Martial is Lukaku's replacement if anyone hasn't noticed. That's why Ole gave him the no. 9. Now it's up to Martial to prove he's good enough to play as our main striker and to do this he has to perform well for us in that position for the whole of this season. So we've given Martial a chance to prove himself and he's been doing well so far. Now are we just going to go against this and sign Haaland in January if he continues his good form? Or get aback up that can support him when needed.

This is Martial's chance to prove his worth as our main striker and signing Haaland can disrupt that chance. Haaland who is currently top scorer in Champions league will come in expecting to start given his price and form currently. But there are strikers capable of being back ups and at the same time capable of performing when called upon.

Give Martial this season to prove himself and if he fails then get a striker next summer. We still have about 12 games to go before the January transfer window opens so it doesn't even have to take a full season to analyze if he's good enough to be our no.9. However if he does perform then what we would need is a good enough back up for him

Haaland may not even be available January like some are suggesting.
Martial has spent half the season injured, just like other seasons. We can not afford to be left with Rashford and greenwood to be the main sources of goals. In the last few games alone James has created multiple chances which have gone begging because we don’t have a natural centre forward.

Lastly, Haaland is a generational talent. Miss out and we will regret it. Due to the Ole connection we won’t have a better chance to sign him than now.

I can't see him moving in January, he's having too much fun in the CL for one.

Jesus Christ. How is this still a thing!

A couple of facts about the Keane-Haaland 'tackle'.

1) Haaland was not injured by the tackle. He was not substituted off, he continued playing and finished the match.

2) Haaland was fit to play a friendly for Norway a few days later. He was also fit to play the following weekend for City (came off after 68 minutes).

3) Haaland carried on playing football for two years after the 'tackle'.

4) Haaland did retire from football at the age of 29, due to his failure to fully recover from an injury - to his left knee. Keane's challenge was on his right knee. Haaland has explained that his left knee had been causing him problems for months prior to the game with United, that he was heavily strapping it for that reason and that Keane's tackle had no effect on that knee or the existing injury. He had an operation on his left knee in the summer of 2001, but problems with that knee persisted and eventually caused his retirement in 2003.

5) Haaland came out of retirement after 8 years to play for Rosseland BK in the Norwegian Third Division.

6) Haaland does not blame Keane for the way his career ended and professes no bitterness towards him.

Now, for the love of God, let this myth die.
Good luck with that! It’s been addressed 3-4 times in this and the other thread already, people don’t like to read.

Listened to a radio show this morning and Graham Hunter said he is a massive Leeds fan and can't see him signing for United.
Where is my gibberish list. Oh, there it is. Graham Hunter now added.

Put your fizzy drinks down children, this kid is scoring goals in the Austrian league an you need to get a hold of yourselves.

Ronaldo. I bet he can hit the ball so super hard he can burst it too. And he has magic laser powers.

Been reported in the Norwegian media that we are in poll position to sign him (Dagbladet) any Norwegians care to confirm the quality of the source?

There's an article in The Athletic by Adam Crafton this morning saying Ole has sent his personal scout to monitor him during the Champions league.

It also says Mandzukic is on our radar but Haaland seems to be the long term option.

Was reported yesterday. The article was written by Morten Pedersen, chief sports writer at Dagbladet - Norway's second largest newspaper. He claims that a well-informed source has said United has submitted an offer. Seems more like to Haaland via intermediaries rather than to RBS. Like I wrote yesterday, Norwegian papers rarely do this, especially not the the chief sports writers. So he probably has a source close to Ole or the player (wouldn't be shocked if it's Jim Solbakken). Or it could be a case of him trying to achieve 15 mins of international fame - after all he's the most annoying sports writer in the country. But most likely legit.

Just read the Athletic article. Basically saying that Ole has Simon Wells(Ole's personal scout) to scout him inspite of us having already scouts in Austria.

Is this honestly possible during January!? Feel like we’ll be ‘in for him’ till we get the Mandzukic consolation prize towards the end of the window.

Surely Red Bull don’t need the money & he seems to be happy for now; I just can’t see this happening but I didn’t see us not signing a midfielder/striker in the summer so. . .

Despite Oles transfer strategy being to buy for the future?
He’s also spoken about experienced players and if it’s 5m for Mandzukic or 50m for Haaland I know which one is more likely to happen.

Ole will only be given so much to spend, if we sell Pogba and are very optimistic, in January and next summer combined he might get 200m.

Why is a 5m signing more likely to happen?

Firstly we sold Lukaku, creating quite a low net spend, leaving money available.

the club are mid rebuild. Sure if there were wasn’t any other players on the market then go get Mandzukic for 2 years as a backup.

But we went out and got the best and most expensive RB on the market, the same with CB, we also got a 21 year old attacker. Ole has also promoted various Young academy players.

Why therefore is it so obvious to you that we will pass on one of the hottest young talents in world football when it’s clear there is money available and it’s clear Ole wants to invest in talented, young players?

I’d be inclined to agree with you if Ole or LVG was in charge? They liked bringing experienced older players in

We have to move in January. Loan him back until the summer if we must.

I just don’t feel we will be able to fight off competition in the summer (assuming we have none in January).

Sending a scout to watch a player doesn't necessarily mean we re signing him. Our scouts watch hundreds of players.

Have a look at some of the stats from this season. From WhoScored. PL only.

Rashford 6/3 (goals/ass)
Mané 7/2
Sterling 7/1
Pulisic 5/2

Martial 3/3
Firmino 3/3
Aguero 9/2 (Jesus 3/1)
Abraham 10/2

Dan James 3/2
Salah 6/3
B Silva 5/2 (Mahrez 2/3)
William 2/3

City has so far scored 2,9 goals/game in the PL.
Liverpool 2,3
Chelsea 2,3
United 1,3

Erling Haaland 19 years old. 194 cm, 87 kg. (Zlatan wasn’t close to these numbers in the same age)

CL 7 goals in 271 minutes
Bundesliga 15 goals in 10 games (2 sub)

We can’t shy away from a talent like this no matter the costs. The stats speaks for itself.
This. We would be insane not to be in for him. It seems people are turned away because hes apparently going to "steal" the spot from Martial. Look, i love Marital, but he cant realistically play 60 games assuming we go some distance in the cups and outside of the current preferred attackers we have exactly 1 backup and hes just a kid fresh from the academy.

If you've seen him play he ticks all the boxes for what could be a world class striker one day. Hes got size, strength, pace, technique, finishing, first touch and great strikers instinct. And even if hes not an direct upgrade on Martial, he offers something completely different that can be invaluable when facing teams that sit deep. Hes also 5 years younger than Martial, so its not like we are signing some old geezer here.

Also, i think the only realistic chance we have of ever getting him is if Ole is our managers.

Retweeted by Pornstein. It's on.
Sent a scout to watch and monitor him when every average football fan have seen enough of him on Youtube and decided He's the new Hary Kane.

Just sign him OLE.

He needs to score another 3-4 in the CL, move here in January and aim for the CL/EL top scorer double.

Tasty proposition, that.

It's January or bust for him I think, they'll be way too many sharks swimming around him in the summer.

Agreed. If we are in for him, it needs to be January. Next summer will be impossible, he'll have all the big fish swimming around him who can offer CL football. His value will probably have gone up too. I hope this is genuine interest and not just our annual Ed Woodward briefathon bullshit to detract from below-par league performances.

I believe that even Lukaku would do better with Daniel James in the side.

Haaland + Daniel James = easy goals.

I like the thought of signing one of Europe's best prospects and he has done well in Austria but when looking at what we need from another perspective and what we already have in the team I would have though signing a DM or a #10 would transform the side more. We now look like we have a settled forward line in Rashford - Martial - James so buying another expensive #9 will bring more issues than it solves: do we move to a classic 4-4-2, do we drop Martial or does the new signing come in as back up. For it would be counterproductive to disrupt what is beginning to look like a potent front three, I think we are better served looking for a back up striker and starting #10 in the winter window.
If we already had a settled and creative midfield behind them strikers I would understand bringing in more competition but we need to prioritize our signings but if the club felt that he was a potential generational talent then lets go for it.

Funny that you think we could get Haaland for £50m

Why do we need to scout him? Everyone has seen him play and didn't Ole manage him so knows his character/what he's like as well
