Anybody knows whats the difference between the Home Shirt and the Authentic Home Shirt in the United Store? Price difference is around 40 pounds.

Not sure never had an authentic but it looks to have a different cut to it and it’s more breathable for players so different material apparently.

So, most of the iconic numbers are taken then?

Ronaldo #7
Martial #9
Rashford #10
Greenwood #11

Only missing ones are Bruno getting the #8 from Mata and Varane getting #4 from Phil Jones. Shaw should also bribe Bailly for #3.

Shaw had #3 and gave it back didn't he?

Bruno has 18, which is pretty damn iconic IMO

Correct, he wore #3 in his first season at United. He wore #23 at Southampton but Cleverley was had #23 when Shaw first arrived at Old Trafford.

The curse on the number 7 shirt is so strong that even Ronaldo himself turns out to be a disaster.

I'd prefer to keep it vacant for a few years now and only give it to a player who's earned it with a Player of the Year season or two for us under his belt at least. Not given right away to some big new signing, or Sancho / Garnacho when they don't deserve it yet.

Cavani scored 17 goals wearing it in 20/21 and Ronaldo scored 24 last season. Hardly bad numbers.

Curse doesn’t exist anymore, we just need to give the shirt to someone who isn’t on the precipice of retirement

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Yep, I agree with that. Not necessarily POTS, but it should be left vacant for a while until somebody earns it. Which nobody has done yet. I thought Sancho would, but so far that really hasn't been the case.

It's just a number and nobody really cares, come on.

Giving a player certain numbers under his name on a football shirt only when he earns it....

Becoming a bit of a "poisoned chalice" isn't it?

Surely the next time we assign it, we have to get it correct. Putting it on established stars hasn't worked.

I'd love to see us give it to Mason Greenwood personally. Youth product too. Beckham and Ronaldo got it when still wet behind the ears, and it worked okay.

It’s weird how this thread hasn’t archived properly for normal users. Using my handy Scout tools I can see a few earlier pages. The original OP was this…

Tommy Bamford looks to be moving to Wrexham in the summer so we’ll need a new number 7. I’ve heard great things about an Austrian fella who works on the right wing. Needs to do something about his shit moustache though, and his goal celebration could do with some work. One handed salute? At least do the fecking Charleston or something as well.

This is from the very first post on this thread and still very much rings true

Edit: Apologies, unaware the post had been alluded to already today!

Aged like fine wine...

I think we should take the majesty out of the number and give it to a player who performs well over a prolonged period. I don't think that player is currently in the squad.

The first post in the thread
There are quite a few threads on the forum that make for absolutely incredible reading in hindsight. The covid thread being the best example. Dramatic irony at its finest.

Just tell Antony & Nacho that the number is down to the two of them. Let them duel on the pitch the rest of the season and give it to whoever elevates their game the most.
