dare try to bring in new pieces to improve us......nah avoid them they a total shitshow. Pathetic to be honest this train of thought.

Now if you on the WUM, then that's ok it would make sense

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Neville only told Ten Hag something in the sense that he said something out loud when asked. He didn't get on the blower. They weren't discussing United over a beer.

And, more to the point, who wouldn't call it a risky decision based on the situation the next manager will inherit?
Genuinely think it’s the perfect time to take over. Shit loads of player contracts are up, the squad has massively underachieved and on lowest ebb, there will be big investment as usual, a new footballing structure desperate to make an impact, club under intense scrutiny from fans desperate to get some success, lots of talented youth coming through and little expectation next season outside of some visible progress throughout the year. A real chance to make a mark over time at a massive club in the most competitive league around against his idol building himself a legacy. If he has confidence in himself as a top manager it’s an incredible opportunity. He’s not looking at how shit this team was at Everton - it’s irrelevant.

It’s not really his job to help our cause, through, is it? He might be a fan but cheerleading doesn’t achieve much beyond eroding his credibility. On paper, far more qualified managers than ETH have wilted at United.
He's hardly objective either though. He moved heaven and earth to try and absolve Ole as manager when it was clear he was hopelessly out of his depth as well as kicking up a fuss whenever Rashford wasn't playing. Other pundits like Carragher were able to give far more objective analysis and called it as it is, just an unfortunate irony that an ex Liverpool player was more in tune with the sentiments of the fanbase.

No idea what Gary's agenda is or whether he even has one, but it just feels like his viewpoints are largely unhelpful towards United. His recent comments are yet another example, yes they might have been misconstrued or quoted out of context but they're not helpful nor remotely insightful, and as someone has rightly suggested I very much doubt he'd have the same reservations or warnings if Poch were in the driving seat to take over.

I don't think it's self-loathing, it's pure frustration and a feeling of helplessness about the way the club has been run for the past decade. And some fans including Neville are losing hope that anything will fundamentally change while this ownership remains. It's a growing feeling of apathy and despair.

It's not his job no, but his comments won't be helping, and he knows that, even if what he says is the truth pretty much. It wasn't his job to defend Ole, but he did until the very end anyway, and that didn't help us either.

Valentijn Driessen is the biggest joke of Dutch football journalism. I don’t believe anything he says.
He is very negative but it is funny when he is wrong. ''Lucas Moura never scores'' and Moura scores a late winner and Ajax doesnt go to the CL final. Or when he didnt go to Real - Ajax because Ajax had no chance and instead Ajax won 1-4

One of the best upcoming nr.6 he can get is Juventus Manuel Locatelli

Raphinha - Eriksen - Locatelli/Garner - Bruno - Sancho/Rashford + Rashford/Nunez

Neville is right (if you read the article), but his comments won't be helping our cause at all.
Exactly this, absolutely doesn’t help. We need the best man we can get for the job, can’t help but feel he’s bitter that Poch is being overlooked, he’d be bigging up the opportunity if it was Poch or in the frame imo.

I hope this isn’t true:

It's an interesting take if true. Moyes was a Europa League at best manager, LVG was in pre-retirement, Mourinho's reputation was already damaged and in question while Ole had no reputation to begin with. The way some are talking about about United since 2013 you would think that we had prime Sacchi, Mourinho, Guardiola and Del Bosque failing. The reality is that United gambled on managers that weren't close to be at the top.

And nothing really happened to their careers, Mourinho got a CL club less than a year after his sacking.

Erik Ten Hag to United will mean United will battle for the exact same players as City and Liverpool 433 players. Pep and Klopp are on the front seats. But hopefully he will turn it around.

Exactly. I should have been a bit more explicit. All of them went back to their level, no one really lost anything.

I admire your optimism. For me, there are question marks over the quality of most of the current squad, along with management structure, dressing room morale, individual character and the malign influence of the owners.

The fanbase is completely divided and only a small number of the youngsters are likely to be ready for first team football. Plus, beating the 2 best managers in the world to major trophies is the eventual brief.

You're right that it's a chance to become a great - and the resources mean there is potential - but it's a monumental challenge.

How can he get a guy that is only joining Juventus permanently this summer? Why would Juventus sell a player that they just purchased?

Agreed.

Morale is rock bottom so he only needs to get half a tune out of the side and the fanbase/board will be loving him.

Also he has made it pretty clear in the past that he rather stay in Italy than move abroad.

I didn't know that but it's not even surprising, italian players have often not been particularly eager to leave Italy.

I wonder if the Ajax players are getting unsettled by the rumors because they didn't play that well at the weekend. If they are getting unsettled and Ten Hag is indeed coming wouldn't it be better to confirm things so them and the United players know and it might kick them up the ass a bit.

I would say that you are reading too much into it, teams don't play well 100% of the time and footballers that aren't at the highest level are used to hearing about their managerbeing targeted, the same way they are used to think about the next stage of their own careers.

Maybe and they are also in a title race which could be why their games might be a bit more nervy.

Exactly, the fact that these games are important would be more important. Also we tend to forget that at this time of the season playing teams that are fighting against relegation isn't that easy, these teams have a different mindset than earlier in the season.

Yes he did help build the foundation and he did a competent job, but not by scratch as you put it. And the job he did wasn't out of the ordinary either. Because in his own words, it was a simple process and his role was to align recruitment towards a attacking play style. And the heads of recruitment/scouting did the rest which provided Rangnick with recruitment information to act upon.

So in essence Rangnick's job was pretty straightforward, which was to act upon information from the team below him, and to make sure the same team is working at optimal levels, because without their help, he wouldn't function as well in his role as the sporting director.

And what happened over a 100 years ago at Newton Heath doesn't have any correlation to what happened at RB Leipzig under their owner. Because this isn't a case of saving a club from financial ruin, but rather about creating a club with financial means that would be labelled a plastic club by German football fans due to it's owner not adhering to the 50 + 1 rule.
Not that I'm disagreeing, but if it was an easy process to achieve success like Rangknick did in such a short period with the Red bull clubs then anyone could do it and they'd be more similar examples to draw from. Ragknick is a confident guy, perhaps even arrogant. He modeled his plans for Liepzig on capital, concept, and competence. His diligence, wise spending, work ethic, precise delegation of roles (including handpicking managers like Nagelsmann and the DoF who succeeded him), mad obsession for the game and penchant for the finer details are the ingredients that led Liepzig to unprecedented prominence much to the chagrin and jealousy of opposition clubs in Germany.

I feel if the other factors at play (and other characters involved) didnt come together swimmingly then the project would've failed no matter how simple the process appears on paper. Rangknick depended on a slew of things to work in his favor but he was the major driving force and that can't be taken from him, not even by himself

Not to be pedantic but isn't the term 'plastic' technically reserved for a certain type of fan and not a club or footballing institution? Are the multitudes of Die Hard match going Liepzig supporters mostly plastic? The club treats them great and by all accounts the match day experience at Red bull arena still stands up to the high quality experiences you get at other famous German clubs that adhere to tradition like Dortmund and Bayern. The region of East Germany where Liepzig is also deserves a club playing top flight football.

I understand the hatred Leipzig receives, they went against a long standing tradition in German top flight football that has remained unchanged for decades, but nothing lasts forever. Exceptions to the 50 plus one rule were made for Wolfsburg and Leverkusen, simply because they were bankrolled for over two decades by the same ownership. The unprecedented is a guarantee every so often even if it comes in cycles many years apart and Liepzig are representative of this. Manchester united fans have been undeservedley blanket called plastics by opposition fans for a long time now due to the club's financial strength and global fanbase and global appeal. They are plastics in the fanbase yes, but that's part and parcel with the scale of popularity the club has attained. Is united a 'plastic' club for having ambition and for having foreign and some plastic supporters?

Liepzig still fall under/meet the 50 plus one rule as they cleverly circumvented the system to ensure it was achieved under their terms. The club did this by issuing a small amount of shares, buying 49% of them then pricing the rest prohibitively and choosing who could invest, chiefly Red Bull employees. I find them an appealing club, but then maybe I biased as I can see parallels with them and my local billionaire bankrolled club in Atlanta united. Anove everything else Liepzig is a properly run football club in my humble opinion, something severely lacking at united. I didn't mean to write a novel

The moon gave me flowers for funerals to come.
Gary Neville; it’s really hard to like that guy.
Maybe he knows something we don't and has a point though, say for example if there is going to be interference from people within the club/board and its a case of rinse and repeat and well be looking for another new manager in a couple of years time again as the team isnt performing.

The problem is that first he seemingly doesn't take into account the quality of the managers when he talks about players development and secondly he doesn't take the quality and reputation of the manager of the managers we hired when he talks about the club being graveyard for reputation.

None of what he said makes even a little bit of sense which is baffling. He shows zero critical thinking.

The thing is although there has been trouble behind the scenes at united does anyone really believe we’ve wrecked any managers reputation?

Moyes
LVG
Jose
Ole
Ralf

non of those would have a claim to united being the issue in my opinion.
Moyes got a PL job
LvG is a National team coach
Jose a Serie A job

Ole is the only one

Moyes had to rebuild his reputation again and is doing his best at West Ham, which still isn't where he was when he took over at United. His reputation has stabilized after a couple of clubs and technically, this is his second go around with West Ham.

LvG is the national team coach of his country, which don't have many good managers to select from. His reputation is the same as it was before United, exactly the same.

Jose nose dived at Spurs and took over a Roma team that is well below where he was at United or even Spurs.

None of the managers had an up and coming reputation. Moyes had the opportunity, but fail spectacularly. Ole's reputation is still his time with Cardiff in too many people's eyes, but he got so much more out of this United variation than he's given credit.

Ralf is in an interim appointment which was a bridge for him to become a consultant to the club moving forward.

EtH is the only manager in about 10 years for United that has increased his reputation rather significantly before a potential arrival.
