This is the first time that a Serie A team has reached the final of the UEFA Cup / Europa League since Parma in 1999 right?

For all the talk about Premier League clubs not taking the competition seriously over the years, for a period Serie A clubs seemed to take it even less seriously, with the likes of Palermo, Sampdoria etc. playing weakened teams. Their poor record in this competition was the main reason why their lost their 4th Champions League place to the Bundesliga in 2011.

Surprised Conte hasn't won a cup before to be honest. Considering that with his style, the deeper into tournaments they get, the more likely teams playing styles will play into their hands.
He won the FA Cup if i remember correctly.

Yeah Serie A teams rarely take it seriously. Even in recent years, teams like Napoli, and Inter would put out rotated squads and not really give it a go.

Hmmm. The issue is that there's just not enough money in it and it can badly affect fitness with the long travels and the thrusday/sunday-monday thursday schedule

There's a reason UEFA had to to give the winner a CL spot, it was the only way to requalify it

That said, there's been a big push in recent years, even before the CL qualification, to get clubs to start taking it seriously. Atalanta did, Fiorentina did, Lazio did a couple of years ago, Roma as well, Inter this season...

These days it's only Napoli who don't care about it. Because the owner is very open about his utter disdain for it

No pen because the foul started outside? That defender smashed his Achilles while inside the box, that is when he fell, the rest he just tanked through, clear penal.
