Evan Ferguson - Top Irish Prospect

If the club does want another striker, it's Ferguson and Durán that we should be looking at

Crazy. At the back end of the 2022/23 season people were touting him going for fees circa 100m. Shows you how quickly things change in football. He still has plenty of time on his side, in fairness.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we go for him on loan - could do far worse as another option up top

He's a big United fan.

Bring him here. It gives us another option and he actually knows where the net is. Get him back enjoying his football and we'll have a fantastic player in our hands. Negotiate a good deal to buy him in the summer from Brighton.

He looked so good at one point. Wouldn't be massively opposed to a loan.

He's had some injuries that have stalled his progression, a loan would do him good, would need to go somewhere he can get a run of games and build his confidence back up.

He is very talented but has lost his confidence. I don’t think United is the place for a striker to rediscover his mojo. (Just ask Marcus)

That's no conspiracy here or big mistake as to what happened him.

Injuries happened that's all. He just needs to get fit stay fit and have a run of games. Then he will be right back where he was, a highly rated centre forward

It's not as if there is loads of strikers who we can get in on loan in January. It's a risk free gamble if we can get him on loan.

The 100m price tag was crazy talk. But so is writing him off as some sort of flash in the pan.

Not the right move for him at all. He’ll know that too of course not that I think a loan here was ever on the cards. I can see a foreign CL or EL club taking a punt on him for the second half of the season and him not doing much. I hope he gets back to his best but he’s another long term project player. We could have bought him with the Rasmus money but we chose a different player. Now we have to try and make it work for the rest of the season with Rasmus and take stock if he can’t improve on last year

I questioned this when the hype was £80-100m last year. He was being used for the last 5-10 mins in games back then and couldn't understand the hype.

loan makes sense, get him at a lower level so he can bang in some goals and get his confidence back

he had a pretty bad injury as well so this dip in form is hardly surprising for a young player

I haven't watched him that much but he's got something about him, i wouldn't write him off just yet

He looks like the type of player that needs regular game time with him as the focal point of the attack to build up his fitness and confidence. If he's going from a few minutes here and there with Brighton to a few minutes here and there with United, it's not really gonna benefit him or us.

His development has been severely hampered by a series of niggly injuries just as he was looking to become a very good striker.

Theoretically I'm not opposed to a loan move for him but NOT as an alternative to getting a more experienced striker, which we desperately need regardless.

Agree with this.
He was genuinely very good when he first started at Brighton and that skill is probably there somewhere.
We definitely aren’t the place for him to develop that and then send him back though.
Hope he gets it back together, if he can stay fit and get some minutes somewhere I think he’ll end up being very good.

He looked so good at one point, wonder what the hell happened.

Should we take him on loan?
He got injured. He's looked very good the past month after a slow recovery, big difference between last month and this month for example for Ireland. Last month for Ireland he looked a bit clumsy and slow, short of confidence. The last few games he looked lively and back to his best from last year, scored a nice goal and was generally threatening.

He only just turned 20, so he can still hit the heights. I think he would be a smart loan move. Not for United, because we can't afford another young striker, but someone like Fulham or Leicester.

I think he's very talented and expect him to become very good in time when he learns the tricks of the trade. Injuries have badly affected him in the last season and a half but before then he looked like he could become anything - good finisher and a player that always looks like he has time on the ball despite a lack of top end speed/quickness.

I reckon he should finish the season in the championship, rack up a good tally of goals and go into next season confident. People overrated him last year and so its funny to see people totally writing him off despite being only just turning 20.

Young CF who had a small hot run and got hype well above his actual level at the time. Injuries stalled some development. It's not smooth sailing for young players to actually develop into top players and takes time. Always risky to spend big on young players after 1 hot season.

This place loves to write young players completely off. It's bizarre.
