No, if the fans didn’t justify failures under prior regimes we’d have moved on from a number of this squad some time ago.

Nice try though.
You think we make decisions based on what the fans think? I sincerely hope that's not the case

If that’s the be all & end all of what you’ve taken from the original post then I sincerely hope that’s not the case either.

Feel free to refer to my first post where I say anything such though or. . . feel free to troll elsewhere.

seems like ETH has that same feistiness that Fergie had when someone pissed him off or got in his way of doing something

Not trolling but just trying to get to the bottom of this.

Next year we're gonna be up against a possible treble winning Pool, 4 times out of 5 champions City, a Conte Spurs with 2 of the 5 best players in the league and the previous years Champions league winners, without the distractions from their owner which clearly derailed them.

We've got a new manager who is, I hope, going to play a quick passing, high intensity, attacking style of football with the below squad.

De Gea - Not be able to play out from the back or keep behind a high defensive line
Dalot - Looks very shaky under the cross and switches off
Bissaka - Very poor technically and incapable of playing high intensity football
Telles - Slow. Sunday league slow
Maguire - Slow and clumsy. Not good on a high line
Varane - Injury prone
Fred - Weak technically and quite slow
Mctominay - Weak technically
Bruno - Weak and slow
Donny - Completely unproven
Rashford - Weak technically and looks unmotivated
Ronaldo - Old and unable to press properly

Why is 4th the bare minimum next season, knowing all that? Or in other words why can't people on here accept 5th if it looks like we're improving on the pitch and heading in the right direction?

It seems as if he is entirely immune from feeling the effects of the huge occasion and everything surrounding him being our manager. He is a cold mofo.

I’m a tad lost. I didn’t mention 4th or 5th place?

You’ve made a decent post that I don’t particularly disagree with but it bears no relevance to my initial post.

Too much sanity there mate. I hope we do well next season but all i care about is ETH blowing up and building up the team how sees fit. It won't happen overnight. in this day and age of instant gratification from most who love forums like this.....it will be shite shower on here.

You did mention lower expectations though and agreed with a lad who talked about top 4. That's what I thought you were talking about. Glad you agree with the difficulty of the task at hand as I laid out.

Ah, I see where you’ve gone here.

My lower expectations comments were retrospective, I have an issue with posters that would write off losses to Sevilla/Villareal/Leicester in the cups in recents years & multiple poor league performances but then got upset that we weren’t world beaters when we signed Ronaldo this season when it wasn’t surprising given what we’d seen justified previously.

Going forward I agree with your post. I don’t think we should put an arbitrary league number on next season before we see it play out to be honest, if he gets off to a flyer we can all dream but I wouldn’t say he has to make ‘x place’ to be considered a success. I’m just hoping for a style of play that we can look at week-in week-out & judge the players against, I’d like to see us attempting to play the same at Brighton as we do at Anfield, within reason of course.

For the first time on here I can genuinely say I hope this is just agenda posting and these people aren't actually getting bent over top 4. Nothing wrong with people saying they don't want to apply a standard rigidly.

Top 4 is a financial goal first and foremost. In terms of footballing progress it's an arbitrary metric to be using on its own. There may not actually be much between finishing 4th or lower, one team can finish 5th with a higher points total than the 4th of the previous season. It's the context that will inform our assessment of ETH instead of just some marker on the league table. If your expectations are top 4 that's fine, don't jump on others for saying they first want to look at the whole picture.

Maybe i'm just being negative after a god-awful season but i just don't see it with these 95% of these players. People talk about the second place finish last year but that was playing with a very limited system with a lot of comeback victories and a pretty decent/ok total of 74 points (Chelsea equaled that this season). I think that was their very best they could have done and their limit as players.
The majority won't be here though thankfully. Add just AWB/Jones/Bailly to the out of contract ones and that's 10 leaving.

Then you add a few new signings, those missing today (Varane, Shaw, Sancho, Ronaldo), return of the loanees to the squad; Laird/Garner/VdB/Amad and suddenly it's a different team.
Even if we keep Lindelof, Mctominay, Fred etc, they'll be squad players - rather than first picks...

We'll have a manager with a clear plan/system, who won't take any crap of players not trying/buying in to his tactics. All leads to a much more positive season.

Good strategic defeat against Palace
- lowers fans expectations and gives ETH time to implement his ideas 1-2 seasons
- players can’t moan/challenge if/when ETH demands changes
- gives ETH stronger hand in justifying enhanced transfer kitty
- can reduce salaries/ flog off undeserving/moaning players
- can give some time to hungry youngsters without pressure next season.

Any hope of him still getting RVP for the coaching staff or work permit making it a non starter

Even with his presence at the Palace match, the insipid display was seen again. I hope he doesn't treat these players too kindly. Changes are needed quickly and swiftly.

Ten Hag's new reign actually would start more smoothly if he inherited LVG's squad in that 2016 summer. Our squad right now is a huge gathering of misfits to his football philosophy.

But we will be fine because the club's football direction has changed. If you want proof, look at how we took back Pogba's offer. The old United would have bent over to Pogba's demands the moment that City rumor was up, much like what PSG did with the Mbappe case.

What the club did after Ole's departure until now should have been done in that season when Ole was the interim manager, with Rangnick brought in as a consultant. We could have had the best interim manager (For us) and the best one with building vision (Rangnick) without Rangnick's reputation being tarnished because he had to do a role he was not specialized in.

Better late than never. And I still hold the belief that our long-awaited rebuild started yesterday. The new manager's reaction on the stand told the whole story. There WILL be more purging ahead.

Just seen the video of Sky Sports hounding Hag after the United game.

Pathetic from Sky reporter, he deserves a ban.

Spot on. Especially the last bit. Here's hoping he hits the ground running.

Would be nice if they dispensed with the slow mo Hollywood approach to this press conference and just went old school. “New manager press conference at 10am”....first interview on the website...blah blah...no nonsense. No bravado. We need to knuckle down...let’s just get this over with and start work.

I swear to god...if I see him strut out into the the old Trafford turf, in slow motion to “Glory Glory Man Utd”...before being joined by cgi ghosts of the class of 92....I will have an aneurism.

I'm disappointed we didn't see him in a perm, signing his contract on the pitch tbh

I'd love him to take the security guard into the dressing room and he just escorts certain players put while ETH stands there not saying a word

Agree with most of this. I gave a pessimistic view of our squad yesterday but there is the skeleton of a team to work with.

Shaw, Sancho, Varane and Donny should be well suited to the Hag style

De Gea, Henderson, Dalot, Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Mengi, Fred, Mctominay, Garner, Bruno, Williams, Amad, Ronaldo, Elanga, Hannibal, Rashford and even Martial might be able to adapt to the new system.

If even half of the maybes are able to succeed under Teny then we have a team. Throw in 3 or 4 good signings and we're on our way. Come on United. Let's get back on track
