Ethan Wheatley | On loan to Lincoln City

Being a Cobblers supporter, I'm extremely happy and excited that my team will (hopefully) help the young man forward in his career. Kevin Nolan is Northampton Town's manager, some of you will remember what type of player he was, and he has stated that he wants the team to play more football this season, so I hope that Ethan will quickly integrate into the team, which may take time to gel, as there will be 7 or 8 new players this season.
Tom Eaves is our only out and out striker, and is primarily a target man, very good in the air, but not too shabby on the floor. Ethan, I think, will be more involved in the teams build up, and will be a great asset to The Cobblers.

Potentially good he got a League One loan after his spell in the division below didn’t go to plan last season.

When I was a kid in the mid 80s, I randomly started following Northampton as a 2nd team (as well as United) because they were at the very bottom of the football league. Within a couple of years they got promoted! (the Trevor Morley, Richard Hill, Russell Wilcox era).
I've kept that secondary support going to this day - must have been to about 50-100 games of theirs (home or away) over the years.
So, as I say, I'm glad to see Wheatley join the Cobblers and really hope the loan goes well.

Had a good performance beside the goal. Roaming out wide, holding up ball, first touch, acceleration,... Funny that he looks more comfortable here than at League Two last season. We found the right loan.
He was injured second half, I believe when he blocked an attempt on goal, so he does the hard graft as well.
Northampton, at the moment, don't play to his strengths, on the floor, balls in behind. The football is getting better, and over the coming weeks, as Ethan gets used to the physicality of League One, he will play an increasing role in The Cobblers as an attacking force.

That's good feel that. He has all the tools needed to be a good premier league player. Will be interesting to see how he develops.
Looks very well rounded. Already strong enough to lead the line in mens football, neat footwork and working very hard. Think his loan is going a bit under radar.
When you work as hard as Wheatley does in these clips - the fans will love you but he needs to add a few more goals to his name

Northampton have the worst goals scored record in the league expecting a teenager to do the heavy lifting is fanciful
I don't expect him to grab 25 goals - but 2 in 14 isn't enough.
We're not a great team at the moment, work hard, but unfortunately there are too many long balls. Wheatley is a hard worker, but a target man he is not. Looked a much better player when Eaves came on, and he found space to use his on the ball skills.
We are getting Guthrie, who is our main CB, Shaw, our dominant midfielder, back in the next week or two, plus Campbell in midfield, Hoskins, forward, but has been doing pretty well at RWB, good footballer, Guinness -Walker good LWB, and excellent footballer, so I'm hopeful that we will get the ball down and play a bit more on the floor. We look a much better team when we do that. I think Wheatley will score a few more goals before his loan ends. He already looks stronger in 50/50's, can ride tackles well, and is not always falling over when challenged, unlike some players do, especially Premier League players.
Wheatley is a good lad, and will make a decent career out of football, but yes he needs to be turning these half chances into goals, that's his next 'goal', pun not intended.
Wheatley scored today against Cardiff, but also later on scored an own goal
He played well, got motm, was gutted about the OG, but scored a cracker.
That's Will Fish who he shrugs off.
Against Wycombe in EFL Trophy he get an assist, and hit the post just before that

Yes he was injured, but I understand that he would be back, and available towards the end of January.
It sounds like United probably weren't happy with the quality of football at Northampton, when we get the ball down and play, we are not a bad side, but Ethan was getting too many aerial balls, so not to his strength. It's a shame for us as he was a very creative source.
Looks like he's going to Bradford City for the 2nd half of the season. 3rd in the league, hopefully he gets time they want to make promotion so I don't know how forgiving they will be if he doesn't keep up

I would be very surprised if a premier league club came in for him given his not overly impressive spell in league 1 last season. Definitely got the raw skills but needs time to fine tune them I would say…
