With the current drought of TV money, I would have thought French clubs would have been all over this

I assume UEFA will counter this proposal in some way. They won't want to become irrelevant.

Only thing I would change about current UCL is make it all knockout based. Like the FA cup. Group games came become a formality.

This idea is horrendous. Nothing for clubs to aim for. Sickening really.

It's gonna be the same clubs playing in a European competition with a better format, more money and finally a way to cap the Oil clubs, it will basically be the champions league in everything but name

We'll lose the legacy of the CL and that is a shame but if this is how football evolves then we either go with it or get left behind
So you mean Arsenal finish tenth in the league or Liverpool in sixth but they deserve to play in the top competition in Europe because of their name? In what world is that a better format?

This was just discussed on the US feed of the PL. The analysts are saying this is a done deal and they will pick up more teams after it is agreed by the teams involved. It happened today because UEFA was to announce an expansion of the Champions League next week.

There are 15 founder clubs and based on the plan before the plan is for 20 clubs, and there still haven’t been any German or French clubs included in this. There won’t be space for teams to earn a place in it by the time they’re done.
ESPN has been told by a person familiar with the blueprint that the proposed framework involves a total of 20 teams, with 15 permanent members who cannot be relegated.

A further five teams will be rotated in and out of the competition, based on performance, but the permanent members will include six Premier League clubs, three from La Liga, three from Italy's Serie A, two from the Bundesliga and one from France's Ligue 1.
That makes it sound like the German and French clubs are among the permanent members even if they haven't declared yet, with another five to be added.

The big teams need sacrificial lambs like Spartak Maccabi Transylvania FC to be certain of qualifying.

Another chance for the Glazers,Arsenal, Torypool fc etc to bury the smaller clubs and they will not be passing it up.

They want a monopoly.

If they do this, could they please get refs that work big domestic games instead of some Romanian ref that has never heard of VAR?

This is a disgrace to world football; driven by money and greed, top clubs looking to monopolise and solidify their status for time immemorial. Sickening.

Just imagine what would happen to domestic and grassroot football with top clubs having no incentive to participate in domestic football. Small clubs would have less revenue to be earned from broadcast fees, and they are already suffering as much as it is.

Some excerpts from the Mail:

The new league represents the American takeover of elite European football, which will become a closed shop run by its founder members. It is bankrolled by US banking giant JP Morgan and is the brainchild of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the American owners of three leading English clubs.
It is believed Perez will hold the chairman's role in the new league's structure, with Liverpool's John W. Henry, Joel Glazer of Manchester United and Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke as vice-chairmen.
Andrea Agnelli, chairman of Juventus, and believed until now to be an ally of UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin will occupy the fourth vice-chairman role.
JP Morgan are believed to be debt financing the new league to the tune of £4.6billion, which is set against future broadcast revenue.

Can anyone explain how Spurs have lucked their way into being involved in something called a Super League?
I really do not know. Forest have more of a shout than they do.

For United this will be disastrous in the medium-long term. It will give the Glazers green light on investing even less money as the amount of guaranteed income is just as high for finishing outside of the traditional CL places.

Perez, Glazer's, Kronke and Henry as the supposed 'Head's' of this idea says it all.

How's this differ from the restructure Uefa were proposing?

I mean they were basically guarenteeing far more match ups between the elite teams and some weekend games weren't they?

Seems like a silly idea given that its basically what the CL already does.
its not the same. The founding members of this will qualify for it every season no matter the league position. Say the premier league ended today, chelsea, Liverpool,Tottenham and Arsenal would not qualify for the CL. But in this new tournament they will be able to still play it next season because they are founding members.

The CL is a glorified FA Cup set to music

Come on now, we both know that’s simply not true.
Heh, just wait and see.

I don't think I'd choose another team but this just kills the notion of fairness. What's the point if this goes through?

Everyone saying they’d be done with football or United if this happens will be the first ones watching. I mean who wants to watch United play the likes of Barca and Real on a regular basis when you can have those instant classics vs the Instabuls and Olympiacos of the world.

Yeah, it is essentially the NFL.
