Hm - some good calls.Pelé, Ronaldo, Maradona for sure. Puskás probably.
They have one of the oldest squads; they're going to need alot of investment two players costing 250m+ when they have a surplus of £36m in 2019 and no resale value on existing players will probably be in Klopp's mind. They haven't posted their May 2020 results yet, that will be interesting. If it's really bad, and a second year of covid. I suspect they're past their peek.I reckon Haaland will move in the next 24 months and will move to England. I personally do not see him staying in Germany (i.e. Bayern; surely Dortmund said the his clause would excuse another German team?) Or Spain, as being Nordic and having some experience of living in England, it should be his best bet. Further, his playing style is suited to Northern European football.
When he does leave Dortmund, I reckon every club will make a play. This is how I see it:
Liverpool - I do not actually see him going here. Reason for this is Klopp and their squad make up and their style. First, I reckon Klopp will only stay with the Dippers for another 2-3 years. He doesn't strike me as someone who will stay at Liverpool for another 5+ years. This will mean they go through a transitional period. Further, their squad make up means they are in their peak as of now. In two years time, they will be at the tail end of this or past it (Mane, Firmino, Salah, Henderson, Thiago, VVD, Alisson, Fabinho) will all be 30+. Ok, Jota is looking promising but they will need a serious overhaul at the end of 2022/23 season. Further, they have a very fluid system which isn't really his style as wants to essentially stay in a No.9 role the whole time. Personally, unless Klopp stays and they pull another three Jota's out of the hat (and he can continue on his current trajectory) I do not see him going there.
Agree. I have the Dippers as a top side for another 24 months (and favourites for the title this season.) However, they are an aging team. Alisson is not an issue as GK's can play to 37-41 to a reasonable level, but their front three, Henderson, VVD (now he has had a ACL) and Thiago should start to show signs of decline. To be fair to the Dippers they do seem to play moneyball pretty well, but unless they can do another daylight robbery job on another team like they did Barca with Coutinho, I am unsure what happens to them post 2021/22.They have one of the oldest squads; they're going to need alot of investment two players costing 250m+ when they have a surplus of £36m in 2019 and no resale value on existing players will probably be in Klopp's mind. He already is. Hell, his the best player in the world now.Incredible player. He'll go down as the best Norwegian player of all time before he's in his mid-twenties.
You know that Ole wasn't the issue, right? The player and his team knew Ole really wanted him, but got the impression that the club wasn't too keen. That, combined with our refusal to agree to a release clause meant they opted for Dortmund instead.Let's face it, if we couldn't get Haaland when Dortmund was our competition, and having the distinct advantage of having not only a Norwegian manager, but one that's actually managed him, what chance have we go next year when he wants to leave? Ole's played a blinder here.
"Can't promise anything, Erling. You'd have to start from the bench next to Donny, to prove yourself. Mata's been here a while, and theres's young Daniel James who needs games too, so, you do you and if you want to join us let me know."
I think it takes a little more time than this, but then again I value longevity more than most.He already is. Hell, his the best player in the world now.
Why is he at Dortmund then? If not for the release clause, he'd be at a real big club now. Not Dortmund.Let's face it, if we couldn't get Haaland when Dortmund was our competition, and having the distinct advantage of having not only a Norwegian manager, but one that's actually managed him, what chance have we go next year when he wants to leave? When Sir Alex had influence on a player that wasn't his, and he really really wanted him, he didn't usually let the club be the decisive point in whether or not an impression was made. Sir Alex took it upon himself to insist upon personal interaction with the player. It's not a case of "bad Ole rah". Don't create a false narrative. You know that Ole wasn't the issue, right? But sure, bad Ole rah!
No, this is the epitome of bad Ole rah! When Sir Alex had influence on a player that wasn't his, and he really really wanted him, he didn't usually let the club be the decisive point in whether or not an impression was made. There’s another one playing right now. Mbappé as well had over 100 career goals at age 20.There are a few others as well...
Maybe Josef Bican too, but it's almost impossible to get a precise and trustworthy breakdown of this goals. All things considered, very good company to be in.
- Eusébio: ~110 goals for Benfica, Maxaquene and Portugal by the age of 20-ish.
- Greaves: ~100 goals for Chelsea and England by the age of 20-ish.
- G. Müller: ~100 goals for Bayern and Nördlingen by the age of 20½.
- Seeler: ~100 goals for Hamburg by the age of 20½.
- Meazza: ~100 goals for Internazionale and Italy by the age of 20½.
Why on earth would he join us, other than a for a huge wage, which is probably not his determining factor when choosing his next club.We need to do whatever it takes to get him to sign at the next available opportunity.
He is literally unplayable. Worth 150 million or more, easily.
Wellbeck would have had 100 goals by age 20 if he'd played in FranceThere’s another one playing right now. Mbappé as well had over 100 career goals at age 20.
Yawn.Wellbeck would have had 100 goals by age 20 if he'd played in France
Sir Alex had unprecedented power in his role at the time. Power that managers since then haven't had. When Sir Alex had influence on a player that wasn't his, and he really really wanted him, he didn't usually let the club be the decisive point in whether or not an impression was made. Summer 2022, it's set at 75M euro. It was a very smart move and why he went to Dortmund in the first place, almost any big club can come up with that and he'll have plenty to pick from. His Dortmund contract have a release clause?
As soon as Dortmund decides to sell him or a bid comes in they can't refuse then they have Youssoufa Moukoko ready to come in as a replacement. He really is too good. Surely every top club in Europe is "preparing" a bid.
You don’t know our history it seems. How players like Ronaldinho, Shearer, Robben, Hazard etc etc slipped from Fergusons grasp. Which is fair enough, it just sounds better if you don’t talk like you’re school headmaster. You do know Solskjær has had ‘personal interaction with the player’ as well I hope. When Sir Alex had influence on a player that wasn't his, and he really really wanted him, he didn't usually let the club be the decisive point in whether or not an impression was made.
