Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho?

Which player would represent a better signing for United in January?

Martial and Rashford I believe both got 20 goals last season?

Another reason it's hard for these non proper CFs to score is because we lack creativity. That has been our biggest problem for the last 8 years, not finishing or goal prowess imo. We don't slice teams open with consistent ease
Im glad someone said it.

We have one of the best finishers to have come out in recent times, and her gets to shoot at goal
Once maybe twice a game at most. Haaland will have the same issues in this team.

I don't think there is a club that would hesitate to sign Haaland, after Mbappe would likely be first on most teams wishlists.

Sancho is not to be sneezed at of course, but of the 2 Haaland definitely for me - I can really picture him in a Utd shirt, and that for me is the most concrete evidence I have that we will indeed beat the other teams to him.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

We do have problems creating chances, but it also has to be noted that Greenwood's movement to get into goal-scoring opportunities isn't particularly good at first team level. Hopefully that will come (his goal against Leipzig was definitely a sign of that improving), but for now he's an amazing finisher that scores most of his goals from the edge of the box as his movement hasn't been good enough to get behind the defenders on a regular basis. Haaland is far better at that aspect, indeed he's already one of the best around and arguably the best I've ever seen at such a young age. He won't find it as easy here because of our lack of creativity but he'd still score many more 'tap-ins' than any of our other strikers.

Neither. There seems to be this obsession on these boards with spending an enormous amount of money on rectifying an area of the pitch where the deficiencies are least pronounced.

Sancho is vastly overpriced and in my opinion no better than rashford or martial - I’m certain rashford would be notching up identical numbers in the BuLi where they’re obsessed with high lines. He gave a precise demo of how much fun he’d have in the BuLi in the Leipzig game.

You already have a kid in Greenwood with the potential in a couple of years to be producing similar numbers to haaland - he is already one of the most effective pure finishers around which is pretty much what haaland brings.

Why not spend the same money on sorting out midfield, the fullback positions, defence where there are gaping issues?

There is also an obvious coaching issue in terms of putting it all together on the pitch and developing the likes of Greenwood which needs to be urgently addressed, but there are plenty of other threads on that topic.

Neither, We have better players at the club already and the two mentioned players are way over priced.
Look, I'm not one to make such claims easily, but Sancho and Haaland are better than any player we have at those positions and it's not even that close.

I agree. However I would still have Haaland over Sancho as I rate the former much higher.

I'd spend the remaining budget in other areas of the pitch as opposed to 100m on Sancho alone.

Based on their performances in their respective leagues I would agree with you but it all comes down to how they would perform in the Premier League and last season all our front three had a good return of goals in their respective positions so while I respect the opinions of others I just do not commit to stating they are better until they actually do it.

Haaland and it’s not even close, he has everything and nearly has a goal a game and he’s a teenager. The only reason some might choose Sancho is that our RW is awful and he would be more needed. But Haaland is a different level

We should break the bank for both of them in the summer using the fees we get for Pogba and Martial

Sell Martial and buy Håland, promote Greenwood as his back-up. Rashford to the left and Diallo to the right. If Mbappe is Real-bound we might have a chance, but Barca and Pool would offer serious competition. Sancho is good but Håland is better.

Easiest decision ever. Haaland every day. Sell Martial to PSG to replace the departing Mbappe. Everyone's happy and we might just have the 2 most lethal strikers in Europe in a couple of years!

I don’t imagine there is anyone who would choose Sancho over Haaland.

however, I think Sancho would be the far more likelier to end up in a United shirt. It’s clear he wanted to come in the summer.

Haaland will have 20 clubs after him when he decides he’s outgrown Dortmund, which will be sometime in the next 18 months.

Haaland possess absolutely everything we need, most importantly a winning mentality with leadership qualities. I'd forfeit buying out and out wingers settling for Rashford, Martial and Greenwood for the opportunity to have him as our centre forward at OT.

Haaland by a mile. He’s better than Sancho, who will just take minutes from Greenwood, James (I still believe in his potential), Facundo and Diallo. Instead, Haaland will give Martial a boot up the ass and us the best finisher in the league. He’s a fantastic focal point who is absolutely rapid too, so we’ll have a plan B who’ll also be the main man.

No-brainer for me.

He showed his quality in August-December 2019 and that he’s a PL player. Have you forgotten his performances in that period, like Chelsea, Norwich, Southampton, Liverpool, City etc?

As usual, RedCafe writing off a young player after a dip in form, admittedly quite a large one. Obviously not comparing them, but were you one of those who wrote Ronaldo off as a showpony with no end product at the beginning?

Maybe if we signed sancho and were first, second, or third in the league. But I don’t see us besting Madrid or Barcelona for the lad. Also Bayern Munich’s main man is 32 years old and Haaland would be a great successor there.
I just don’t see us getting him with where we are at. If it’s just money sure we can beat him but as others said he comes off as generational talent and teams seem to find the money for that.

Haaland's seems such a strong character - does miss quite a few sitters though, however, you could argue that his runs are what creates those chances.

I was expecting this reply so literally specified I wasn’t. Read the post again
You did end up arguing that signing Sancho would mean fewer minutes for James, as if that were a bad thing, though.

How good is Haaland in a packed box?

We all know he can run in behind, but that's Rashford and Martial's forte already. In fact, Rashford just recently gave a masterclass against Leipzig when they pushed up stupidly. If Haaland is as deadly in front of a low block as he is in a high line, then him for sure.

As for Sancho, I'm still not convinced his attributes will translate well to Man Utd in the Premier league.

I honestly think it is though. If he doesn’t get minutes to develop, that can’t be good...

Of course, and maybe I could have specified in my post, the best option is him going out on loan. Thought it wasn’t necessary as that isn’t an option considering the only team who wanted him was Leeds.

Haaland every day of the week. We’ve got about 3 wingers playing most weeks, we don’t need a 4th. We need an out and out striker

Have you seen United's score card? Are there still people out there who think their club is somehow the exception to getting fecked by Covid?
If you wouldn’t mind just putting the goalposts back where they were to begin with, that would be great.

Nobody said United’s finances or any other club for that matter would not be affected by this. The argument was that Dortmund wanted to cash in this summer and they over played their hand. £90m now looks like a good sum to polish those accounts with.

Instead they are now in debt and Sancho is going to be worth half what they demanded this summer. At least they will get a half hearted season out of him I guess?

You do realize you're going on about the supposed goal posts and precise meaning of a one word post?

For the striker positions we have Martial, Cavani (for 2 years) and Rashford.

At LW we have Rashford, Martial.

At RW we have Greenwood, Diallo.

There is an argument that Martial is better coming off the left than playing the striker. Diallo and Greenwood are raw and young so not sure how they will turn out or what their best positions are.

I would say we would benefit from having Sancho over Haaland in the short term but once Cavani is gone we'll need another striker. Do we stack up with another striker next year (Haaland) and push Martial to the left permanently and to rotate with Rashford? Either way we are stacked with players, but not with world class players.

No one wrote off Ronaldo as a show pony. Everyone could see the obvious talent as just waited for him to transform it in to end product

Haland has talent to reach as best striker in the history, compare to Sancho, I don't think he has the same talent to be the best winger in the history. You want to build the team around someone like Haland. Problem is, I don't think Haland suits with Rashford & Greenwood in one XI, more like Sancho will compliment Rashford & Greenwood in the team than Haland with those two.

It's like Ruud, how he prefers to play with someone creative (Beckham) who can create assists for him rather than someone more of a goalscorer or making poor decision making in the final third (18 years old Ronaldo).

You didn’t but of course people did. The Caf wasn’t popular back then but outside from here, so many people wrote Ronaldo off as a showpony after his outstanding debut against Bolton became a memory.

Your post was two sentences, both of which questions, seemingly rhetorical. That’s what I was responding to.

He's nowhere near Ronaldo or van Basten talent-wise, I'm not sure how he's supposed to reach their level (and outperform them). He simply doesn't have the technique required.
He's probably going to end up as the best number 9 of his generation if all goes right, which is a no small thing, but there's no chance for him to become the "best in history".

And those questions where aimed at a post that said "both [picture that shows Dortmund's net debt went up to €29m]".
