Jose Mourinho has radically downgraded the duties of Chelsea first team doctor Eva Carneiro, including her removal from the bench on matchday, just three days after his trenchant criticism of her and head physiotherapist Jon Fearne.

The 41-year-old doctor, of Spanish and British parentage, will continue to be the team’s first team doctor but will only work from the club’s Cobham training base. She will not travel with the team to games, home or away, nor will she attend training sessions outside on the first team pitch at Cobham.

Today, Chelsea refused to comment on her specific situation. A spokesman for the club said: “We don’t comment on internal staffing matters.”

Chelsea never seem to struggle too badly with injuries, so maybe we actually should consider signing her up.

Would anybody even make a story about something happening to her under any manager, at any club, if she wasn't fit?

Team doctor essentially sacked because she ran on to the pitch to help *one of Chelsea's players* at their request?

Yeah I think it would still be a story.

She wasn't sacked though. Just a nonsense punishment. Mourinho is using the medical team as a scapegoat to save his own ass.

There is some logic to what Mourinho said about her going onto the pitch when they were a man down and possibly having to defend counter attacks with 8 men and 2 of those were strikers.

At the same time Mourinho would deflect blame on everyone but his team to shield them after an embarrassing game like that so it wouldn't surprise me if he throws the physio under the bus because he cannot criticize the referee anymore.

He's just jealous because Guardiola beat him to the first big manager vs physio team fight, he thinks he can one up him because there's a woman on his staff to add extra drama. Utter nonsense from him yet again, he just looks for conflict for the sake of it these days.

No she hasn't been sacked but I'd imagine she will feel like she is being forced out and may well have a case for constructive dismissal.
It's yet another pathetic decision from a joke of a club.

There was uproar when Pep publicly embarassed Bayerns medical team and they all look like they're 80 years old

Hence the word "essentially". When your job description is cut down by 80% because you pissed off your boss it only goes one way.

Save his ass from who? Abramovic? The media? Do you honestly believe that Mourinho thinks he's convinced everyone that the medical staff were to blame for dropping points on Saturday?

He was asked after the game why he was so animated on the touchline... He gave an honest response, and he had a valid point. If the interviewer hadn't have asked, we'd never have even known at his grievance.

That might suggest reason for this is something else. Maybe they had a big fallout after the game.
Seems likely.

 Genuinely crying with laughter here.

As for her role and the people criticizing Mourinho none of you have any idea whether this was the last straw or a decision taken specifically based on recent events in other words none of you have any idea how good or bad she is at her job.

I've criticized Jose a lot over the years as he can be a prick, but I can't see much to take issue with here if that is how he sees it.

No but he's shifted all the focus away from the result and onto his team Dr.

That's not true, commentators during the game pointed out he appeared to be angry with his medical staff and there is video and picture evidence of that.
