Very pleased to see Erik has the right priorities, we need to get the spine of the stronger. Fullbacks can wait:

Maybe he caught some of the Brighton game where championship players walked through the entire middle of the park like it was a friendly against high school kids

I hate these briefings.
How do you think journalism works?

From the looks of it, Klopp and Pep are here to stay. They will be at their respective clubs for many years to come. In order to compete against them, we need a coach who can match their genius. I don't know much about ETH apart from his time at Ajax, but I really do hope he will be able to match up with them. Otherwise, we won't get near the league title for many many years. We also need our management to fully back our manager like Liverpool and City have done for so many years. It's going to be a long road for us, but I'm hoping at the very least, it's an enjoyable one where we start playing beautiful football consistently.
Conte has won the league while both were here.

Pretty sure majority our matches are like that anyway. I'm glad that I see CB and 2 midfielders as part of the priority list.

Conte won the league in the 2016-17 season. Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 and Pep joined City in 2016. Back then, Liverpool didn't have the team they have now and Pep also needed a year to adjust to the league. Now it's a completely different scenario. Just look at both the teams now. No one can get close to their level in the league.

Plugging that canyon wide gap in the middle isn't a bad place to start. Plus hell yes we need a versatile or modern forward as Rangnick says. Our other forwards play like specialists. The modern frontline needs at least one swiss army knife that does more than score. Ole was a bit of a dinosaur in how he saw strikers. Even Greenwood was turning into a specialist forward.

Not sure how or why Ole is dragged into this. He got the best out of Marcus, knowing he's not the best service provider and cannot play on the right. Also got the best out of Martial as a center forward. Greenwood was developing a better overall game as a right forward and had time on his side to move into a center forward role. Then everything went to shit.

But this shouldn't be surprising as EtH is a football nut. He also had to prepare himself about the squad for his interviews. So he knows a bit more about the squad and type of player needed than what is being let on.

How are we going to buy our 4 targets for 150m?

De Jong 65m
Kamara 0m
Timber 40m
Nkunku 70m

That’s probably the closet thing we could do.

Impressed to see him taking action less than 24 hours after winning the league, clearly fully focused on Utd now which is music to our ears.
Or he could have rested on his laurels and taken a month off following it up by overtraining players.. you know

Just because they didn't mention it, doesn't mean we are not going to change our FB roster. We've already been linked to 2 fullbacks in Malacia and Sosa.

I think those 4 signings are the priorities in order to fill in the gaps. When it comes to other areas of the pitch, I'm fairly certain it will depend on the outgoings. We might have to sell Telles, Bailly and Jones to fund a new fullback.

If we sell Henderson, we'll be in the market for a new back up GK. Ten Hag loves his ball playing GKs and he will want variation. etc etc
^ this.
Papers reporting what we apparently want after the meeting yesterday and people are lapping it up like it’s gospel.

Unless the attendees are leaking, or the journalists are using listening devices, they have as much idea as we do of whom we are targeting.

I think we should back him 100%. If those are the two he wants, we should try and get them. I always worry when a manager goes for his ex-players though, maybe it is just lazy journalism.
There both massive upgrades on what we’ve got, FDJ would transform our cm while de light is massive upgrade on Maguire although I’d prefer pau Torres to him If I’m being honest

Every rebuild must start with defense. Need a CB, a CDM and a RB minimum.

First make the defense solid.
I agree, although we still need to be able to score goals and can’t just rely on Ronaldo. We’d draw a lot of games 0-0 if we just had a solid defence and no midfielder or attack to score and create chances.

Fabinho's forehead
I hope he has that madman inside of him. If certain players refuse his instructions or disrespect him I hope he gives them his own version of "hairdryer".

Because of the mistakes in how he built the squad. Getting the most out of players counts when it's in a format that's sustainable for long term success. We bandaided problems for so long. When it comes to modern forwards Rashford would post nice stats but Ole's barebones tactics would reinforce his weaknesses ie teamwork, passing and anything team related. Now that Ole has gone it's become obvious he has nothing in his bag outside of running and shooting. Rashford never developed his team based skills and it will probably plague him for whatever might be left of his United career. Strikers being extremely greedy is a dinosaur concept from era's past. These days teams play front 3s not 442s with specialists.

With our midfield we played a deep lying counterattack that hid just how deficient our midfield were at supporting a high line. He thought he could just play one way for 2 years while rebuilding for a totally different style. If the goal was to play proactively it wasn't a very well built midfield in any shape or form. ETH now has to patch it asap.

If McClaren shaves his head does that become our version of the holy Trinity??

Exellent. A versitile attacker makes much more sense than a common number 9 this summer when we still have Ronaldo. Molding a functional midfield and defence should be the priority. Chasing Nunez makes zero sense with a limited budget imo. I still hope we can find a cheaper fullback as well for around 15-25 million. A young promising one shouldnt cost that much imo. If not a number 9 and fullbacks can be the priorities for the next transfer window.

We surpassed Liverpool's level a mere 12 months ago......just saying.

Both are miles ahead of us but they can be caught. Hopefully ETH is the man to do it.

I don't think the forwards have to be versatile.

Salah isn't. Aguero wasn't. Benzema, Lewandowski?

They just have to go really good at that they do and compliment each others styles.

That's what I'm hoping these recruitment meetings produce.
